  • Me and Mel Gibson ?!!!

    Friday, Dec 7, 2007 2:43AM / Standard Entry

    Ha Ha!  Got you!

This "Mel" is a statue at the Madame Tussauds

Wax Museum that I took my parents and their friends

    to visit today.

Hey, I also bumped into "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" there!

I just could not refuse to take a photo with "Eddie" since

    he was so sincere… (Ha!)

Mum and dad with "Michelle Yeoh".

Mum and dad with "President Bush".

My daddy with "China's General Secretary

    Hu Jintao"

My daddy with "China's Premier Wen Jiabao"

My mum is trying to prevent "Andy Lau" from deleting

Chan Wing's Yan's file from the Police record!  Remember

that scene in the movie "Infernal Affairs"?

My "gugu" (auntie) thinks that "Michael Jackson"

    is quite cool.

Look!  Pablo Picasso is also there!

    And Albert Einstein as well!

Mum and dad could not wait to check on the photographs

    that they took.

The raw tuna salad and roast lamb at Cafe Deco was quite good!

It was fun to act like tourists today.  My daddy even bought

2x panoramic shots of the Hong Kong view from the peak.

Our walk on the peak had ended here when we began

to take a slow journey down the hill by bus!  On my way back,

I was thanking my Heavenly Dad for having looked after

all of us for the day and for the past year....

  • Winning the MTV Asia music video competition!

    Thursday, Nov 29, 2007 10:53PM / Standard Entry

Thanks to my Heavenly Daddy, I was lucky enough to win the MTV Asia competition as they were looking for the best video to accompany the track titled "I'm Proud To Be Chinese" sung by one of AnD’s artist, Scott Hui!

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-71ti3Psdc

And because of the accidental appearance of HKSAR’s Ex-Chief Secretary, Mrs. Anson Chan, in the mv, Scottie’s name as well as my name as the director were also mentioned in all the major international news including the FORBES, WASHINGTON POST, INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUTE, FOX NEWS and possibly a hundred more different world titles…  So, we had both become accidentally “world-famous” for 1 day Subsequent to that, I had done a few more interviews but they have not been published yet.  So, following are some of the questions and my answers for your preview:

    (1)  What does this award mean to you?

Compared to the last video that I made for Project Orbis on Eason’s Sight Ambassador trip to China, I had to make more creative efforts to illustrate the song this time.  There was more planning and pre-production involved and also more visual effects experimented at post production stage.  So, winning the competition and getting this award is certainly a big encouragement to me in my endeavor towards making movies.

    (2)  What advice do you have for people who want to do MV?

I think designing images to illustrate a movie scrīpt is relatively more straight forward as compared to designing images to illustrate a song.  It is because the images in a music video are there to enhance the song, they should not be too strong that they would distract from the song.  In my opinion, there is one other very important element in making mv, that is, you have to allocate certain resources in art direction and styling even though you may not have any budget for it.  Unlike shooting a drama, if the your images in the mv look good, it cannot go too wrong because the story is either told by the song or there is no need to tell any story but to create certain moods instead.  On the contrary, if your mv looks cheap and tacky, the audience would not be attracted to view it.  So, it may aversely affect the popularity of the song!

    (3) Who are the people you want to thank?

I want to thank all the cast and crew involved in the making of this mv especially

Hong Kong actress Farini Chang who has played the classic, modern and futuristic Chinese beauty; Mr. Gordon Liu (who has starred in Kill Bill 1 as Johnny Mo and Kill Bill 2 as Pai Mei) to appear as the Shaolin Monk; former HKSAR Chief Secretary, Ms. Anson Chan for agreeing to sing along to the chorus; Mr. Henry Chung, HKSC, (also an AnD member!) for being the Director of Photography and Cameraman; Universal McCann Hong Kong for allowing me to shoot their candidates while I was hired by them to shoot a presentation video for them and, lastly, my Final Cut Pro teachers at FatBars for their technical guidance and assistance!

    (4) Who do you aspire to be - other than yourself?

If the question only covers film making, the answer is Ang Lee, but if the question is stretched beyond film-making, I’ll aspire to be Mother Theresa.

    (5) What is your next project?

I will continue to make promotional films for clients but will go around to seek funding at the same time for 2 of my feature film projects.  I know it may sound a bit far-fetched, but those are my resolutions for the year 2008!

