I was watching the local evening news and apparently, the 8+ magnitude earthquake off of American Samoa this morning their time has created SERIOUS tsunami risk around the Pacific basin ... here's what was reported locally for Oregon state ...

    Tsunami advisory along Oregon Coast

    Last Update: 4:55 pm
Federal experts say a magnitude-8.3 quake in the South Pacific has created a tsunami warning along the Oregon coast according to KOIN meteorologist Bruce Sussman.

The quake occurred at 10:48 a.m. PDT Tuesday in the Samoa Islands region. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's West Coast and Alaska Tsunamia Warning Center says it was a strong earthquake and a release states it "is a tsunami capable of producing currents or waves dangerous to persons in or near water."

Sussman noted that the advisory will take place beginning tonight around 9 p.m. in some Oregon Coastal cities.

To learn more, see Bruce Sussman's full forecast tonight at 5 on KOIN Local 6.

    Lane County Tsunami advisory

The Lane County Sheriff's Office advises community members in coastal areas to stay out of the water, off the beach, and away from harbors and marinas after receiving a National Weather Service Tsunami Advisory for the Central Oregon Coast.

The advisory came after a Samoan Islands 8.3 earthquake that generated tsuanami waves in that Samoan Islands region.

Although no significant coastal flooding is expected, some areas could experience dangerous current and surges in harbors and bays tonight around 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. In an excess of caution, the Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol deputies will be in the area conducting a light patrol of the area to encourage people to stay away from the beaches.

This is an advisory only; there is no tsunami watch or warning currently in affect.
Hit up Google for more info on other regions using "Oregon Coast Tsunami Warning" ... I did, and it gives a HUGE list of possibly effected areas, as well as reports on the earthquake itself ...
and PRAY for the victims & survivors of the earthquake!!!

Water was so calm along our coast though!!! When I saw the warning through Twitter, I didn't read the whole thing and thought it was actually along CA-OR coast....that was scary.
