I did go celebrate a couple of birthdays with my in-laws and mother 2 weekends ago. Their treat!

It was still early for dinner so we visited the zoo that is Target Greatland at Serramonte.

It's odd how Serramonte shopping center in Daly City has Greatland while a half-mile away down the street, across the Daly City/Colma border there's - tada! - a regular Target. There aren't enough Target-like stores to keep everyone happy, especially on busy weekends.

There was really a sea of black heads!

The place was packed and cart-to-cart. Ick! I usually like to take care of such shopping errands in the mornings when everyone is still in the PJs and having their breakfasts.

Picked up a small microwave oven for the in-laws. They'd been bugging us about getting a new one for a while. It barely fit in my capacity-filled SUV. FIL had to sit with the oven & box atop his lap. lol. Somebody else was stuck with an 8-pack of Brawny paper towels on her lap. She was sweet about it.

Over at Koi Palace restaurant, the sifu was out in the lobby making his Dragon Beard candy again. This is the first I've seen on how he starts it out. He starts with a big gob (about a pound's worth) of honey! Then he stretches and pulls and folds in the rice flour. At the end, when he's got a hand-ful of thin, white strands that resemble a dragon's beard (and we know what that looks like ), he folds in some crushed peanuts with sugar. It's really chewy stuff.

The honey being stretched and will eventually turn to white color.

This is what the completed candy looks like. Kinda reminds me of a cocoon of a silk worm.

Everyone's favorite - siu long bau!

I used to watch this guy in the streets of chinatown who'd make the dragon beard candy and it attracted a huge crowd.

Interesting to see how it is made. I really liked it, but for some reason the store clerks was laughing, picking up the box, looking at me and then laughing, which really worried me, but they tasted great.!

No kidding about the sea of dark hair! Doesn't anyone go grey out there lol. Gosh, 24 checkout lines & counting. That's a huge store!

I'm always learning new things when I come here. Interesting to hear how the Dragon Candy is made.
