I was talking to an uncle (not blood, in terms of respect) about what my major should be. he asked me what i was interested in, and i told him music. he laughed and asked me "no really?" this is not the only experience i had where a type of artform was frowned upon by my peers particularly the elders and that of asian decent. the reasoning behind this is because of their own experiences through the certain society and culture that they had been exposed to at the time. its very evident that these individuals look down on art and taking art too seriously because in asian countries and more so south east asian countries it is very rare to suceed through such endevours. i know, hell the music industry here in America is a warzone i can only imagine what its like in other countries. music within itself has so much depth and meaningful expression that can be exposed but now and days artists only conceive a small amount of that flow that once existed. art itself has lost meaning and respect in the asian world. people take advantage of the hard work that really is associated with making great pieces of art whether that be music, painting, drawing, sculpting, grafiti, whatever! for a region (Asia) that has been the leader in innovation and artful expression we as a whole have lost our place in the artistic world. your saying to yourself boy this guy does nothing but piss and moan about problems. well heres a solution, and its simple. I think we all need to sit back take a deep breath and take a look at whats in front of us and really let it sink in instead of passing by it like we do every single day.
