This past weekend was Thanksgiving holiday for us. So my mom made a
feast of the turkey, with lots of veggies..the usual. My favourite is
baked sweet potato and the cranberry sauce, so i usually stack up on
those lol

.
There was no dessert, no pumpkin pie. My mom decided to skip it this
Thanksgiving, but no one really missed it since everyone was satisfied
and fell asleep 20mins after dinner.
Anyway, this Thanksgiving we were really blessed to have my old hamster
around. A week before Thanksgiving, Mr. Cloud became ill and wasn't
his usual playful self. For two nights he didn't want to come out to
play, and i noticed that he had difficulties urinating. At first I
thought it was a bladder infection, but when i saw him get up for food,
i also noticed he was limping! I was very fortunate that my mom was
understanding. She helped me take him to the vet and it turned out to
be a tumour growing in his testicles that was causing all this! Well,
the vet gave us the option of giving him meds to ease his pain, or he
could undergo surgery to have it removed. She also advised us of all
the obstacles he'd have to overcome due to his size and age (2yrs):
1. He may not wake up from anestetics.
2. Hamsters are usually very sentivitiy to painkillers and antibiotics, could be side effects
3. The operation could be a shock to his system, and he may not recover or survive.
There were 2 vets in the clinic that looked at Mr. Cloud and what i
noticed them saying was "that he's a good age". Not once, but 3 or 4
times they said this, "he's a good age". Good age for what? to die?!
Well, i didn't say that but it was really emotional making the
decision. My mom agreed with me to have him undergo surgery and she
said "it's the fact that we tried, that is important". Well, when we
went back to the clinic the following day after his surgery, i was
really afraid to go in not knowing what the outcome was. But sitting in
the car made me feel like a coward. So i went in and vet told us that
they had just finished the operation an hour ago. Mr. Cloud was just
starting to wake up!

I was so happy that it was successful, but again, the vet said to be optomistic with caution (which i understood).
So it's been 5 days since he came home from the vet. Only 1 day after
his operation, he was eager to come out of his cage. So we let him out
for a free run around the kitchen. I don't even know if he noticed that
he was missing his balls lol

.
He was having a good run! It never crossed my mind, but my mom said it
was ashame that we couldn't breed him. He is a very good hamster. Just
like his name, Mr. Cloud is a gentleman (or gentlehamster)!
This october would mark the 2yr anniversary of when i first got him as a pet. So that would make him at least 2 years old.
This is sort of an old picture of him. But his post-operation self
doesn't really look any different (minus the balls, not that any of us
would notice). He's still his old self.
While i was finishing up my final year in university, I left him at
home with my mom for a few months. Before i left, my mom jumped me with
a piece of paper towel, which she took to wipe my face with. I was
like, "what the heck are you doing?!" It was just a joke, but she said
that he would miss me, and as long as he'd have my scent, he wouldn't
forget me, or as she puts it "he wont forget his master" lol. So in
that picture is him with that piece of paper towel lol.
Anyway, what felt like years since i blogged was in fact, only a few months ago.
Thank you for reading my story and all the nice compliments i get on Mr. Cloud.
Take care everyone!
