This weekend it's The Bad and the Beautiful with Kirk Douglas(Jonathan Shields), Lana Turner, Barry Sullivan and Dick Powell. A movie producer needs help after making three flops. Too bad the people he needs to help hate him. The new re-release dvd of Jackie's Crime Story. And The Postman Always Rings Twice with John Garfield(Frank) and Lana Turner (Cora). Is Cora's husband a goner after she has a fling?

This weekend besides Zulu which was leftover from last week, I have 'Cloak and Dagger' with Gary Cooper as Alvah Jasper a retired physics prof who gets mixed up with government agents and nazi's. Then it's 'Killer Bait a.k.a. Too Late For Tears'. With Lizabeth Scott, Athur Kennedy and Dan Duryea. A bickering couple finds a bag of money that's been dropped in the back seat of their car. Wife wants to keep it. Uh oh. I guess that spells trouble, mister.

Netflix This Weekend- from the envelope 7/27-28

First movie will be 'The Narrow Margin' and to spare myself having to remember character names I'll take the info 'straight from the envelope'. Charles McGraw as hard-boiled cop Walter Brown. Mobster's moll- Marie Windsor This one has trains and goons. Oooh. Also 'The Killers'. The 1946 version. With Burt Lancaster as 'The Swede'. And 'Zulu', with Michael Caine. Not Noir, but I like to mix it up a little.

Netflix last weekend. 7/20-21/07

Warning- I'm bad at remembering character names. Supremely bad. Okay. Lately I've been renting a LOT of those films called 'noir'. I've gone through most of the classic oldies and there seems to be an abundance of 'noir' for the good or the bad out there. I had to choose from 'Scarlett Street' about an old guy who gets mixed up with a young girl. And 'The Blue Gardenia', less of a who-done-it and more of a 'did-I-do-it'. A girl gets a 'dear Jane' letter from her man in Korea and goes on a bender with a shady character, played by Raymund Burr. Perry Mason as 'Harry', there 'gets fresh' and the girl finds other uses for a poker, like dampening down a fresh guy. But, when she wakes up she can't remember the poker game. But dead guys have a way of turning up. Did she kill him? I preferred 'The Blue Gardenia' to 'Scarlett Street', because the characters in Scarlett Street bored me. I prefer guys like Edward G. Robinson to play 'Johnny Rocco' characters, instead of Christopher Cross who embezzles for a woman he's never even snogged. And Blue Gardenia has an appearance by Nat King Cole singing the title song. I wouldn't give either film a Grade A rating. I've seen better. I also rented 'House By The River'. A writer, down on his writing luck, is also down on his luck with housemaids. While trying to be 'Mr. Romance' he smothers his housemaid. What to do? Why, beg your brother for help and toss the girl in the river... of course. Unfortunately, the cat does not stay in the bag, or at the bottom of the river. But, not to worry. Our villain has made sure that 'bag' has his brother's name on it. A trial ensues, in which no one points out the stupidity required to dump a body in a bag with your name on it. All fingers point to brother. While our villain get happier and begins to write a story about his crime and try to murder his brother. The end was predictable. The suspense was non-existant. Better things could have been done with the story. I reccommend 'The Blue Gardenia'. And we'll see about Netflix this weekend, next weekend.

Seriously, I'm curious. Why do you read blogs? SunsetGun said I would be surprised to know what people want to read about. I mean, if I told the story of my mom wanting cataract surgery and how I have to set that all up and take her to her appointments, is it 'that' interesting to someone? Tell me why you read personal blogs?
