After 12 years on temptation...we finally opened the first bottle of wine that Amy and I had bought together...on our very first trip to Napa. We went up to Napa with our wine lovin' friends and were totally clueless about wine. I was a total beer...ahem...Lagers and Ales guy. One of our stops was a small little tasting room called Caymus. So, I asked my friends that we wanted to buy a bottle and they suggested...buy Caymus, it's a pretty good wine. So, we threw down $32 for a bottle of 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon....the rest was history...boy, were we hooked...addicted...it opened up a world of fascinating experiences in wine, then food for us...especially me. Whenever I get interested in something, I'd be a fanatic about it and read all I can and learn all I can about the subject, whether it's wine, food/cooking, photography, etc... So, wine was an extremely fun hobby and to this day, it's a passion of mine...I'm no expert...but at least it's great to have some knowledge about it especially at restaurants. So, last couple of weeks, my Torontonian cousins visited (we're the pit stop for their Hawaii trip, plus they graciously brought down 2 btls of Ice Wine-woo hoo!!!). So, a few nights before they left, we had a roast beef dinner, the first ever at our house. This was the perfect occasion to bring out "The One". I was worried that it had peaked and was on the way down...I took it out, check the bottle, cork seepage...it looked good. As a geek, I took out our Riedels for this...ooooo it was good. The wine was perfect after 12 years....14 years since harvested. What a great night!...Nothing like good ol' beef and red wine!!!
This bottle had grapes from 9 different sources! Right after we bought this bottle, this particular wine was rated #8 in Wine Spectator for that year. The next year, Caymus closed their tasting room to appointments only and a regular bottle was over $70 per bottle!!! We got lucky!
Caymus and Riedels - What a combo!!! Yes, these glasses do make a different in how the wine smells and tastes. We brought out a different glass and pour a bit into that glass, everyone tried it and agreed that there was a huge difference.

Caught a glimpse of this interview last night while watching the Basketball games. Nice little exchange about the IOC position with respect to the political affairs in China. Liked the answers given by Jacques where he says that the politics need to be handled by diplomats, not the IOC...further, he added that there are ways to handle things in China and shouting at them to do something in NOT one of them. full interview is to be played on the final day. I want to see it in its entirety.

Here's some more good ol' American media at work for the Olympics. They'll never put it to rest...how sad it is...The U.S. didn't win the Gold Medal count...so, Gold Medals are not at important as Overall Medal count (Ye-ah RR-ight!!!) Next Olympics, let's see what happens when the U.S. doesn't lead in any medal counts...or better, let's see them push that winning the Bronze is THE important standard...or maybe it's the number of country participants...why can't the U.S. see the light that it's not the leader in EVERYTHING!!!
The U.S. team won the overall medal count, with 110.
That surpassed the total from the Barcelona Games, 108, which had been the most-ever won by a U.S. team at a non-boycotted Olympics.
The U.S. gold-medal total, 36, matched the American count from Athens in 2004.
The way Olympic medals work, a medal for a team sport - such as the golds each of the men on the volleyball team was awarded Sunday - counts as just one.
If, instead, the medals awarded to each individual are counted, the totals underscore the American commitment to team sports. They read like this:

Video: I heard this while driving to work this AM on KNBR, an all-sports talk radio station. I generally like these guys, but after hearing this, it left a sour taste...and me losing some respect for these guys...especially Fitz (never listened to his show though).
Set Up: Fitz (Bob Fitzgerald) is covering the Beijing Olympics and reports in on a daily basis...so far, it's been decent...until today...It's the part when he talks about how China is winning Gold medals in sporting events that basically no Americans take part in...what was bad was the Shooting people reference. WTF!!! Who's shooting people??? and He's advocating this $hit!!! I wish there could be some real unbiased journalism for the Olympics...actually for all news!!!
Take a listen and what do you think? Am I over-reacting?
I'm a true San Franciscan. Was born in the same hospital as Bruce Lee. Went the same high school as did O.J. Simpson (yes, he did it, not thrilled about that) Graduated from the same university as did...
