  • We Will Rock You GALA

    On Sat, the 17th, I was invited to attend the Gala of "We Will Rock You".  I'm lucky enough to have a friend, Stanley Shen, who works for OOCL..and usually, when a show comes to HK they are one of the main sponsors...so, every time there is a show, I'll be invited.  It's great since I LOVE watching shows!  I have to admit, it wasn't what I thought it would be....well, the songs were great and the singers were great!  But...hmm I don't want to say too much because I don't want to offend anyone....
    but....at the after party I was able to meet Ben Elton (the writer), Roger Taylor (original Queen drummer), and Mic (one of the contestants who was on that INXS band competition and was the lead for the show).  I'm writing these all out in case some of you are like me...and I had no clue who they were!!!  Anyways...ck out the photos I took with them!

    但是我不得不說,不是我想像的那麼精彩....當然,裡面的歌曲非常動聽,歌手也唱得非常好,但是...hmm我不想說太多來影響到任何人....
    不過....在首演禮後的宴會上,我見到了編劇Ben Elton
    ,還有 Roger Taylor(Queen drummer的原唱)以及  Mic (one
    of the contestants who was on that INXS band
    competition and was the lead for the show)。
    我之所以會寫的那麼清楚,是因為我擔心有人會像我一樣,搞不清楚誰是誰,我這裡把那天的照片和大家分享

  • Bad Boy Seth

    I've really been missing my dog, Seth.  He's currently in SF with my sister, Jen.  I decided that the best thing for him now would be to stay with her since I'd be traveling too much this year.  It's really hard to see other dogs and not have him with me.  I see his breed everywhere now.  He used to be the only one...and then suddenly it became "trendy" to have that type of dog...which I think is really lame since dogs are not bags or clothes.  Seth just turned 5, so he's been around for awhile...and I must say, no toy poodle is as cute as him...I'm kind of stuck up when I see other toy poodles...that's the first thing I notice...Seth is way cuter! 
    During this trip back to HK, people are constantly asking me where he is and it just makes me miss him more.  I used to take him around with me everywhere...I'd put him in his little bag and he'd be so quiet that I'd be able to take him into a 5 star hotel...or go watch a movie and nobody would realize it.  Last night, I was going through my photos of him when I came across this video I took of him when we first moved to Shanghai.  He doesn't like being home alone..and sometimes he'll purposely leave me presents just to let me know....

    牠現在住在舊金山我二姐珍珍家。因為我今年得到處工作
    ,只有留在我二姐那兒牠可以安定下來。但是每當我看見別人家的小狗,我就會很難接受Seth不在我身邊的事實。
    我剛領養Seth的時候,還沒什麼人養這一類的狗,突然現在滿街到處都可以見到這種貴婦狗...真是不可思議,狗又不是衣服或則手袋。
    Seth剛滿五歲,我養牠也好一陣子了,我一定要告訴你,沒有一只貴婦狗會像牠那麼可愛的...每當我看見別人的貴婦狗的時候,我這個念頭就起了I!
    我這次回香港每碰到一個熟人都會問我,讓我更思念牠了,因為以前在香港時,不管到那兒我都會帶著牠...我把牠放在一個袋袋裡,牠好乖好安靜,我可以把牠帶到五星級酒店...甚至於帶牠去看場電影都沒人知道。
    昨天晚上我在那兒整理Seth的照片,我看到了一段我們剛到上海時為牠拍的一段影片。牠不喜歡我們把牠一個人放在家裡,所以牠會”做壞事“來表示牠反抗

  • MOTHER'S DAY & Hainanese Chicken

    Ok, I think I’ve already ended my search for the best Hainanese Chicken and Rice.  I’ve gone to a few suggested places that some friends have personally taken me to.  One’s in Wan Chai, Central, Mong Kok, and Ho Man Tin.  Many of them were pretty good and they were cheap and efficient.  And I’m VERY thankful for my friends for taking the time to eat the same thing over and over with me ☺…sometimes 2 places in one go….and the company, of course!

