A few weekends ago, I watched "An Education" starring Carey Mulligan. It's a movie about a 16 or 17 year old girl in London that falls in love with an man in his early (or mid) 30s. She seems to love all things French, which her parents (or at least her father) disapproves. She believes that her current life is very boring and is pressured into getting into Oxford because that's one way she can escape her currently very boring life and also because she wants to read English (or was it teach English?). Well the older man comes along and sweeps her off her feet and she falls head of heels in love with him. He plays his charms on her parents to let her stay out past curfew, go on weekend trips to visit Oxford, Paris, etc. He takes her to the opera, dancing, and fancy dinners. He basically shows her the glamorous life, all which she believes she can have right now with this older man. She starts to question the importance of education, going to Oxford, etc. Of course, in the end, there is something very twisted about the charming older man she had fallen in love with. She gets kicked out of school and jeopardizes her chances of getting accepted to Oxford. All in all everything turns out okay and has somewhat of a happy ending.

When I first saw the previews for this movie, I thought it was going to be a lot of romance, drama, etc. Overall, the movie was very...calm, but interesting. The way the characters spoke was very witty, a little Gilmore Girl-ish but with a British accent. I really like Carey Mulligan. She kinda reminds me of Audrey Tautou.

Anyways, if you have time, you should definitely go check this movie out.

I learned about CM from PBS's Bleak House. She played a giggling fool in the Hollywood Pride & Prejudice - waste but one has to work. I need to rent this.
