  • Pictures that changed the world

    Wednesday, Nov 12, 2008 10:42PM / Standard Entry / Photography

    "Picture means a thousand words...".

The ability to capture a particular moment that depicts the action and emotion of a scene is what great photography is all about.  Great picture will draw you attention so much so that you become a part of the scene and a part of the history the picture represents.

Sometimes, a picture taken at the right moment in a right environment can be so powerful that it can change the world.  The magazine LIFE has kept an archive of 100 photographs that changed the world.  These pictures not only captured the moment perfectly, but also capture the curiosity and imagination of the viewer.

Below are some of the photographs that was honored...you can also find them by clicking on the link (http://www.digitaljournalist.org/issue0309/lm_index.html).

***WARNING: Some of the pictures are extremely graphic and disturbing.  Discretion is advised.***

  • Art & Video games

    Friday, Sep 26, 2008 12:02PM / Standard Entry / Personal

Art can be found anywhere, even in the most unsuspected places.

Video games have come a long way since Pong.  Technological advancement has transformed once a dull, time wasting hobby, into a billion dollar industry.

But it is not all about money.  Better graphics and better computer processors have allowed art and creativity to become key components in any successful video game.  No longer are video games simply about shooting and hitting.  Video games are now more about the story and their ability to elicit emotion within players.

RPG (Role Playing Games) are video games where the player plays a role of the main character in the game.  It has become one of the most successful genre of the industry and one of the best and most well known RPG in the gaming world is the Final Fantasy franchise by Square Soft, Inc.

There are a total of 12 Final Fantasy games since the first one was released by in 1987, and the thirteenth version is currently in development.  Final Fantasy is famous for two things: Its story and its music.  Game play is often excellent but it does take a back seat.  Players (those who enjoy RPG at least) will lose him or her self within the story and the help of beautifully composed music, emotion of the players often run high.

One of the BEST Final Fantasy games ever produced was Final Fantasy VI, released in 1994.  The story is still the best amongst all the FF games, and its music is nothing short of heavenly.  It is art and creativity combined to give player an amazing gaming experience.

For example, below is one scene from FFVI.  It is considered by some the best scene ever made by a RPG game.  In this scene, you'll see one of the main female characters, Cele, performing in an opera.  She is playing a princess that is morning the lost of her be-loved prince.  Her grief and her longing for her prince is expresses through this fantastically composed ballad...All I can say it, I cried while watching this scene.

The lyrics is a bit soft, but still this is art and gaming at its best.

    Enjoy

    LYRICS
    Oh my hero,
    so far away now.
Will I ever see your smile?
    Love goes away,
    like night into day.
    It's just a fading dream.

    I'm the darkness,
    you're the stars.
Our love is brighter than the sun.
    For eternity,
    for me there can be
    only you, my chosen one.

    Must I forget you?
    Our solem promise?
Will autumn take the place of spring?
    What shall I do?
    I'm lost without you.
    Speak to me once more.

[He appears to her and they dance]
[He then fades away, leaving a bouquet of flowers]
[She takes the flowers to the top of the balcony and tosses them to the wind]

    We must part now.
    My life goes on,
but my heart wont give you up
    Ere I walk away,
    let me hear you say,
I meant as much to you...

    So gently,
    you touched my heart.
    I will be forever yours.
    Come what may,
    I won't age a day,
    I'll wait for you always...

Here is the instrumental version of the song (I didn't draw the picture btw) :

  • Daniel Powter - Bad Day

    Monday, Sep 22, 2008 11:21AM / Standard Entry / Personal

I'll be honest, I tried to hate this song.  Because this song have such a pop feel to it and I felt that the subject is so cheezy that I just want to hate it.  Try as I might...I can't.  I love this song.  And the lyrics (though cheezy) is still kinda uplifting.  Listen to the song with the lyrics and it'll put things into perspective and things aren't so bad.

After all...it's only a day.   Enjoy!

Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to gray
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carryin' on

You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee you go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carryin' on

Because you had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
    You had a bad day
    You had a bad day

Will you need a blue sky holiday?
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carryin' on

    You had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
    You had a bad day

    (Oooh.. a holiday..)

Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well oh that strong
    And I'm not wrong

    (yeah...)

So where is the passion when you need it the most
    Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

Cause you had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    You've seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
    You had a bad day
    You had a bad day

  • Could it be?

    Thursday, Sep 11, 2008 6:23AM / Standard Entry / Personal

So, I was browsing the AnD website looking for new artists I like....
And I stumble on the "Members" page and something caught my sight...

    Could it be?
    That me!
    It can't be!
Let me double check and see!

    Yes! It me!
    On the "Most Popular"
is where I see my picture!

This is awesome to the max!
I gotta tell all my friends & family where my profile is being featured at!

Then after the surprise I settle down and starting to think...

"AnD" has tonnes of members, no way would I even be close to being the "most popular".
Some thing is wrong that make this discovery so peculiar.

So I log out, and refresh the page...

Thinking that if my face shows up again then I know that I just might be cool amazing and hot.
But sadly, once the page is done refreshin, I know the true answer is that I really am not... =(
