  • My "FIRST" Job in COMICS (Pictures)

    Monday, Dec 29, 2008 5:02PM / Standard Entry

    AnD Folks,

Ok, I just found these pictures floating around on FaceBook and wanted to share them with everyone on AnD. It's funny because I still look the same hahah!! Here are some pictures, unfortunately I only have one of them that I am in but I will take you on a little tour of the studio when I was 17 years old which is about 16 years ago. DOPE!

So, the first job I ever did in comics was Prophet #9, this is the only picture I can find of the cover. I was taking over another penciler for that issue since he was sick and couldn't do it.

    Prophet #9

Here are some pictures of the studio in California. Now that I think of it.. Damn I'm getting old.

This is what we call the BULLPEN, where all the artists work in. When I first got there I got to choose my little corner space which is by that brown looking back wall you see in the middle of the picture. The guy with the pink shirt, he does some of the backgrounds and edits on each page. The guy in the front with baseball cap is Marlo, awesome inker and one of my teachers at that time in inking.

Here is another shot of the BullPen but the other side of it. In front with the glasses is Hyme who is also a really good inker and dear friend back in the day. There was tons of people working there.

Here is a shot of the office of Jonathon and Danny which were my main teachers in inking - these guys have done everything from Spawn, X-Men, Spiderman, Batman and tons more. These guys are some of the best inkers in the comic book business. They can be comic characters themselves as they are both jokers and always cracked people up when they were there around the office

    .

Oops! can't forget Andy and Cedric Nocon, some of the best pencilers there at Extreme at the time -- now they are both doing Art Direction for big motion picture companies I believe. Awesome artists.

AND finally a picture of me speaking to another artist sitting beside me - I think I had just woken up I look totally exhausted haha! This was about 4 months into working as a professional comic artist. Yup, a newbie haha!

:Last but not least - a picture on the "very left" DAN FRAGA - my dear friend and now working on motion picture films in Hollywood as an Art/Creative Director for big films. He brought me into the comic book scene, he let me crash at his place for several months and took great interest in bringing me into the comics. Actually - He brought over 30 artists into the comic scene and many never share there appreciation for what he has done. So - here I salute and continue to send my thanks to Dan Fraga (FragaBoom!) who has helped artists around the world break into the business. You rock solid and wish you continued success brothu!

  • Garage Works Gallery Event - Pictures/Video
     |  )

    Sunday, Dec 21, 2008 5:12AM / Standard Entry

    AnD Friends,

I wanted to first thank you all who came and those who supported the event. It was an incredible turnout and for those that couldn’t come – you can still check out the gallery at Garage Works as it will be there for another 3 weeks.

It was nice to see such a great pool of friends and talent all come together from music, illustrative arts, stage performance artists, actors/actresses, directors and producers and people of art interest to show up at the gallery. What’s most important is that we all support each other in all of our creative interests to bring unique ideas to the Hong Kong scene. We have such a great pool of talent and whether those who are super professional from those who are just starting out – these events are great for everyone to get together to bring concepts and ideas throughout all areas into the creative scene. Anyways, here are some pictures and videos from the gallery:

It got a lil packed before 8pm @_@

uhm.. It got a little more packed after 8:30pm...

No we're not cutting a cake, were making a T-shirt thanks to Ducky!

Here is a shot of the back of the gallery - where whine was being served and more of my artwork displayed.

One of th shoes I designed. It's named after a killer goldfish.

Yup and here is the three amigos.

Hey cool - was nice to se Jin there hangin out.

Jian and Sil looked like superheroes themselves. :)

Here is the DJ for the night - you rocked Arne. ;)

Nice to see my cousin Kev who came to HK on holiday and to see my inker from Toronto - Craig Yeung who was also there.

48 hours later - we all had a mini Christmas dinner before V left town.

AnD here is US - blazing red hot in these super christmas santa hats - too bad they don't glow hardcore, would be nice. haha! Always good to be in good company, with good friends.

Many had shared their thanks and appreciation to bringing this art gallery event, but it’s my thanks to you for all who supported this event, supported others who were there and have the intent and inspiration to bring creative innovation throughout the art culture in Asia.  We all shared, laughed, drank whine and brought creative synergy together and that’s what was mainly worth having such an event.  – so, it’s my thanks to you for bringing that creative interest and synergy to us all.

My special thanks goes out the Vanness Wu who came all the way from Taiwan on his busy schedule to attend the event, what a great supporter for the creative industry and very excited to have him attend. God bless to you brother – Jaycee and Andrew Lien as well as all the other professional talent that came out that night to support.  I would also like to thank Arne for spinning that night – awesome music. Also thank you to all of the news press and magazines who have written articles about the event, you also made this event very special. Let us all continue to collectively make an impact whether it be just Asia or internationally – and keep the vibe flowin.

God Bless and looking forward to seeing you again in another future event.

     |  )

    Saturday, Nov 22, 2008 3:02PM / Standard Entry

    AnD folks,

Yesterday was an incredibly long day - first of all I want to say Happy Birthday to Stephen - Happy birthday man. So yesterday we went to visit the AnD guys and had a mini celebration with Stephen. Don't forget to stop by his page and wish him a Happy Birthday! Here are some pictures from my visit:

    OoooH Nice cake huh?

Go Stephen GO Stephen - Cut that CAKE!!!

NO DON'T KILL IT -- We need to eat it dude!!

Hey -- who is this Ninja appearing out of nowhere -- perhaps StormShadow @_@

Yeaaah! Got a new AnD hat. ;)

After visiting the AnD Crew -- I had to get ready for the HKSPC Event where I painted a BATMAN piece. Here are some pictures of the Auction:

Here is a picture of Lloyd and Chris - and a shot of the pencils for what I'm about to paint.

Here are my tools: Thick Marker, Acrylic Paint and a few selection of different styles of brushes. I didn't use any scrapers for this one -- but brought it just in case.

Yup - those are my paint palettes. :D

I started painting som of the more finer details. OOPS!! Sorry , don't have that many pictures of me actually illustrating it! -- Here is the final!

It was great to raise over $60,000HK for this wonderful event which supports children from underprivelaged families, low in-come families. Thank you all for your wonderful support. I will have more pictures of the event in the very near future. Special thanks to Angelina who set this incredible auction and hope that some of you out there can attend next year's event!  Also like to make a special thanks to Warner Brothers for acting so quickly in getting approval to make this happen. So - I had an incredible Friday and SO much more to come!!

    Peace All!
