It was someone's birthday and I tried my hand again at making the birthday cake.

I don't have a favorite cake recipe. I like to browse the internet. I love the internet!

Here's the batter with lots of butter, eggs, sugar and flour.

I thought it was going to overflow in the oven. Whew! Glad it didn't. I do so dislike oven messes.

Cooled down and split for the filling. I used fruit cocktail for the filling.

The finished product. I think I should find out how to make those clear glazes to shine up the fruits. Maybe next time. Maybe not.

This is my most fancy and thought-out cake decoration yet. The cake is rich and tasty. And big! With all that butter and eggs, it's gotta be good.

Wish I could share but I fear (as always whenever I bake) I may have to eat most of it myself.

nice cake... i'm attending baking class now & am working in a company selling ingredients - i understand now the arts of baking. ha ha ha! Only people with passion will enjoy baking. I always sleep during the theory session but I enjoy doing the practical.

Oh, man! I've practically eaten 1/2 of this thing myself! Argh. It tastes so good. Why doesn't anyone else in this house agree strongly and just dive in? haha.

it'll overflow!?!?!? god i didn't know that! the topping looks fantastic!!! after trying my hands in cupcakes, decorating after baking is kinda tedious isn't it! lol!!!
is that chocolate powder sprinkled over the icing?

lot of the cakes and tarts that i eat with the fruit on top are covered in clear, plain gelatin, sometimes lightly sweetened, sometimes not.

Wow, that's impressive. I can bake a sponge cake but I'm a disaster at prettying it up. I know a lot use an apricot glaze on fruits but I've never attempted it

Oh wow, that looks magnificent! It didn't look like much to begin with but you made it so scrumptuous :D I love baking too- it's very therapeutic and yummy for the tummy at the same time.
