Ain't she sweet!  My daughter on the beach last Friday at sunset - a storm was brewing - and winter is officially here!

That is Cape Town in the background....and the beach is called "Bloubergstrand" - translated Blue Mountain Beach.!

  • What a busy time.

    Friday, Apr 17, 2009 8:58PM / Standard Entry

It has been such a hectic but blessed past few months.  I haven't had time to blog or post anything so this one is going to be a bit random and full of various things I've been up to.

As you know, I was performing in a Musical stage production here in Cape Town - Houtkruis.  The piece was quite serious and had mostly a religious and self searching content.  So it was not weird at all seeing us crying on stage at times - especially on the last performance.  But I choose rather to post the funny pics, because after all - show business if for the sake of entertainment?

The thrill of an empty theatre.  Awaiting the audience.

The chorus.....after 6 weeks of working, crying and laughting together we feel like family.

Well the costumes were 1530 period - Germany.  Me being of rather small frame and the costumes not tailor made (as the chorus changes when the production is on tour) - I ended up looking like a bloated pheasant fairy godmother....judge for yourself.

I had to study my Mandarin as well - I tried doing that whilst sitting in the dressingrm closet - so as not to annoy my fellow cast members with the strange new sounds I was trying to make....

One of the lead characters (Leon Ferreira) is a gospel artist with a stunning singing voice.  But if you see his face you can't help but laugh,  he can make the funniest expressions and pulled a few pranks on stage....naughty boy!

But nothing can compare to the other lead character (Franna Benade) - who is a gospel artist but also a fulltime farmer.  He has a majestic voice!  He played the Bishop - who has a change of heart and in the end is burnt at the stake....but I think he looked way cool in shades!

Two of the other leads (Jolette Odendaal) (playing the pheasant girl) a cabaret artist with a stunning strong voice and (Anrich Herbst)(playing the travelling monk) who is a local TV soap actor and voice artist - attempted his first stage performance to critical acclaim.  I think he should record an album or 2 - he sings exceptionally well.  these 2 are soooooo professional but yet down to earth!

And what is a musical without a love story or two - even though forbidden love?

During intermission we normally sat in the corridors as the airconditioners weren't working too well in the dressing rooms and it was very hot outside - and here we sit in winter garb.  As you can see - jokes abounded...this was probably one (Rouel Beukes) (standing in the door)- playing the Cardinal - told....he is a well known opera singer.  But don't let that fool you - what a prankster!

And then there were those who converted their costumes to suit the climate.  Lujeanne is a lovely dancer - hence the legs....and Nicolas is a popular boy band member - who sings like an angel and has the sweetest nature ever!

Yes and we did do some work as well - acted!  In the centre is the Director of the show and a dear friend - the very talented Renier Keyser!

    Wushu - Nan Quan Seminar.

I also attended parts of the Nan Quan Seminar the SA Wushu Federation held at our club.  I couldn't participate due to my commitments at the theatre but took some pics whenever I could.

Byron Jacobs on the board of the SA Wushu Federation was leading the seminar....here the basics of Nan Quan!

And the rest had to follow.....look at my little boy - with the sleeveless vest! awh proud Mommy I am!

Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees KKNK - National arts festival held annually in Oudtshoorn.

I needed a break and we travelled 4 hours into the Karoo (small desert) to the national arts festival held there annually. This is a dirt road we took through beautiful mountain terrain.

As we are not party people with the masses - we stayed on a farm 30km out of town.  We "ruffed" it - stayed in our little tent on a small hill overlooking the Little Karoo (small desert).  No electricity and no hot water...I must mention - I was very happy!   We made food on an open fire....to much delight of the children.  The landscape is so unspoilt at night you can see a million stars,  hear surrounding animal noises and smell the earth!

Popular things to do in Oudtshoorn - is to visit an ostrich farm or the Cango Caves - which the kids did with Dad whilst I was watching a Cabaret show in town.

Local farm food is an open fire "griddle bread" or Roosterkoek...it is bread dough grilled on an open fire and you fill it with anything you wish.  Normally - cheese and apricot jam,  "boerewors" - a type of minced meat sausage - yummy or even curry minced meat.

Oh and I forgot to mention that Hubby - standing centre and my brother to his right - managed to catch - that big ONE!  My freezer is FULL of Tuna fish - any recipes?

    SPORT:

We drove on another 4hrs to Port Elizabeth where our family lives.

I took this picture for Gogi - as he wanted to know how crowded our beaches were....does this answer the question?

The Soccer 2010 world cup event is being held in South Africa - and Port Elizabeth and the Nelson Mandela Bay area is also hosting the event.

I took some pics of the stadium being built currently - because of my profession and interest in structures.  Well i don't like this design - it's a bit "foreign" and looks more like a Lotus flower or Pavlova...sorry - !

The Indian Premier (Cricket) League was launched in Cape Town this past week.  My interest of course was the Bollywood Actors who flooded the city.

I got the pics from News 24.....

Notice the Cape Minstral Band (Cape Malayan Culture ) in front of the procession - and also the Election campaign posters on the lamp posts as we are having an Election next week...oh did someone mention that?

I was more interested in the man with the thumbs up - on this bus....do you know who he is?

off course it's my favourite Bollywood smarty!

    Shahrukh Khan - sigh!

He was also joined by Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta! now all of them are promoting their own cricket team....and why the launch in South Africa.....I don't care...It's better than politics!
