HAPPY NEWS:

My "PROUD TO BE CHINESE" music video would be shown at the Fantasia Film Festival this year! It is the first time in 12 years that this film festival is showing a music video. Although the song is called "Proud To Be Chinese", it was actually written by a Sri Lankan man called Hans Ebert who is an admirer of many Chinese arts and culture. Thanks to him, to Scottie Hui who is the singer of this mv and all the wonderful talents either in front or behind the camera including superstars like Gordon Liu, Farini Chang, award-winning cinematographer Henry Chung and up-and-coming stunt actor, Caspar Keung (WHO ARE ALL AnD ARTISTS!!!!) and everyone else who had worked on this mv. I am proud to be Chinese as much as I am proud of many of my friends who are not Chinese. I hope the audiences at the Fantasia Film Festival would like the mv whether they are Chinese or not Chinese!

Yeah, we've created history together at the Fantasia Film Festival and the icing on the cake is that the screening on July 7th would be presented by GORDON LIU in person !

I lost $10K HAPPILY !

Guess what, I got fooled by the latest viral marketing videos done by Bluetooth headset retailer Cardo Systems which show people appearing to pop popcorn with their cellphones. In fact, I had lost a $10,000 bet to my husband as I thought those videos are real and he had disagreed even before he had seen the videos!

After we've had a chance to see those videos, our whole family (including my brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, niece and nephew) had all participated in the mobile phone popcorn test. Even though it didn't work, all of us had still thought the videos are real and my husband was going to give me $10,000 to honour his bet!

Unfortunately, before the cash had got into my hands, someone had sent us the following truth behind those videos! What a bloody drag! Anyway, the whole family had a lot of fun in the verification process and I am happy to honour my bet to give $10,000 to my husband! More importantly, I feel happy that both my husband and I had learned not to be so overly sefl-assured when are are arguing with one another!

Nevertheless, this has not changed my views about Shyamalan's latest movie, THE HAPPENING as mentioned in my last blog and the fact that there had been real accounts of recent massive die off of bees and birds!

HAPPENING – Is it really happening?

Last night, I went to see M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, HAPPENING, with my husband. Again, Shyamalan did it very well by having a simple but strong concept brilliantly executed! The only thing I didn’t understand too well was the ending; nor was I able to grasp what was the director’s point.

Today, I happened to receive a viral email that shows you how cell phones can fry up pop corns in a matter of seconds. Oh dear! We all use cell phones nowadays. So would our brains be fried up like that too? Take a look:

It is so scary, isn’t it?! But even more “scary” is the article underneath all those video links which talks about the possibility of how Cellphone Popcorn Popping may be related to all the recent Bird Flock Suicides!!

Now that I am more aware of the EMF (Electric and Magnetic Fields) effects around us, it has made me appreciate the film and Shyamalan’s points a lot more! Yes, the HAPPENING is already happening to the birds and bees.

If we humans still keep on damaging the planet earth, one day it may also happen to us too. Furthermore, as a Christian, I can see a lot more INTELLIGENT DESIGN beyond the outwardly ecological cause for the movie. For those critics who can't, I can fully understand their disappointment in the movie's ending and why they will be tearing this movie apart. But as some other critics would say, Shyamalan’s movies are about the journey and not the destination because they are overall entertaining regardless.

In fact, it was another movie that Shyamalan had written/produced and directed in 2002, THE SIGNS, that had given me the motivation to switch my career and become a film director. As Shyamalan's fan, I thank God that he is still so young. I hope he will improve instead of running dry because I look forward to seeing more of his work!

Till Death Do Us Apart? Not for this man!

The man in the above picture is carrying the dead body of his wife as he tries to find a better place to bury her rather than to leave her with the thousands of other dead bodies....

