Last month while I was in San Francisco jurying the Lesbian & Gay Film Festival up there, I had the opportunity to watch Sam Zalutsky's excellent first feature You Belong To Me. It was on the top of my list after watching 16 features in one week, but somehow we ended up giving the award to another more "festival" film.

A suspenseful and haunting thriller set in New York City, You Belong To Me concerns a young gay architect who moves into the apartment building of a guy that he is obsessed with and gets way more than what he has bargained for. The performances are flawless and the film is compelling from the first frame until the last. What I'm particularly impressed with is that the film works both as a genre film and a gay film.

    Highly recommended and memorable.

I certainly hope more film festivals will program it and more people can check it out. It will screen this coming Monday at Los Angeles' Outfest.

You can also visit the filmmaker's myspace site for pictures, trailers & clips:
