  • Sonnet - Remembering you

    Saturday, Jun 14, 2008 7:41AM / Members only

    Another ekphrasis and this time, it's my favourite poetic form - the sonnet.

    Remembering you -

    a poem inspired by the violet sunset at the Strait of Georgia, featured in Dusk Moods

    There was an old adage about true love,

    that every ship will sail yet dock at last,

    and so I chronicled my days out of,

    the sun, the moon, and stars to mark the past.

    And here it was where endless dulcet met,

    I met thee ‘ere above the rocks ashore,

    A night of skies o’ bright and violet,

    believed my heart has found its place amour.

    Befell this dusk I came again to seek,

    the vanished shadows of your love for me,

    wherefore art thou not coming back, bespeak,

    my heart had bled a song of grief at sea.

    Yet time will come when lilac skies loom high,

    A postlude I play I shall say goodbye.

  • Ekphrasis: The Wharf Light

    Friday, May 30, 2008 12:06AM / Members only

    A poem inspired by a wall light captured in Dusk Moods

    The Wharf Light

    Gentle steps back into time

    oblivious to what truth has yet to come;

    Passes by the cottage

    russet and white;

    An unmindful ambiance in the milieu

    notes the number forty;

    in its delicate lines hung above

    where memories of the past linger now and again;

    The wharf light,

    its gleaming brightness unchanged from years bygone;

    Under which he woos his secret love in a song

    until the moon and stars flicker like a candle in the soft wind;

    He hushes and she blushes

    come forth sessions of sweet silence;

    Ubiquitous.

    Gentle steps back to the present

    lucid about the truth;

    A modicum of his heart twinges

    for the moment that will never return.

  • Ekphrasis: You are not mine

    Thursday, May 29, 2008 11:59PM / Members only

    A poem inspired by the gentle ripples of the water in Dusk Moods

    You are not mine

    You are not mine,

    thoughts of you ebb into the ripples of the sea in dim darkness;

    moments of enthralling love

    once as intense as the glowing sun now bleak and forlorn;

    thoughts of you ebb into the ripples of the sea,

    wooden posts forsaken stand solitude in their own shadows

    bid farewell to the tide gone by;

    I stand until the ripples vanish into the horizon

    and darkness veils.

  • Ekphrasis - merging photography and poetry

    Thursday, May 29, 2008 10:29AM / Members only

    Art and poetry have adeptly found their complementary place in ekphrasis since Keats and Rossetti. Not unlike other visual media, photography provides the observer with not just a physical image of the world but the mystical and spiritual rumination that the artist wants to convey. In “Dusk Moods”, I have merged photography with poetry; deriving rhetoric from the images I took at dusk by the water to achieve ekphrasis. Predominantly melancholic, the poems reflect the heart of a man which is at the crossroad of fond memories and the pain of love gone by.

    You've got the best looking camera on the site. :) As I'm currently in Beijing and my studio is still in Shenzhen, I don't have the exact details, but it is something like this: probably around 10-15mm (actual 20mm or so), F10 at 15 seconds. Those are all guesses though. When the shipment arrives, I'll try to look up the details for you. Hm, it should actually be in the meta data on the image unless the compression messed it up. Unfortunately, the computer I'm currently using doesn't read meta data. How about yours? What do you like to shoot?