The Sichuan earthquake has truly shaken Heaven and Earth. It has not only caused untold human suffering, but reshaped geographical features in many parts of the province. The quake, measuring 8 on the Richter scale, has razed mountains to the ground, blocked rivers and created temporary lakes from landslides. In Qingchuan, for example, two mountains crashed into each other, wiping out an entire village and creating a lake in its place. Many of these "lakes" and rivers now threaten to burst and flood some of the worst-hit disaster areas. Today, a Chinese government spokesman says the confirmed death toll in this week's massive earthquake has risen to almost 32000 already and is expected to go up to 50,000!

We love you FARINI!

Today, I've watched a musical with our beautiful FARINI in it. What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I had thoroughly enjoyed the entire 3 hours show! It was even more amazing to know that they only had the Thursdays-to-Sundays within 8 weeks for rehearsals. Moreover, 80% of the performers are non-professional performers who are volunteers coming from a vast number of different churches. Regardless, the show had turned out to be awesome, professional, inspiring and entertaining!

As a Christian, we should have a modest attitute to serve our neighbors and our Lord. I really admire Farini's humble attitude and her devoted time and energy in this aspect! It is hard enough for an ordinary person to do so in Hong Kong. It should be even harder for a performing artist. FARINI makes me feel ashamed of myself in this regard. Thanks for being such a good role model for us. We love you FARINI! We will try harder ourselves! Let us keep our eyes fixed on HIM and PRAISE HIM

Patty is a veteran in the Asian media and entertainment business. Over the past 20 years, she has held key positions in many big companies. From the '80s to the '90s, she was working in Ogilvy & Mather, Saatchi & Saatchi and Academy One Films. From 1995 to 1997, Patty was instrumental in the setting up of the Channel Marketing function at Hong Kong Cable Television Limited when she was the Deputy Marketing Controller over there. In the years of 1997 to 2000, Patty joined Time Warner's Turner Entertainment Networks Asia, Inc. as Regional Marketing Director and looked after all the marketing activities for Cartoon Network and TCM in the region as well as helped launch HBO into India. From March 2002 to Oct 2004, Patty joined Celestial Pictures as Group Marketing Director looking after all of the communications and promotional activities for the company's integrated media and merchandise businesses in Asia. She has also been personally involved in the creation and production of numerous T.V. commercials and promotional videos.

Whilst working for Celestial, Patty was inspired by the many classic Shaw film legends that she had the honor to meet in person. This had triggered her interest in writing stories and becoming a film director. In mid-year 2004, Patty decided to quit her job and went to study for a 1-year film-making course (Nov 04 to Sept 05), jointly hosted by the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers and the Hong Kong government.

In 2005, Patty has written her first book "The Close Encounters with the Shaw Film Legends" which was published by Sing Tao Publishing to many parts of the world and has stayed in the No. 1 Rank in "Sing Tao's Top 10 Selling Chart" for many months. The book was also ranked as the No. 10 in the “Best Selling Books in Singapore” by the "Top Culture Index" of Yazhou Zhoukan (Vol. 19 Issue 26).

In 2006, Patty has made her first attempt in directing a dark humor short film "BLACK OUT" and written the original movie concepts of “BEAUTIFUL LEG", “2882”, “CAMAY and HER DOG", “KILL AND RUN” as well as “THE DARK PIANO". During the same time, she has also launched a bi-lingual print and web publication, INWEDDING magazine (now renamed as INMAGAZINE) in the position as contract Managing Editor in only 4 months' time from scratch.

In July 2007, Patty's 3-min trailer of “2882” is selected to be shown at the 11th FANTASIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL in Montreal. In November of the same year, Patty has won the MTV Asia competition as the director and editor for the best video to accompany the track titled "I'm Proud To Be Chinese".

Patty is indeed an energetic person who has the proven track record to create and manage projects of various natures, magnitude and scales. She is a rare gem who not only possess creativity but also the necessary marketing sense and production skills to make a world-class top-notch producer/writer/director, based out of Asia. She now owns her film and promotions company, GIG CREATION Limited (www.gigcreation.com) which offers corporate image and branding services as well as film production services to clients.
