  • RIP Daul Kim

    Friday, Nov 20, 2009 11:07PM / Members only

The following article is from Goldsea. Model Daul Kim was found dead yesterday in her Paris apartment...

A 20-year-old top South Korean model who was a fashion week regular in New York, Milan and Paris has been found hung in her Paris apartment, a police official said Friday.

Daul Kim was found dead Thursday by her boyfriend, who alerted French police, the official said. He declined to be named in accordance with policy.

Paris police were working under the hypothesis that Kim committed suicide, he said.

Kim’s agent, Alessandra Bertoldini of the Next modeling agency, said the model’s mother was arriving in Paris later Friday. She declined to elaborate.

Raised in Seoul and Singapore, Kim modeled in Asia before making her fashion week debut in Paris in 2007, modeling for top brands like Chanel, Dries van Noten and Maison Martin Margiela, among others, her Seoul agency, Esteem, said. She most recently appeared during Seoul fashion week in October.

Known for her thick mane of hair — sometimes dyed blond — and her quirky sensibility, the 5-foot-10 (178-centimeter) model was celebrated for her sense of style. She was featured recently in a commercial for designer Christopher Kane’s line of clothing for British retailer Topshop.

Kim also was an accomplished painter and video filmmaker who had a solo show of her artwork in Seoul.

Bloggers in South Korea mourned her death, speculating she felt the pressure of high-fashion modeling and a loss of identity.

In an Oct. 30 entry on her blog, Kim wrote she was “mad depressed and overworked,” and in another entry said “the more i gain the more lonely it is … i know i’m like a ghost.”

The last entry on her blog, dated Nov. 18, was titled “say hi to forever” and carried a video of the song “I Go Deep” by British singer Jim Rivers.

South Korea — which has the highest suicide rate among the 30 nations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development — has had a string of high-profile suicides over the past year.

Former President Roh Moo-hyun jumped to his death in May while embroiled in a widening corruption scandal and the ex-chairman of South Korea’s oldest conglomerate killed himself earlier this month. In 2008, top actress Choi Jin-sil committed suicide, following in the footsteps of a fellow actor. A young actress in one of South Korea’s popular soap operas also died by suicide.

Rest In peace to all the talented, successful but depressed people out there. Is it really so hard to not let it get to you? =(

  • Binge Week?

    Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 1:17AM / Members only

Today I had a bit of a wake up call at work. I am going to work very hard from now on. Prove to my bosses that I can achieve anything... *fighting!*

Last night, we went for the Belgos Beat the Clock offer; between 5-6:30pm, whenever you make your order, the time you order is the price you pay. There were only 5 items on that limited menu so we ordered all 5 for the four of us to share. I had only eaten Jacobs crackers all day as I got the munchies at 11am and couldn't stop eating them, which meant my appetite was ruined so I didn't eat lunch and instead, had a flavoursome dinner, woohoo.

    We had;

Mussels in a white wine sauce

Wild mushrooms cooked in a light cream and Orval beer sauce with asparagus and button mushrooms in a puff pastry case.

Roast vegetable tartlet with goats cheese and a light tomato coulis.

Spit roasted chicken with a roasted leek and mustard sauce.

Pork and leek sausages with stoemp mash and berry jus. This was all washed down with half a peach beer of course *nod nod*.

After the meal, me and Katy went to Urban Outfitters to browse whilst the boys went to Kulu Kulu as they were still hungry (crazy).

'The Prisoner' turned out to be really good, we were in the premier rooms in Odeon West End, with free pop corn and water and also had pre-screening talks with the producer, director and star, Ian McKellen! The main guy in the programme, James Caviezel, was gorgeous! 'The Prisoner' reminds me of 'Lost' and is only 6 episodes long (we watched 2 episodes) so short enough to keep me interested!

    I'll be seeing you again!

Today, Sui Man took me out to lunch. We went to Fabrizio, which is literally across the road from my office *high five*. My meal was really yummy! Since I tried risotto for the first time in SuA, I really wanted it again and so asked for this special-sounding one...

OMG, this Cuttlefish ink risotto with tiger prawns, green peas and cherry tomatos was DELICIOUS! A bit weird when I first saw it as it was jet black, but it tastes devine.

