  • What's shakin'?

Went shopping the other day. Wandered into a kitchen gadgets store. While caressing a plethora of gadgets I think my kitchen should house, I couldn't help but to also touch the many varieties of salt and pepper shakers.

These guys come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

Some are whimsical and cute, like the ones shaped like foods or cartoon characters (Garfield and his dog, Betty Boop, Tinkerbell).

I saw a few odd ones shaped like screws and cigarettes in an ashtray.

The ones that resemble well-known structures, e.g. Empire State building, Eiffel Tower, got my fancy.

Just so many to marvel at. The cooing was getting out of hand.

I was tempted to get a new set of shakers to replace my utilitarian ones at home. Then I thought better of it because I rather still like my simple glass shakers. They're so unassuming and sort of nostalgic. So clean (institutional and boring even), I'd never get tired of its look.

These are my fancier shakers. They're technically grinders but the end-product is the same....

Oh! An idea for your next blog:

Show your salt and pepper shakers. I'm sure somebody's got a really groovy set at home.

Haha mine cost $1. What I like about them is the hunter green plastic top. I have wooden grinders too. I like black pepper ground & I like sea salt too.

I prefer to grind my own salt and pepper- the action itself is very satisfying!

You make cooking sound almost sexual there. =P

Strangely I lust over kitchen gadgets too, I want one of those Kitchenaid mixers but they seem a bit pricey for what they do.

I have a couple of these but I don't use them for salt and pepper...they're for cookie baking.  One contains sugar and the other contains a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.

lol, I love kitchen gadgets, always have my eye on any kitchen department. Sadly I only own a supermarket salt shaker, used to have coca cola shaped ones. Personally I like the plain nostalgia ones you have too, clean lines.

Now that you mention it, there are many varieties.  I feel like I've seen ones in some naughty shapes somewhere before too.  I'll try to take some pics of mine.

I have the stainless steel ones, similar to your "fancier shakers." There's a restaurant near work called the "Manhattan" and it's got the Empire and Chrysler building S&P shakers. Super cute! LOL - I can totally see myself splurge on these.