  • 新、舊朋友們,你們都好嗎?“Hello” to all the old and new friends at AnD!

    Friday, Nov 23, 2007 12:36PM / Standard Entry

It is indeed an honor for me to become a featured artist here.  In fact, I have joined this community back in May, as an ordinary member under the name of “WongWong”, and have since made some wonderful new friends here.

About 3 years ago, I have quitted my long established career in marketing to pursue a more exciting, but also more challenging, new career in film making.  I am now a promotional film producer/writer/director working hard to become a feature film writer/director.  Since I am a “late” beginner in this tough business, I have well accepted that my career journey may be even tougher than the others. But I hope that my “late start” could be seen as an advantage for those film companies that would appreciate my previous working experiences in marketing and in multinational corporations, on top of my current film skills.  The recent MTV Channel Award that I got (see the winning announcement: http://www.p2bchi.com/), hopefully, is a minute step forward to get me closer to my dream of making a feature film!

Thanks again to all the staff, artists and members at AliveNotDead.com.  Not only do you keep me entertained, you also keep me constantly informed and inspired, with all your news and the blogs of so many wonderfully talented people here!  I am truly proud to be part of this “big artist family” and I welcome you all to drop by to say ‘hi’ regularly!

  • "GIVE ME YOUR LOVE AND A NEW HOME!"

    Sunday, Nov 11, 2007 10:16PM / Standard Entry

I am not saying this for myself.  I am saying this on behalf of an abandoned dog!

On last Saturday night (i.e. on Nov 10th, 2007), when I went to Sok Ku Wan of Lamma Island (an outskirt island in Hong Kong) for seafood dinner, I discovered this poor abandoned dog wandering around trying to pick up some leftover food to eat.

Although it was very cute and lovable looking,  I could tell instantly that this was an abandoned dog because its hair was very scruffy and dirty looking, and it was acting very timidly....  People from the neigbourhood stores told me that this dog has been wandering around there for months already and was probably purposely brought to Lammai Island to be dumped there by its former owner so that the dog will not be able to find its way home....

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAUVBRB3fjQ

As you can see in the video, this dog is very tame and seems to understand what I was saying but somehow it also seemed to be very vary of people... It just made me wander if the dog had experienced certain terrible experiences dealing with some people before....

So far, I have written to a few animal welfare organizations in HK, like the SAA, HK Dog Rescue and also the Lamma Animal Protection organization to see if they can help this dog find a new home...  I am putting this video up hoping that as more people get to know about the existence of  this poor dog, it may increase the chance of it getting a new home...

If I don't already have 3 very spoiled dogs constantly fighting for my attention at home, I would definitely have taken him (or her) home already!

  • The Drummer... My Mentor and Best Teacher...

    Saturday, Oct 13, 2007 2:22AM / Standard Entry

About 3 years ago, when I had quitted my senior marketing position to pursue my dream of becoming a film director, I was invited to the premiere of “The Rice Rhapsody” (aka Hainan Chicken Rice) by Ms, Ivy Ling Po, the mother of the director Mr. Kenneth Bi.  Since then I had made different excuses to learn from Kenneth by showing him the various different stories that I had written.

Thanks to the kindness of my Heavenly Dad, Mr. Kenneth Bi had kindly read all of my 4 different stories.  He had also spent time to give me his honest and valuable feedbacks.  He also went to the extent of recommending a list of movies that he thought were relevant for me to see which might be able to help me improve my work.

Regardless of whether I can really make it as a commercial feature film director one day or not, I have always told myself (and I've also told Kenneth the same thing) that I can die a happy woman any time simply because I have had the honor of having him read my stories and also the pleasure of listening to him telling me various beautiful stories, usually, in an open café in Quarry Bay…

I must say that I am so proud to have known Mr. Kenneth Bi. I consider him not just a good friend, but also my mentor and the best teacher in film making that I have...

Whenever I feel frustrated in the pursuit of making feature films, it gives me the drive to carrying on when I look at the 7 years that Ken had spent from conceiving “The Rice Rhapsody” until it was finally made and shown in cinemas and the fact that he had also spent around the same length of time from concept to realization in making the movie of “The Drummer”.

I think "The Drummer" is certainly a movie that not only entertains; it also makes me think.... and think deep about life….I am hoping and have faith that Ken will be the next "Ang Lee" from Asia one day!