Sui Man had the crab and mascarpone ravioli below with creamy lemon sauce and rocket leaves, which was yummy but no where near as nice as mine, hah!

    see?

Hmm, I'm leaving in about 45 mins to go and see JUMP tonight lol. Can't wait to see cutey Jeong-Soo again!

    Night y'all! xXx
  • One New Change

    Awwo!

I'm very excited about One New Change, a new retail complex right next to St Paul's Cathedral, due to open October 2010! I currently work off High Holborn, there is literally no decent shopping areas here. There are a million diamond jewelery shops on Hattton Garden, Leather Lane market and High Holborn, which boasts a NEXT, Monsoon, Marks & Spencer Food Hall and Argos from what I recall! Otherwise, I have to trek to the West End for Oxford Street, Covent Garden etc, which is a bit crappy for me as I'm very CBA after work. There's going to be around 70 retail units there, enough to keep me busy after work I guess?

Here is the artist's impression of One New Change. It will complement nearby St Paul's Cathedral and even have a roof terrace where you can enjoy views of the historic landmark.

This is what the site looks like as of April 09! I go past the site every day and can see the ground floor windows are up now.

Another reason to be happy is my little Amykins will be starting her new job soon near to me! She will become a professional penis-handler at Bart's Hospital as of 7th December, woohoo, good times! Going to Belgos then seeing the screening of the first 2 episodes of 'The Prisoner' tonight.

Hmm, it looks kinda boring..eek. Tomolo, about 10 of us are going to see JUMP again, yay, can't wait! Thursday will be 'Climbing Thursday' as Amy puts it .

Aww, Mariah Carey is switching on the Christmas lights at Westfield on Thursday!!! And I can't go cos I'm climbing!!! *cries*

    Ciao poopies xXx.

AaaaaahhhHHHhhhH, JUMP was SOO good! We loved it! Kz didn't come bcos he was working so I took my little Amykins. Gosh, my eye make up was running down my face and Amy's glasses steamed up from laughing so much. Right now we are booking more tix to see them next week haha, can't wait!!

Took a quick pic as we were leaving, JUMP stage behind me.

Ultra cute Jeong-See Lee who played the son-in-law. This pic is from the programme.

Today is chillax home day, woop woop.. bring on X Factor! xXx.
  • Climbing and Jumping

    Friday, Nov 13, 2009 9:57PM / Members only

Climbng was so fun last night, Amykins and the Pimp were really co-operative! Amy loves climbing now so hopefully, we can go as a foursome more often (me, Kz, her and Calvyn)! The Pimp was err... not as enthusiastic as we thought he'd be, aww blesh!

It's great being surrounded by muscular, tattoo'd half naked guys too *wink*.

Tonight I will be watching a bunch of Korean guys bouncing around the West End stage. Jump looks so fun, I cannot wait to see it!

    *******

Now a runaway international success, Ye Gam: Jump is the most entertaining, fun show you'll see all year, and has received rave reviews during its three runs at the Peacock Theatre, sell out Edinburgh Festival shows, and in New York.

A pair of hapless burglars get more than they bargained for when they break into the home of this crazy Korean family, complete with karate-chopping mother and Tae-kwon-do expert grandfather! One of Korea’s biggest-selling shows, Jump now has its very own permanent theatre in Seoul and has toured throughout Europe, Asia and America. Don’t miss this adrenaline-packed display of Tae-kwon-do, jaw-dropping flips, dazzling acrobatics and sword fights… crossed with a sit-com.

    *******

I signed up for audience tickets for X Factor and my reserve date was for tomolo... sadly, looks like I'm not gonna get any tix to see X Factor now, boo! But I do need to rest up, I have been doing stuff almost every night and I'm getting really tired now. I'll be staying in on Saturday night watching my beloved X Factor. My friend Linda has had a baby girl; me and Kz will be driving up to Milton Keynes to see her and Baby Gloria, yay!

    Ok, how cute is THIS?!

Which reminds me, Steph, when will I see you and Butts?!! (I know you're reading this!)

Have a great weekend guys. xXx
