another year for our event!!

It seems in these days of economic crisis and dwindling resources, trivial stuff like toys, hobbies and games would be the furthest thing from people’s minds. But apparently, hobbyists and collectors remain unfazed by this downturn and instead stay steady in anticipation for the next big thing in the pop culture landscape to turn collectible. They don’t have much long to wait, as the biggest event in pop culture, sci-fi/fantasy and mass media touches down in June with an explosive impact!

The 8th Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention 2009 hits hard with the most anticipated gathering of toy distributors, gamers, pop memorabilia collectors and cosplay enthusiasts this side of the planet. This year's TOYCON will take place on June 13 and 14, at the SM Megatrade Hall 2 and 3 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Highlight for the event this year will be the launch of summer movie blockbusters, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the much awaited GI JOE: Rise of Cobra. Transformers and GI Joe fans will revel in these two famous toy properties with a collectors’ exhibit and movie merchandising displays from the movie’s distributor, Solar-UIP films.

Another exciting highlight for the event is the presence of MINDstyle, an international design company that focuses on delivering unique and original works to a very exclusive market by way of quality limited collectibles. They pioneered the vinyl toy design world with such artists as Michael Lau, Kathie Olivas, Brant Peters, Ron English and Buff Monster. MINDstyle will bring in two internationally renowned toy designers: Tim Tsui, one of the hottest Hong Kong figure artist illustrators. He has exhibited his works word wide designing everything from sneakers to toys to comics. And TobyHK, MINDstyle’s creative director whose works range from graphics, illustrations, web designs, characters or vinyl figures.

TOYCON will host the Philippine leg of MINDstyle and Disney’s Stitch Experiment 626 Project Custom Art Tour, a fresh look at the beloved Disney character through the eyes of some of today’s brightest artists in the vinyl toy design field. The tour will feature hand-customized, one-of-a kind versions of a special DIY blank Stitch created expressly for the Philippine TOYCON.

Another amazing exhibit to watch out for will be ABS-CBN’s Isang Lakas lifesize statues of Mars Ravelo’s creations like Lastikman, Kapitan Boom,Varga, TinyTony, Dragonna, and Flash Bomba.

TOYCON wouldn’t be complete without the annual Live Action Figure Cosplay competition, the biggest gathering of all, sci-fi/fantasy, comics and anime-inspired costume players in the Philippines. And of course the main draw for collectors is the huge retailer floor where they can hunt for the rarest and latest, most sought-after collectors’ pieces ranging from action figures, dolls, diecast cars and robots, comics and cards, artwork and pop memorabilia from all over the world.

The 8th Philippine TOYCON is sure to be the pinnacle of this year’s pop culture conventions. It will certainly have everything there for young and old alike to share and enjoy.

all of them will be there to channel a big shout to our youth audience about human trafficking and exploitation prevention. This is a big kick off concert event that will be followed by a nationwide campaign, that will happen in most regions and islands of the Philippines.

MTV Exit stands for (End Exploitation and Trafficking) is produced by the MTV Europe Foundation in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The event will be hosted by MTV VJ Kat Alano and actor, Epi Quizon. Baustista narrated the anti-trafficking documentary “TRAFFIC: An MTV EXIT Special” and is the MTV EXIT campaign’s ambassador in the Philippines.

To support the concert and the campaign, a group of anti-trafficking organizations headed by the Visayan Forum Foundation will march from Roxas Boulevard to the concert grounds. The march will begin at 2 p.m. and reach the Mall of Asia shortly before the 6 p.m. concert begins. Approximately 5,000 people are expected to take part. These groups will disseminate important information about human trafficking and its prevention to concert

The UN estimates that at any one time there are 2.5 million trafficking victims in the world, with the majority of these in the Asia/Pacific. Human trafficking is the second-largest illegal trade after drugs, with criminal traffickers earning over US$10 billion every year through the buying and selling of human beings. Victims are often young men and women — MTV’s demographic — who are guilty only of wanting a better life.

“I am incredibly proud to perform at this important concert,” Christian Bautista said. “I hope that through my music and involvement in this event and the MTV EXIT campaign that millions of people learn about this tragic form of slavery.”

“The power and influence of music is a great force for change — by holding this concert tour across the Philippines we are harnessing this power; using it to inform and mobilize young people in the fight against trafficking,” said Simon Goff, MTV EXIT’s Director.

The concert will be broadcast on MTV Philippines and will include live footage as well as key information about human trafficking. All MTV EXIT television programming is produced rights-free and free of charge for all broadcasters and organizations.

below are some photos from the press con, we should really be supporting this advocacy, for a personal point of view, human trafficking should be stopped, I'm hearing lots of bad news of this illegal activity that is happening mostly in our provinces, and I don't want this to happen to my family or to my friends. Let's end this and show these traffickers that we are now on the move to fight them.

Fudge Magazine just organized a Twilight soundtrack launch party in Glorietta 3 Park then, and as usually, my Saturday is not good and got stuck in the traffic again, arriving late and just got in time to see and watch Urban dub's live performance, lots of Twilight fans stayed till the end of the event, and more of the participants are females, and I can still count the male fans from my fingers, booths were placed inside the tent like the Olympus booth, Pony, Levis, Red ice tea and Fudge Magazine. The sountrack was sold in the venue, and it is one of your ticket in order to enter the party. They also gave away giant Twilight movie character posters like Edward and Bella, they awarded these posters to the best dressed and costume of Twilight characters, I heard that they have two models who posed as Edward and Bella, and too bad that I missed it, they say that it is a look a like version and I know people will get crazy if the real actors are in there. But I will post a pic here soon after I got photos from my friends at Fudge. Thanks to Ana Gan for inviting me, and glad that I didn't fail and nice to talk to the Olympus camera club member Sandro.

I just hang out with my friend MayZ, we met at the party with his friend Jaycee, and we ate in Reyes BBQ chicken, then while we chat and eat we listen to the soundtrack played from my laptop. hmm..sayang sana pala na press ko na yung rip CD para na copy ko na sya hahaha, then after a short minutes, Mark Cerbo appeared and joined the fun, and scored a Sony expo bath towel from one of his event swags ahhhaha.

zero points for me for haven't watch the film, and still curse the movie Quarantine and the traffic jam last Saturday. I should watch the film before another film hit theaters this week.

This is my 1st production note for an upcoming event, and its a event for toys and collectibles, this event was also dubbed as The Christmas Toy Con, the only fair+bazaar+festival for toys and collectibles during the Christmas season. The best grab for your collection, gifts for love ones will be available here hehehehe.



I got late in to update everyone about this event, and the photos and video above is from November 2008, during our meeting in Megatrade Hall Conference Center, and I got surprised to see the new interiors of the room and it kinda look like I'm in SMX.

The event will be inside the Manila Toys and Gift Show in Megatrade Hall 2, the small portion of the hall will be the venue for the Christmas Toy Con, while big activities like games, cosplay and performance will be in the stage area of the Manila Toys and Gift Show. The Christmas Toy Con has an entrance fee of P30, while the Manila Toys and Gift show is free admission to everyone.

The Manila Toys and Gift Show will be on December 16-21, 2008, while the Christmas Toy Con is on December 19-21, 2008 inside Megatrade Hall 2, located at the 5th level of Mega B, SM Megamall.
