  • a few days in the life of yours truly...

    Sunday, Nov 9, 2008 4:36PM / Standard Entry

Thank you everyone for the love and patience, it’s been pretty hectic around here. But if hectic means working, and working means paycheck, and paycheck means Gears of War 2, then being hectic sure is good.

In addition to the non-stop statically-progressive background preparation for a certain upcoming project, I have also been occupied with a few outside endeavors as well.  I’ll let the following images and words acquaint everyone with the current happenings in the life of yours truly.

    Nike Sportswear Store Grand Opening

A press-photo of me and my super-friends at the Nike Sportswear Store Grand Opening celebration.

A photograph of us after the Onimal and I found and ravaged the open bar...

    Miss Asia 2008

A press-photo of our attendance at the 2008 Miss Asia pageant to support V.Dubb’s little sister who’s competing this year.

(left 2 rite) Daphinator, Gabster, V.Mommy, V. Dubb, and Yours Truly.

There’s Van’s little sis, standing on stage.  Last time I saw her she was only a few feet tall, now she’s taller than me with heels on.

After the show, we left the TV station with this paparazzi car tailing us all the way back to the Hotel Philafornia.  They even drove into the residential parking lot to point a handy-cam in our direction as we exited our vehicle.

Here, I'll save the paparazzi the trouble of fabricating a story.  This is exactly what happened after we entered the building. Van gave me a book that he wrote (I think it's about some guy named Vanness Wu), then we watched several episodes of  "Married With Children" before we all decided to take a nap. We woke up a short time later and headed out to dinner.  Very news-worthy indeed.

A New Cure For Momentary Insanity

This particular issue of "Beauty Pro" drove Sammy to the brink.  Since I still need his wits intact for my upcoming project, I decide to save his sanity.

Faster than Billy Batson can utter the word "SHAZAM", putting on the Ng Family Chinese Martial Arts tee-shirt immediately punted Sammy's mind back to reality.

Having discovered Sammy's new found tee-shirt-given-ability to repeatedly execute the Dempsey Roll, the Onimal found it fit to challenge Sammy to a friendly sparring match that wasn't so friendly to my living room...

    Philip Ng x jhde

I was recently asked to model some clothes for my good friend, Bill Tam (who just so happens to be the designer behind jhde).  I was very happy to lend my support. The following are a few of the pictures we took for this endeavor (photographs by Zion photography).  Check out my album for more pictures from this photoshoot.

Somebody To Love (and to kick in the face)

Just wrapped on an independent-romantic-kungfu-comedic-film (tentatively titled, "Somebody To Love") by the up and coming Irish director Seamus Walsh.  Working on this film had me engulfed by the professionalism I had come to expect from having work on larger-scale projects, while simultaneously, the independent nature of this production gave the cast and crew very little restriction to create freely.

It was a tough shoot, but it was one of the most enjoyable projects that I had been involved with in quite a while.  Seamus came up with a very clever scrīpt that drove the action quite well, and his unique sense of humor shines through in his direction.  Our award-winning DP, Henry Chung pointed his new RED camera in all the right places and the image on the screen is pretty awesome.  The fight sequences were placed together very well by action-director, Jude Poyer (who has done quite a bit of stunt work in Hong Kong before relocating to England a few years back, and is quite a capable fight-choreographer in his own right).  Every single cast and crew member involved with this project was there because they wanted to be and everyone offered their professionalism and expertise without reservation.

Once again, thanks for all the love and support!  In the meantime, I'll be busy fighting off the Locust Horde for next couple of days ;)

    Until next time!

  • September 16, 2008 in words and pictures...

    Thursday, Sep 18, 2008 4:05AM / Standard Entry

Though my birthday is on the 16th, my dear friends decided to start the celebrations a couple of days early and threw me a much appreciated and merry get-together on the Sunday before.

    "only twenty more to go..."

It was only after looking at this photo that I finally realized that our friend Raffi is a Terminator (a Cyberdyne Systems Series 800 Model 102, I think...)

