Took to the streets for some free entertainment. It was the annual Independence Day parade in my city. For the last few years there's always been a contingent representing the fam at one of these parades while I've occasionally skipped out on the fun. Every year the parade is held in a different district (there are 5) which is kind of nice for a change in scenery. Brings people out to districts they may not otherwise visit or patronize.

It's no surprise the number of parade participants this year has somewhat lessened from previous years. I hear next year's will be an even smaller 'party.' Still, the parade lasted about 1.5 hours. My legs while standing in the shade were getting quite sore.

The great thing about this year's locale was there was plenty of free parking as the parade's path was lined with industrial buildings and their empty parking lots this Saturday a.m. Plus, lots of mature, shady trees! AND, we were very close to a big Chinese strip mall and some yummy noodles for our empty stomachs.

There were school bands, boys scouts, gymnastic schools, a swim school, local politicians, civic organizations, cultural groups, a bank, police, firefighters, Ford Mustang owners, and so forth. I'll share a few choice shots. First up, the (noisy) Harleys...

I liked this high school's sneaker. It was flanked by the what must've been the cheerleading squad but they sort of flaked out when I took this pic. j/k

The best music was provided by this drum and pipes group.

I thought this was so cute. These little guys participated in the parade asleep in their comfy wagon.

3 floating stars - red, white and blue back there somewhere.

A couple of representatives from the Oakland Raiders' Raiderettes.

The Pirates of Emerson ship along with many actors in costume. They show up in the parade every year and operate an elaborate haunted adventure setup in an empty field every Fall. Have not gone to it yet.

    Lop-sided eagle.

    Low-rider with crazy hydraulics.

Quite a few antique cars make appearances:

Although I spent the rest of the day in SF, by nightfall I was home and from my bedroom could observe many fireworks displays along the peninsula.