    But….nothing can compare to home cooked Hainanese Chicken!  And the Rice is the BEST part!  I realized that there are 2 types of rice for this dish.  One is more of a yellow colored rice…..which is stickier and softer but not as flavorful.  The other type, which I personally like better, is a browner rice that has this chewy texture to it and it’s amazing!!!  Thank goodness  I have such a great friend  (FYI, Berry Good Tracie)  who is Singaporean and she handed me this recipe.  I had it for the first time at her place….

    And now for the true test…..Thursday, I decided to celebrate Mother’s Day with my Godmother (also, my mother’s sister, my aunt, and manager).  Usually, I love to make things for people as their gift because I feel that it’s more personal….I have always loved baking for people…..and now I have a new found love for cooking.  And it’s always more fun to cook for someone you care about.   It might be because I love food so much that I feel that preparing it is such a personal and intimate experience….I mean, it is you who cooked it….so, they HAVE to say it’s good!  I topped off her Mother’s Day with flowers (not the usual boring roses…which my sisters and I have grown to despise because of certain childhood experiences) and a personal card…which I love to give to my Godmother because she always cries when she reads my cards.  Hahaha…

    Unfortunately, this year, my mother is in Beijing judging that Jackie Chan Kung Fu game show thing.  So, I won’t be able to celebrate with her…But, my mom was never really into lavish gifts.  Her favorite gifts are the ones that I make…well…guess, I can only send a card.  But, somehow, I feel that my celebration with my Godmother  will make my mom feel like she celebrated with me as well….Happy Mother’s Day Mommies!!!






    現在我想我已經結束考察“海南雞飯”了,
    我的朋友們陪我去了好幾個別人建議的餐館,有在灣仔的,中環的
    ,旺角的,跟何文田,都是又快又好又便宜的,我非常感謝我的這些朋友花那麼多的時間,一次又一次陪我去吃同樣的東西
    ☺…為了比較….有時會同時去兩家餐館。
    但是….怎麼說都無法和自己家裡煮的比,尤其是“飯”,我發現可以用兩種不同的米來煮“海南雞飯”,一種是日本米,比較軟比較黏,但是並不是那麼入味,我個人比較喜歡另一種米,那就是紅米,比較有嚼頭,那種感覺特別好
    。這裡我要特別感謝我的好朋友 (FYI, Berry Good Tracie)
    ,她是星加坡人,是她給我“海南雞飯”的食譜的,第一次我是在她的那兒試做的….

    那是在星期二,我幫我的乾媽,她也是我媽媽的妹妹,我的阿姨,同時也是我的經理人慶祝“母情節”。通常我喜歡親手做禮物送給親友,….
    我常常會烤點什麼送人…..現在我有新花樣了,我可以煮東西了。能為你關心的人煮東西是件很愉快的事。或許是因為我自己很愛吃,覺得當你準備材料煮的時候,那種感覺特別好….事因為我親手下廚的….
    他們不得不說“好吃”。我另外還送了乾媽鮮花
    (通常我不會送玫瑰…在童年我和我姊姊,對玫瑰花有過很不愉快的經歷)
    還有一張母親節卡片…我特別喜歡看我乾媽讀我寫的卡片感動流淚的樣子,哈哈哈


    很遺憾,我母親在北京擔任成龍[龍的傳人]的評委,所以今年我無法跟她在一塊過母親節
    …但是,我母親她從來不在意我們送她什麼禮物,她最喜歡的禮物是我們親手做的…或許我只能寄一張卡片給她,但是我覺得我跟我乾媽過母親節就像是跟她慶祝一樣

  • BERRY GOOD OPENS FOR BUSINESS

    Ok everyone!!!  I just wanted to let you know that Tracie's frozen yogurt shop, Berry Good, is opening for business tomorrow, Wednesday the 7th!!!  They open at 11am till 11pm.  So, please support her shop and go buy your first taste!!!  The address is 41-43 Graham St. at Hollywood.  It's right near the Pacific Coffee.  It's really yummy!!!  See you there! 


