Every year in mid-October, we take a trip north-ish to the Michigan Apple Orchards. For a whooooooooole lot of interesting factoids,
go visit my blog from our orchard tour last year. You'll notice pictures this year taken at a lot of the same places.
The morning started with taking Dash and Trinity, our beagles, for a walk. Our quiet suburban neighborhood has it's own private late. Sounds more high falutin than it is. Quarry lakes--an abandon gravel pit or rock quarry that's filled in with water usually by naturally occurring springs--are really common around here. The previous day had been cold and this morning was warm. That make perfect condition for mist on the lake...
And then, it was off to the orchards!
Is it just a "Michigan thing" or do other farmers write the family name on the barn roof in shingles?
A little paint on the barn doors

This orchard has a little shop that sells preserves, apples, cider, pumpkins, decorations and frozen pies!
The shop's greeter.
Pumpkins already picked.
This is Hunter. He was featured in my blog last year too. Good to see the old fella's still with us. He came up and greeted us as we were leaving.
Girl-child decided to give Hunter a scrubbin' on his back. As you can see from his face, he's enjoying it. So much so, he wasn't gonna move for the lady coming up the steps behind him. "Sorry lady. I'm gettin' a scrubbin'. Yer gonna have to wait."
Hay ride horses! We didn't go. Rhett's horribly allergic to horses. Him swelling up and dying would have ruined the day.
Same tractor, different year, and Boy-child riding it.
This pic is for you Jane! Isn't it huge! I put my hot cider cup next to it for scale.
FACTOID: Goats like being scrubbed just like dogs do.
I put blow ups of the boy in the field in the corner of both picsl See him out there? This was the "pick your own" pumpkin field. He was out there trying to get this huge one and his parents were already on there way to see the goats. He was yelling, "Mom! Mom! I found one!" Then mom yelled back, "If you can carry it out here, you can have it. The pic above was taken right after she said that. Look at his body language.

Where there's a will, there's a way!!!
Yay for the Hills (we buy pie apples from their orchard every year) for their award! Last year, I grilled Mr. Hill about the finer points of properly trimming an apple tree (I have three). I took all his advice and my trees did produce a lot better this year.

I thought this was cute. It's a planter.
More goats to feed and scrub.
This goat was ready to have her kids anytime. Whenever she stood still, you could see them moving around inside her! Very active kids she's having! (FACTOID: goats usually have twins)
I don't know where these kids mamma was, but they were awful cute. Triplets!
Some Halloween yard art for sale at one of the orchards.
The Red Delicious are almost ready!
A Japanese variety of apple called a Matsu.
Have you ever fed a goat? It's one of those things you need to do as least once. I gave this wee-one half my handful of feed and let him have his first goat feeding experience. Goats have very nimble lips.
SPIDER ALERT!!!
Girl-child found this fella in a potted plant out on the deck.

Blurry yes, but I put my finger in the pic for scale.
The picks below are better....
Isn't he pretty???
