Let me introduce you to a few neighbors of mine.

These guys have been loitering around the corner for weeks. Not sure where their home is and I thought they would prefer to be near the more open areas like by the public park or by the expanses of natural vegetation down, way dowwwn, the road.
I used to see them as I drove or walked by a private property where horses were kept. I believe the greens surrounding the tennis and swim club across the street from the horses is their territory. They must have grown tired of waiting around for the horse-caretaker to drop off those Chips Ahoy! chocolate chip cookies, or had already received their crumbs, and decided to find some fun elsewhere.
I guess being a wild turkey, there's nothing to do but roam all day.
Lately I've been passing them by down the street as they hung around the front lawn of a certain house. If I were that homeowner, I wouldn't be pleased about these large birds dawdling on my property. They leave such the mess on the ground!
One day they decided to stroll up my street. I went to get a closer look. Also wanted to make sure they weren't going to stick around my property for long. I hadn't meant to corral them at my neighbor's house but that's what occurred as I approached to take snapshots.
One of the main differences between free-roaming turkeys and commercially-grown turkeys are their girth (and composition? heehee). My turkeys do seem to be quite lean. We all know those creatures that end up being our Butterballs are plumped up with who-knows-what.
I got my snapshot and they continued up the street. My street's a dead-end. They probably jumped the fences and continued their roaming on the mountain and eventually back to where they call home.
I also have human neighbors I'd call "turkeys" but that's beyond the scope of this blog entry.