    Here's one of the owners...Tracie.  If anything...go because she's hot! 

  • Hainanese Chicken Crazy

    Some people know that I was a vegetarian for the first 7 years of living in Hong Kong.  Well, in July it will mark the 2nd year that I have converted back into a carnivore...which leads me to the point of this blog....
    Recently, I discovered that I'm in love with Hainanese chicken and rice.  I don't know what it is...maybe it's the rice...I just have this obsession for it.  It  started when I tasted some of my aunts food one day.....and then....it was all over! 
    The spree began a week ago when I had my first cravings.  That day I was in Central with my sister and I asked around to find out the closest place to satisfy my needs.  And everyone suggested "Choi Hua" on Wellington St.  I was extremely famished...so, I don't know if my critique will be a little bias.  The food itself was very quick....only took about 1 min after I ordered...which kind of makes me question.....how long has it actually been sitting there?  Oh well....don't really want to think about that...plus, it's great for when you're pressed for time or in my case, starving!  So..here is how it will work.  I will give points for taste, efficiency, quality/freshness, presentation/atmosphere, and state the price.

    So, after I went on my first Hainanese Chicken run, I decided that I would search high and low throughout HK and rate the places that I go to. 

    The next stop was the coffee shop in the old Mandarin Oriental, Central.  Yes, a little high class for this dish...but, it was a very nice experience because it was such a nice place to have dinner with a close friend....and relax.  I think the highlight of this place was their presentation, the rice because it was light but had a lot of fragrance...and the chicken was very good quality....the soup is also very nice....but, a little too pricey for my taste....

    The 3rd place I went to was at the cafe in the Luk Kwok Hotel, Wan Chai.  This one is quite good because it was the same one that I tasted when my aunt let me try my first taste.

    So..that is it for my Hainan Chicken Critiques....I went to one yesterday but I'll have to write on that one next time....and there are still many suggested places that I have to go visit.  Next time, I'll have photos too!

    了,實際上到今年七月,我已經開葷了兩年,這跟我今天博客想寫的內容有點關係....

    因為最近我發現自己愛上了海南雞飯...或許是那個飯的味道...我幾乎著迷了。

    事情是這樣的,有一天,我和我乾媽一起吃飯,她點了海南雞飯,還讓我試了一口.....然後就因為這一口....我就給迷上了。
      一星期前我準備到處去試吃海南雞飯,
    那天我和我姊姊在中環,我到處打聽附近有沒有海南雞飯,每個人都建議我去威靈頓的[翠華],其實那天我實在是很餓...所以,我不知道我的鑑定會不會有偏見。食物來得很快
    ....我才點完菜一分鐘就來了...我想糟糕,這雞不知道已經做好了放在那兒有多久了,但是....我也顧不了那麼多了...再說,如果是像我當時那麼餓,又沒有時間等,來得快也不是一件壞事,所以..我決定會從味道,速度,東西新不新鮮,餐廳的環境,上盤的擺設,以及價錢等這幾項來給吃過的海南雞飯評分。

    經過那次以後我還真的決定在香港作一個[海南雞飯]的調查,並且去過的每一個地方,都作一個評分



    接著我去了中環舊的那間文華酒店的咖啡廳,我知道在這兒吃海南雞飯太高級了一點...但是,不可否認這是一次非常美妙的經驗,如果你想和三兩知己共度晚餐,這是一個很舒適的地方....能讓你完全放鬆,所以我想這兒的最高分是感覺,至於海南雞飯,飯很香而且不油膩,他們用的雞是很好質量的雞,很新鮮....就連那碗湯也是非常美味....只是價錢是有點太貴了....
      所以我給它的評分如下:

    這間的海南雞飯不錯的,因為就是我第一次我和我乾媽去吃的那間
