shoes that screamed "Mai!"

Gloria brought me a pair of beautiful purple shoes as a gift from Malaysia.
She said when she saw them, they were screaming "Mai!" and had to get them for me.
I gave her 1000yen to avoid walking away from her.
We're not accustomed to the jinx but I believe it now.
Any other Chinese cultural superstitions that I may not be aware of?

Jaky's 1st birthday

It was Jaky's birthday yesterday!
We celebrated with a tiramisu (for dog).
A few weeks ago, I rented a car and drove to Yokohama to visit a dog's dining for his pre-birthday.
He got his own chair, his own plate, napkins and utensils, and a very nice water bowl.
Can you believe it?
Check out the dog food!
(liver and cabbage pasta, beef stroganoff, cheese cake, and cream puff)
Jaky's never sat with me on the same table, nor has ever eaten anything like this before, and so he wouldn't eat unless I tore everything in small bits and fed him from my hand.
He was like,
"Are you sure I can eat this? Are you sure this is for me? You won't get mad?"
being hesitant throuout the meal...I couldn't help but to laugh out loud.I thought it might have spoiled him hard core, but he was actually delighted to go back to normal dog food.

My spontaneous self craved for beef tongue, and took a one-day trip on the bullet train to Sendai to fulfill my apetite.
Actually, I had the weekend two-day shinkansen passes (which is way cheaper than getting a normal ticket) and had no plans to use it on the second day, but realized I might as well fully utilize it.
I asked Gina whose always willing to come along with my crazy last minute offer, and she loved the idea;)
we got wines and quiches at the Tokyo station and partied on the train:
Jaky loved his first time on the bullet train. He never barks so it's very easy to bring him along anywhere. (jfyi- dogs are only 270yen for a ride)
