Ng Family Chinese Martial Arts Association

Instructors Brief Biography

Sifu Philip Ng /

Philip Ng immigrated to America from his native Hong Kong at the age of seven.  Upon arriving in the United States he began his scholarship of the martial arts with Hung Gar and Choy Lay Fut under the supervision of both his father and uncle.  At the age of 13, Philip Ng began his study of Ving Tsun Gung Fu with his uncle Alan Ang and Tae Kwon Do with Master Woon S. Shim.  To further his education in the field of Ving Tsun Gung Fu, Philip Ng traveled to Hong Kong and become the student of the great Sifu Wong Shun Leung.  He traveled and trained tirelessly with Sifu Wong until his untimely passing early in 1997.  Before his untimely passing, Sifu Wong Shun Leung encouraged Philip to begin instructing students in America to become training partners.  Thus, Philip Ng initiated the Illini Ving Tsun Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Sifu Philip Ng spent five years presiding over the association as both the head instructor and club president.  Time spent at the University had not only awarded Philip a masters degree in education, but training and sparring with other martial stylists gained him the knowledge and applicable skill in the arts of jujitsu, western boxing, and escrima.

In his efforts to promote the Chinese martial arts, Sifu Philip Ng has written articles for various national and international martial arts periodicals. In addition to serving as an official for numerous national and international martial arts competitions, Sifu Philip Ng also coordinates and partakes in numerous public performances.

Philip Ng currently resides in Hong Kong where he is a working as an actor and martial arts choreographer. Having been in Hong Kong thus far have landed Philip Ng with a very fortunate stream of successes; a lead on a television series, spokes-model for a high class international clothier's line of martial arts attire, supporting roles in a stable flow of both major and minor film productions, and martial arts choreography for award-nominated martial arts films.7歳の時、出身地の香港からアメリカに移住。

Phil started his Wu shu history at age 7.

Age 7... What had I done at that day? ... a second grader of elementary school...

I had been up to my tricks a lots and everyday my dad piled into me...been in a big fight against nearby children(like a war make-believe play), jumped into the sea from top of dike, den make-believe play in a mountain... (yes, I WAS a wild child... not now!)...I had done many nuts things...

Awfully distinction!

By the way...

What is difference between "師父" and "師傅" ??? Both of pronunciations are "sifu"? they have same meaning? How can I distinguish "師父" and "師傅" ?

Could someone tell me that, please... (reliance upon another...)
