  • He Said He Loves Me; I Asked Why

    Friday, Jul 24, 2009 11:20PM / Standard Entry

Har har har! The funny thing is, he said "You're probably going to blog about this, aren't you?" Anyway.

Before he left for Vegas for his stupid game tournament (Evo2009), we were saying our goodbyes and I love yous.

    Here's how it went:
    Me:
    I love you
    Him: I love you too.
Me: Really? You really love me?
    Him:
Yes, I really do love you, with all my heart.
    Me: Why?

Then it became silent. He stuttered a bit.

Him: I love you because, ..., uh, UGH! Why do you have to put me on the spot like that?!?

Should I be upset that he can't tell me why he loves me? More Here...

  • Why do parents lie to their children?

    Friday, Jul 24, 2009 10:50PM / Standard Entry

Awhile back, I read an interesting article about how parents repeat statements to their children to instill a false sense of hope, security and a drive to succeed. While well-intended, these idioms are still lies that can end up doing more harm than good. Sometimes, parents tell these lies because they themselves honestly believe in them. As such, I've decided to provide some prime examples of seemingly innocent, seemingly harmless white lies that kids still hear.

"As long as you try your best, that's what matters."
Dear mom, I told this exact same thing to my instructor this evening after falling short of the B required to pass the class. She told me I needed to grow up... or was it "wake up and welcome to the real world"? Either way, I'm beginning to think that maybe, just maybe, my best doesn't really matter as much as you said. Why didn't you prepare me for this? Did you think this was a game, a practical joke?  More Here...

  • Will the Real Racist Please Stand Up?

    Friday, Jul 24, 2009 10:20PM / Standard Entry

In the recent incident between a White Cop and a Black Professor, the question of race has once again, come to the front. *

There are two versions on this story:

ONE: White Cop shows up to a house where a break-in is suspected and finds a black man in grubby clothes, who becomes belligerent, threatening and uncooperative in response to the White Cop’s request for ID. White Cop repeatedly askes Black Professor to calm down, finally arresting Black Professor for disorderly conduct and threatening a police officer.

TWO: Black Professor opens door to White Cop, who barges into his home, demands ID, which Black Professor kindly gives him. White Cop ignores ID and arrests Black Professor for disorderly conduct when Black Professor attempts to peacefully state his rights and defend his home.

So, what do you think: Did White Cop stereotype Black Professor, assuming he was a criminal because he was black? Did Black Professor stereotype White Cop, assuming he was a racist because he was white? More Here...

  • Confessions of a Skinny Girl

    Friday, Jul 24, 2009 4:33AM / Standard Entry

All my life I've been skinny. It's not my fault; I haven't done anything to become this way. I'm an active girl, I have a high metabolism. But I eat a lot and I've never once attempted to lose weight by starving myself or throwing up.

Skinny girls have body issues too. I've been accused of being anorexic and bulimic several times. I've been denied the right to hanging out with one of my best friends because I was a "bad influence". Her mom wrongfully assumed I had an eating disorder.

It seems like everyone is striving for skinny, but skinny isn't all that great. More Here...
