With all the hate and war that is going on in this world, it is so refreshing to see how a group of people can come together and in complete random deliver to the world something so unique, so overwhelmingly beautiful.
A reality show in Belgium recently performed a PR stunt where they hired 200 dancers and choreographed a number to be performed in Antwerp's central train station...during rush hours with many unsuspecting people. This performance was not announced and caught many by surprised. The end result, a humorous yet wonderfully performed spectacle that made me wish I can be a part of.
My friend Sammi, whom I've known for nearly seven
years, is getting married this coming May. She was kind enough to invite
me to one of her dress fitting sessions last weekend, provided that I take
pictures of her. And I gotta say getting married must be one of the most
stressful things in a person's life.
The appointment was set for 2:30pm on a Sunday. Being the prompt person I've
always been, I arrived at the bridal shop dead on but I was the only one
there. So I called her only to find out that the featured starlet was
still at home fixing her hair. I could hardly hear her as her voice was
overpowered by the screams and yells of others in her room. From their
comments I can tell that their "argument" was over her hair so I
figured it's best to leave her be.Without
knowing whether she can actually hear me, I told her I'll see her later and
hung up.
A good hour had passed when she finally showed up. During that hour I grabbed
myself a cup of coffee. She was already in
the fitting room trying on the dress when I returned. When she came out,
she looked absolutely amazing. I honestly believe a wedding dress is just
one of those dresses that would make anyone look exceptionally beautiful.
So there she was, looking in the mirror while her sister and mother are
constantly picking, tugging, adjusting her dress. They kept commenting on
this and that, bouncing off ideas and feedback about how to make certain things
look prettier or how it should feel. Every little details were analyzed
to the full extent.Sometimes, the ideas
overlapped and what was once a disliked suddenly turned into a favorite.
Sometimes, with comments flying left and right it, Sammi gets overwhelmed and
start showing her frustration. Her frustration then boiled over to her mother
and sister and all of a sudden the tension is so high that I fear someone will simply
rip the dress to pieces in anger!!!
Ok, I'm exaggerating but truth is, I can tell it was really stressful for
everyone. It's understandable since this is, afterall, her wedding day; The
most important day of her life thus far. We were there for a few hours
and everyone handled it quite well. Below are some pictures I took of her
and her dress.
The hypocrisy of Western societies have once again been
demonstrated to the full extend when they put two sculptures taken, nay stolen,
from Bejing in 1860 in an auction.
Since when was it legal to sell stolen goods?
Those sculptures represented pieces of Chinese history, pieces
of China.
They were looted from us in a brutal
invasion because we wouldn’t support their Opium import, which was killing our
people!!And they dare auctioning them off
in a public!?This represents the utmost
disrespect for China
and the Chinese people and we shouldn’t stand for it. Not now, not ever.
Fortunately, we now have more pride in ourselves than back
in the 1800s. Mr. Cai Mingchao, an
adviser to China's
National Treasures Fund, has pulled what I considered to be a great prank and
justice on behalf of the Chinese people. He bided for the sculptures when they went
into auction and “won” them! Now, he
refused to pay because he feels that they belong rightfully to the Chinese
people.
I am extremely proud of Mr. Cai for doing this and I believe
all Chinese should support his actions. Not for his refusal to pay for the sculptures
but for his decision to stand up for what is right.
For those of you who have read my profile here on AnD, you'll know that I am a business person.
I'm about to start a new venture in Hong Kong/China and I came up with this idea of documenting my pursuit for business success. The goal is to share my experiences as I slowly built a company from nothing to...whatever it becomes. Those who also have a passion for success, can share their ideas on how a company should be built. Think of it as a forum for entrepreneurs, where creative business ideas flies. Who knows, some good ideas may get put into practice.
The Successful Pursit will consiste of video blogs and written blogs. It will be posted on the following location:Blogger.com (http://successfulpursuit.blogspot.com/), YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/successfulpursuit), and of course, AnD.
You may think "Why are you posting business blogs on AnD? This is an artist site!". True. But little do you know there is an artistic element to business. Business is also about expressing oneselfs. The product or services a company carries reflect upon a person's beliefs and values. Everyday, entrepreneurs are faced with difficult decisions that require creativity and an artistic point of view.
Business is not all technical. To succeed, it takes passion and drive. It takes discipline and a focused mind.
Must like a musician, painter, or actor/actresses. To succeed in business is a balance of art and science. And I hope you'll see that if you join me on my successful pursuit. =)
To all my friends and fellow AnDers, Happy New Year! I wish everyone...身体健康, 万事如意, 新年幸福!!
I haven't post an entry for a couple of months. I've got to be honest, it is mostly because I'm a bit lazy and fallen off my discipline wagon. :P I promise I won't do it again and will write more often.
That being said, it is with great sadness that my first post of 2009 and year of the Ox be a rather negative one. Here goes...
I'm sure to those of you who resides in Hong Kong are familiar with 黑妹 these past few days. 黑妹 is a mutt who accidentally trapped herself between two temples in Saigon, Hong Kong. She has been trapped for 4 days with her head and tail being the only body parts she can move. She was discovered by a passer by, who happened to be walking his dog when he heard 黑妹's wimpering. He then proceeds to call the authorities for help. After that, 黑妹 has become an instant news sensation. Pet lovers from all around gathered to offer their support for 黑妹, talking to her, cheering her up, offering food and water. 黑妹 initally responded very well by wagging her tail. Firefighters have made numerous attempts to pull 黑妹 out between the two temples but she was in too deep to be pulled without being seriously injured. They have even attempted to pour oil on her in hopes that she'll be able to slip away.
Now some of you might ask, why knock a hole through one of the walls? Sounds like an easy solution doesn't it? Well, it is. But here is where it really gets my blood boil. The two temples are owned by the villagers and being the idoitic old fashioned ignorant ass that they are, refused to accept any damage to the temples. Their reason? Not because of cost, but because of Feng Sui (風水).
How sad are we to live in a world where a life is less important than luck? 風水!? Are you fucking kidding me? There are traditions that best be forgotten and I will be the first one to sign up if they ever come to their senses and decided to abolish 風水. 風水 is a fraud, a con, a big fucking lie. If you believe in 風水, you're not only lying to others, you are lying to yourself. Believing that if you have your funiture adjusted in such a way success will be invetiable. Oh how I wish life can be so simple. Because of 風水, this poor little dog had to endure various types of unusual, and possibly painful rescue attempts, when a small hole in the wall might have done the trick.
Eventually, firefighters did set 黑妹 free but she is already in terrible shape. Sadly, she didn't make it and died on her way to the vet. 風水 has murdered 黑妹.
For those who knows chinese, below is the news report about the event. To the "elders" who took 風水 over a life. I can only wish that 黑妹's ghost will haunt your villages for many years to come.

Come to think of it, I'm really not too sure what to say about myself. I guess it could be because my perception of myself seems to be very different than how others see me.
It's really great to be a member of AnD and keep track of my favorite entertainer (2R is my fav), but what's even better about this place is that it allows an average joe like myself to flex my artistic and creative muscles. I've been an amature photographer for 1, 2, 5...7 months now, but I have always been intersted in photography. With the invention of digital photogrpahy, I can now fully explore my artistic side.
I will be posting my pictures here on AnD, so for those of you who does check out my page, feel free to offer your feedback and comments!
