  • Why a part time job?

    Wednesday, Mar 4, 2009 9:01AM / Members only

    Hi everybody;

It has been some time since my last entry.  Really busy.

Yesterday, I went for a job interview as a part time cleaning aunty for a child card center.  It is new, not in function yet till April.  The place is very big and clean but very dusty due to the contrating work that is still going on.

You may wonder why choose such a job.  My hubby said that since I had a 'O' level cert, he think that I can look for a better job such as an admin clerk or somthing better than cleanning. Well, to me it is ok.  The place is near my house and I can walk there although it will take about 15-20 minutes depending on my speed. Secondly, the time suits me well, I have requested it to be in the morning 7am to 1pm.The other reason is that I'll be able to save some $$ so that I can bring my family to a holiday during the Dec school holidays.  With this amount , we can venture further.  Otherwise, we will be stick in here and not able to go overseas.  It's the best way to borden ones knowledge and I hope to give my children this opportunity.

I really crossing my fingers right now cos I still not sure if my interview was successful or not.  Wish myself luck.

Also wish that everyone to be in the pink of health and may your wish come true.

  • The Ninth day of Chinese New Year

    Monday, Feb 2, 2009 8:25AM / Members only

At the blink of the eye, it's already the eighth day of Chinese New Year.  . Well yesterday was 人日, ren ri, do you know what is 人日?

The seventh day, traditionally known as renri 人日, the common man's birthday, the day when everyone grows one year older.

It is the day when tossed raw fish salad, yusheng, is eaten. This is a custom primarily among the overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia and Singapore. People get together to toss the colourful salad and make wishes for continued wealth and prosperity.

For many Chinese Buddhists, this is another day to avoid meat. So....
    Happy Belated Birthday

Today is the eighth day of Chinese New Year nothing special but tomorrow will be  special! How? Read the following.

The Ninth day of the new year

The ninth day of the New Year is a day for Chinese to offer prayers to the Jade Emperor of Heaven (天公) in the Taoist Pantheon. The ninth day is traditionally the birthday of the Jade Emperor.

This day is especially important to Hokkiens and Teochews (Min Nan speakers). Come midnight of the eighth day of the new year, Hokkiens will offer thanks giving prayers to the Emperor of Heaven. Offerings will include sugarcane as it was the sugarcane that had protected the Hokkiens from certain extermination generations ago. Tea is served as a customary protocol for paying respect to an honored person.

No matter what day is today, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,to me - everyday is a good day.

Wish eveyone everyday a happy, healthy and worry free day.

    Regards
    munfoong

    Cai Shen

Happy Nui Year everybody! Let me "give"  you a 財神!

Cai Shen (traditional Chinese: 財神; simplified Chinese: 财神; pinyin: Cáishén) is the Chinese god of prosperity. He can be referred to as Zhao Gongming or Bi Gan.[1] Though Cai Shen started as a Chinese folk hero, later deified and venerated by local followers and admirers, Taoism and Pure Land Buddhism also came to venerate him as a god.

Cai Shen's name is often invoked during the Chinese New Year celebrations.[1] He is often depicted riding a black Tiger and holding a golden rod. He may also be depicted armed with any one of several iron weapons.

Several versions of Cai Shen's political affiliation and subsequent deification are circulated.[1] It is unclear whether he is a genuine historical figure, though the vast majority of stories agree that Cai Shen lived during the early Qin Dynasty. It is believed that Bi Gan had a wife with the surname Chen (陈), or Chan in Cantonese. His son is Quan (泉). After Bi Gan was assassinated, his wife and son escaped into the woods. His death eventually marked the collapse of the Shang Dynasty. Later on, Quan was honoured as the ancestor of all Lin's by Zhou Wu Wang.
