you know, sometimes you hear things over and over and again and you try to convince yourself that that is the way it's supposed to be - that it's true; that it must be true; that it must be right. well, sometimes it just aint so.

i know we're not supposed to "fight" because it is barbaric. i know we're not supposed to "fight" because there are always "better" ways to resolve an issue. i know we're not supposed to "fight" because violence is "wrong" and it doesn't solve anything. well, you know what? fuck it. sometimes you just plain simply need to kick some ass. violence doesn't always solve the problem, but sometimes... it does.

i actually learned this many many years ago in the third grade, but somehow society managed to convince me otherwise. case in point: when i was in second grade, there was a class bully named Marcos. he used to pick on all the kids for no good reason. he'd steal, hit, intimidate and beat up kids for fun. one day i got fed up with Marcos and when he tried to push me off the monkey bars on the playground, i stood my ground. i told him to leave me alone. he didn't and when he tried to hit me, i twisted his arm around, dislocated his shoulder, punched his 2 front teeth out and made him cry like so many of the kids that he had made cry in his already extensive bully career. he stopped bullying kids. i think i did the right thing. of course, my parents were called in for a teacher-parent conference, i was suspended from school for a week and i was forced to write an apology letter to Marcos and his family for resorting to violence and hurting him. i in turn, asked that Marcos write letters to all the kids that he had hurt over the years, but i was sternly told by my elders that "two wrongs dont make a right". correction, sometimes 1 wrong can make a right.

so i've resolved to go back to my third grade instincts and do what i feel is right. unfortunately some people will only learn when forcably taught a lesson. sometimes you just need to kick a little ass. this doesn't mean that violence will be my only solution to everything. but it does mean that it's in my arsenal of solutions to problems. lesson to be learned - dont be a dickhead unless you're ready to risk being on the receiving end of consequences.

hey, just random surfing dropping by here.. this is a very interesting topic to explore; so i'd like to express my thoughts on this matter..

I think it is in the nature of humans, as a part of the animal kingdom also, to utilize 'violence' in its dealing with the world or in realtions to other human beings (of course the negative connotation, but if the 'right/good/holy' guys use it, it's 'neccessary action/force =-)  Not promoting the use it by any means here, and of course, give that we're all mental stable, cultured, etc etc... what did the late mr. LEE taught us?? ~~  my sentiment about this subject side with his and his son's thoughts/words...

btw, i just had a dislocated shoulder and it's not fun at all (not from fight, mind you, but from a ill-guarded body position from a b-ball game)  Just for the info, i'm not your "fight-type" of dude at all, and firmly believed that i'm not the type of a$$ that would start anything with ppl... generally like to talk my way out of things...

Lastly, Thankyou for standing up and using the 'force' to defend your ground; at least my type of people don't like to use it and got no pleasure from the 'violence'...but like u said, ...yeah....

it's almost a SIN nowadays to show the 'aggressive' side of a man anymore (which, btw, is also a VERY important part of manhood also, i wouldn't say it DEFINES males, but definately, it is in our genes and being) =p

...we wouldn't want to be become a bunch of ball-less men...or do our modern society want us too?? =)  now let's define 'balls'....hahahh

if u feel that pat, then you just have to kill his family as well...children especially.  don't need the son taking vengeance one day.

the thing about fighting is afterwards ... if you lose you lose; if you win you lose ... because you gotta worry about the loser wanting to get revenge.

"two wrongs don't make a right, but THREE do!!!" yelled Min, as he picked up the chair and smashed the remaining dental work of his  teacher and his elders...."you have shown and weakness and now I am the law and you shall fear me!!! you have failed to honor yourselves and those who came before you and will be weeded out of existence!"  As his elders and teachers cowered in a bloody pool, the Yoo looked coldly upon them and said..."have you forgotten what is best  in life?  Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and to hear the lamentation of the women."

well that's my fantasy of what actually happened.  anyway...Life's a Fight.  We Fight.  Fight to Win.  it's a sign of the human spirit and perseverance.  people who deny it are the same people who deny the "martial" in martial arts and say they are doing it to get culturally connected.   you want to learn about china, korea, japan, etc...go there, learn the language or take a university class about it.  learning the art of combat is about combat.
Embracing and not denying what is in our nature keeps each of us accountable for our actions...there's nothing flowery about it.  If the rest of the world learns it then we'd probably live more peacefully.

I leave this with a quote from Renzo.

"People a lot of times see fighting as an ugly thing...something that denigrates human beings.  In reality, I see fighting in everything.  Everything is fighting.  It doesn't matter what it is.  You wake up in the morning to get out of bed...it's a fight.  Believe it...so fighting is actually the best thing a man can have in his soul."

That's very true, can't always take the gentle approach, you certainly did the right thing to that bully, he was strong only because no one stood up to him, sometimes violence against violence is the only answer.