Professional singers in every corner of the room!!!

Notice Raffi attempting to hide his glowing Terminator eyes with his "seeing glasses"...

The awesome thing about having professional singers as your buddies is that during your birthday party (that happens to take place at a karaoke) you can force them to sing their own songs for your own personal amusement.  It’s a like a free concert.  Example one - 2R

    Example two - Alive

"Oh my gosh!  Aren't you the guy from that Wing Chun television series?"

Nic cheated, he had the distinctive advantage of having a "Bruce Lee" track-top on.

Getting my picture taken with my favorite two-sister-girl-band...

Absolutely no caption needed for this one.

Singing makes Race feel strong (kinda like how anger makes Bruce Banner turn green and muscular...)

Though their work schedules prevented my brothers Andy and Van from attending the party physically, the magic of modern karaoke technology was easily able to create both a virtual Onimal and a virtual V.Dubb to sing me familiar songs...

Then on the 16th, my super-duper awesome supporters and good friends threw me a party and spoiled me with awesome gifts.  A big thank you to Michelle for setting this up!  (Gobi was unfortunately unable to attend the merry-making event on the previous Sunday but he was kind enough to show up on this day to give me a car for my birthday!)

And what a coincidence! My old pal Ella was doing a photo-shoot/interview at the same restaurant that Michelle picked for my afternoon birthday party

I'm a nerd and my parents know it.  Look at some of the stuff they sent me to commemorate my birth.  I've got some much anticipated reading and watching to do this week.

    A Big Thank You

A big thank you to all of my awesome friends who arranged and attended these two wonderfully memorable birthday celebrations for me this week.  I’ve had some pretty memorably happy birthdays in the years that I have been on God’s green earth, but this is one of the best birthdays that I can remember having in a long while (sure beats playing WoW alone in my house like I did last year, lol!)

Also, a super big thank you is due to all of the kind people (you know who you are) who left me a happy birthday message in my guestbook, forum, or even in your own blogs.  I read and appreciate every single message.

  • a Dior function, a robot, and super-powered t-shirts...

    A Dior Superstar

A couple of days ago, I was invited by Race and Rozy to a Dior function that featured our friendly-neighborhood Race-a-roni as one of the poster-girls for their new cosmetics campaign.

    Standing for press photos…

    Press photo...

My super-duper-star-sister from another mister, Race-a-roni, takes center-stage...

Being a member of a soon-to-be-famous boy band has its advantages.  Now I finally understand what it feels like to be in a rap video.

What the heck?  I was just mentioning that Race looked better in pictures...

My Personal Toy Story - Kotetsushin Jeeg: The Politest Robot I’ve Ever Met

Last week, Bandai released their Soul of Chogokin verion of Kotetsushin Jeeg (the successor of one of my all time favorite Go Nagai creations, Kotetsu Jeeg).  I had already missed out on the Bandai’s re-release of the Soul of Chogokin God Mars (these figures are released limitedly in Hong Kong, and I was out of town working when God Mars was available), so I made sure I got my Jeeg the very first day it arrived in stores.  The thing that surprised me most about my new chogokin buddy was not in the amount of fine detail imbued upon his figure but how incredibly polite he was when I popped him out of his box.

    True happiness...

Was it my imagination or is this the most well-mannered robot I’ve ever met?

    Superfriends

As illustrated in my previous entries, putting on an Ng Family Chinese Martial Arts Association T-shirt will give the wearer incredible (and sometimes dangerous) powers. Last week we happily acquired a new member into our Superfriends team.

This t-shirt pretty much gave Nic the ability of nigh-invulnerability.  By the way, please notice the hat he's wearing. That’s as much proof as I can give (without violating any privacy laws), so don't ask me if that is the real Nicholas Tse on alivenotdead.com ever again.

    Lesson of the Day

If everyone would treat each other with the same kindness and respect that Kotetsushin Jeeg had treated me with, then the world would be a step closer to heaven.
