The story goes way back in 2006, where they did covers of mandarin songs punctuated with punk rock. With the growing local Chinese indie scene, they wanted more…they wanted something to call their own. The urge to create their own identity spurred them to emerge from conformity and plunge into their world of song writing creativity.
Over the years, Redpoll has experienced some changes in band line-up, recently with the addition of a vocalist & keyboardist (lucky for them these two are girls). Although their vision still remains the same, their musical direction has changed from guitar driven aggressiveness to a more complex lush instrumentation of music.
Even if you have heard of us, do let us make a formal introduction - we are a six piece mandarin folk rock band. With our unassuming ways, we communicate our identity through our songs like Redpolls do.
Our lyrics revolve around the reality of urban life, human interaction and communication; simple, honest emotions that we all relate to.
We draw our musical influences from a spectrum of genres spanning from the last century. The essence of our style comes from the early century blues & jazz, electric folk psychedelic of the sixties, golden classic pop melody of the 70's to modern alternative music. The eclectic mix of old and new sounds makes our music alternative yet at the same time radio-friendly.
As our musical style evolves, we bring you one brand, one unique sound, one uncommon band for all.
