Woo hoo! My first ever blog! Lets see how this goes!

So today was the closing ceremony for the Beijing '08 Olympics, which for the last 16 days kept the world on its toes and brought China into superpower limelight. An amazing achievement of 51 golds put China top of the medal list, although the Americans have their own little list!
I thought the event as a whole put original opinions of the east to rest, with the Tibet issue cast aside for majority of the games. Pollution issues were also helped by very good weather (can't say the same about here in the UK), and although there were a few disapprovals at judging decisions( noticeably the Cuban Tae Kwon Do entrant attacking th referee!) the games ran smoothly.
The opening and closing ceremony were spectacular, with the hosts demonstrating their power with the help of hundreds of acrobats and a vast amount of fireworks. Can't really say the same about the 8 minute hand over the Great Britain! Although i think Olympics 2012 over here will help the country and deprived areas a lot.
I am disappointed however!
I missed the closing ceremony (thankfully it was taped) because of a Chinese carnival organised by TVB which took place at Brent Cross shopping centre today! The weather didn't help, turning cold and hot in seconds, and when it was hot, it was HOT. Events on the main stage included performances from several Chinese celebrities although i did not know who any of them were. Fala Chen showed us her ballroom dancing skills and also performances from other artists and dancers.
We were also treated to several hip hop dancers, although the girls did not do the guys justice, to be honest it looked as though they had thought up the routine 10 minutes or so beforehand.
There were also loads of carnival game stalls like the hammer game (i got a prize! woo hoo), and knocking down the tin cans LoL. Basically was pretty boring and tiring, i did not enjoy it.
I did see a lot of people i knew so it was good to see familiar faces after a long year at university.
In other news i can't believe i'm being skanked by my rents at uni! I haven't even lived there yet and they've already charged me 700 odd quid! What a rip! I guess all flats do that, have year long contracts even when uni is only 8 or so months a year. Also bought a 32inch wide screen TV for the living room so im pretty low in the cash department right now - Might not go to the famous Notting Hill Carnival tomorrow then.
