The date on my last blog was September 2010. Most of the time, at this point, people start apologizing for not blogging. I'm not gonna. Why? I haven't done anything wrong and I've nothing to feel guilty about. *shrug*
I haven't really done anything all that notable since September. Now that I think about it, I don't remember a lot of last fall. Don't worry, it's not becuz of some horrible accident
I'd known for several years that I had a sleep disorder. I just didn't know how bad it was. Things I experienced I wrote off as hormonal or just another part of my quirky personality. I had no idea sleep deprivation was a science unto itself until it landed me in the office of a Neurologist specializing in Sleep Medicine. Apparently what I have is quite rare in women of my age group and build--I'm kind of a little person--but there I sat in a waiting room surrounded by the elderly and morbidly obese. Not getting good sleep is serious business. But, that's a whole other blog...
Anyway, here's a few(?)pics to get everyone caught up:
For his second birthday, my nephew was given a beagle-chihuahua mix puppy. Is there a "designer breed" name for that combination? chibeagle... beaghuahua... chigle? Eh... Anyhoo, his name is Jo-Jo.
Jo-Jo came over for a play date. Trinity wanted nothing to do with the pup, but Dash was thrilled to have someone to play with.
everyone gets acquainted via sniffing...
Dash discovered being bigger isn't necessarily better when your opponent has needly puppy teeth and goes for your ankles then ears
In October, we took our Annual Orchard Tour (there's a link at that blog to the previous year too) freshly harvested...
all important cider and donuts
the discovery that bees not only prefer chocolate donut frosting over other flavors of donut frosting, but, also, that bees have tongues!
I began my preparations for Christmas with some plasters painting.
I think they turned out pretty good
I sprayed it with a triple gloss clear coat that gives paint a glassy look.
October also produced some food porn...
Large Fuji apples (firm with a slightly sweet, tart flavor) dipped in caramel, then semi-sweet chocolate and rolled in toasted almonds.
a Rocky Road Brownie made with a very large marshmallow skull
Also, in October, was, of course Halloween. As is my tradition, I make my kids' costumes. I let them choose whatever they want to be, and I make it happen. This year was Princess Kitana and a sniper. girl-child sure is getting big...
boy-child is in this picture, you just have to find him...
...and in this one.
this one makes it a lot easier.
There he is! That's a homemade ghillie suit! And, yes, he did wear it out hunting a few times after.
BUT
Before Halloween happened, I did have a somewhat horrible accident...
I'd never cooked with a fresh pumpkin before and wanted to try my hand at it so, while on our Orchard Tour, I bought a cooking pumpkin. I found a soup recipe I wanted to try. It required me to decapitate, clean out and chop up part of the pumpkin raw (as opposed to oven baking and scooping out the insides like a squash). Best tool for the job is a heavy cleaver, right?
Worked well till the pumpkin slipped...
(WARNING: the next photos are a bit on the gory side...)
we called it "Frankenfinger"
after the stitches came out

I went half-way though the middle finger on my right hand--thankful to be left-handed
The cleaver stopped when it hit the bone. Yeah, I not only cut it "real good," I broke it too.
The day after the accident, I knew, if I didn't "get back on the horse," I'd never pick up that cleaver again. So I went back at that pumpkin!
Yes, I finish making the pumpkin soup
Adding insult to (severe) injury, it wasn't very good
Soooooo, II roasted and ate the "children of my foe"
I'm happy to report, Frankenfinger, though still a little scared and a wee bit numb on the end, has made a full recovery
See? Three months later (pic taken in January 2011), you can barely tell!
November saw the beginning of Michigan's annual great deer harvest and, of course, Thanksgiving.
December will need to be a separate blog. Rhett and I took the wee-people to Disney World in Florida and there's several 100 pictures
And, yeah, I have a bit of food porn from Christmas to share too...
December also brought a loss from which I doubt I will ever recover... My heart hurts...
