  • Summer Road Trip - Part 1

Chicago is only a three hour drive away. Becuz of all the great attractions and museums, etc. there, we try to get to Chicago at least once a year. This year's road trip was only a two day-- kinda short and sweet--but a lot of fun. I know, shut up Scarlett, get on with the picture...

    Oh all right...

My family reeeeeeeeally likes zoos so we default to zoo-ing of there's one in the area we are visiting.

SIDE NOTE: Someone needs to settle a dispute for me. Recently, a friend told me, "Asian people don't like zoos." I think he's out of his tree, but didn't argue. I think he just doesn't like zoos, himself, and wants me to believe it's a cultural thing. Soooooo my Asian friends, what say you!?

Anyhoo, this year, it was Brookfield Zoo, just outside of Chicago. And, very much like last years road trip and zoo visit, there seem to be an excess number of animals mooning me!

    rhino moon

emu moon... Quick story! There were young gals at the emu exhibit. They were suppose to tell us about the emus. My mother-in-law raises emu here in MI so we ended up telling them about the bird...including what hey taste like

    hippo moon

    ibex moon

    warthog moon

    ostrich moon

    okapi moon

    Canadian goose moon

    annnnnnnnnnnnnd elephant moon!

Fortunately, there were some other, less rude animals there too!

yay camels! Cept they were all hiding in the barn

I like alligators. Even when they're dead, they look happy

yes, it's OK for this bat to be crawling on the floor. How do I know? There was a sign that said "yes, it's OK for the bats to be crawling on the floor."

leave it to girl-child to find a zoo invader. Common North American Toad. Ironically, we spotted one of these on exhibit in the zoo later  Girl-child too the opportunity to show this little guy to a group of girls from a city community center, who were also visiting the zoo, before sending him on her merry toad way...

giraffe... the guy in the foreground was a bark licker...Either that or he though that tree was an all-day sucker

no idea. Girl-child insisted I take this picture, "becuz it's random!" She's random...

Brookflield's carousel has the coooooolest animals!!!

can't have zoo pics without lions

is my family the only ones who saw this sign and said, together, "hmmm... must be Italian..."?

    macaw kisses!

some blue bird whose name escapes me

ha! I love the look on this bears face. CAPTION TIME!

The Fragile Rain Forest, "Italian" comment...
Think "A Christmas Story," the movie, and what Ralphie's dad says just before he opens the crate which holds his "major award."
