    Support my family!

A little over a year ago, my brother-in-law, Christian, published a book of photographs from one of is early projects, "Sound Affects".  It took place during a two-year period of his life in the South, primarily Memphis.

Check it out the link below, which shows the pages of the book.  His site also contains the images from said project.

His book is sold in select stores, but ff you're interested, he's offering signed copies for $100, while the limited supply lasts.  Email to: info@christianpatterson.com.

Christian is currently represented by the Yancey Richardson Gallery (nyc), the Robert Koch Gallery (San Fran) and the Kaune, Sudendorf Contemporary (Cologne, Germany).

a few friends and i were walking through the Upper West Side, when my friend says, "Sweet!  Check out this tribute to MJ."

it took us a second to realize that this was a tribute to Justice Sotomayor.  in the full drawing, she's wearing a red robe, very MJ-esque, but there are law books behind her.....just to clarify things.

my buddy Google helped me pin down the actual tribute to MJ that the artist, Hani Shihada, had drawn a few blocks north of the Sotomayor one.  honestly, this one reminds me of Erik Estrada instead.

  • falcon!

    Friday, Aug 21, 2009 10:45AM / Standard Entry

The other day, I was headed home and saw a few people huddled by the side of my work building.  When I got closer, I saw that there was a large bird (I'm guessing falcon) by our loading docks with some red guts hanging from its beak.

Oh...looky there!  It's feasted on a pigeon!  Thank you Mr. Falcon!

(I feel bad for the custodial staff who had to clean that up.)

The bird lingered around for a few more minutes because it had a broken leg (the one's that's tagged).  Eventually, it was able to fly off (though it flew fairly low) into an area with more trees.

I've heard of the famous Central Park falcons and now there's news of a nest of baby falcons in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.  I wonder where this one came from?

  • vampires, witches and weres...oh my!

My friend turned me on to the perfect book series for the summer:  the Sookie Stackouse books, aka the "True Blood" books, by Charlaine Harris.

There's a little bit of romance (it can get raunchy), comedy, action.  They make for a super fast, light read, perfect for the beach.  Most of all, Charlaine Harris sucks you into this world she's created.

I'm about halfway through the series and I've become so  immersed in this fictional setting and characters.  I start seeing every day objects, events and people as versions of the ones in the books.  I find myself looking at very pale people and wonder if vampires would look that pale in real life.  A hairy man prompts me to ask if the full moon near.  All red drinks now look like bottles of "True Blood" and was that five-alarm fire REALLY caused by poor electrical wiring?

    you get my drift.

I've been thinking about watching HBO's take on the series.  I've seen clips and tidbits on youtube and one reason to watch is foine-ness that is Alexander Skarsgard.

But, despite the eye candy, I fear falling further into the rabbit hole.

  • girlie skin stuff and songs du jour

    Tuesday, Jul 28, 2009 12:16PM / Standard Entry

    hello world....

i'm totally loviing my new face cleanser from Cosmedicine, called "Healthy Cleanse".  It's a dual-phase cleanser + toner.  It even removes my waterproof eye-makeup, but is as gentle Cetaphil.  The full retail value is $25-30 for a 4oz bottle, which seems like a lot, but you actually don't use much.  Plus, it's on sale at Sephora for $8!!!  i loved it so much I went back the next day and bought two more at the sale price.  good stuff.

i'm also really excited about using ASPRIN to treat pimples.  somehow i came across various youtube vids on asprin masks and decided to give it a go.  basically, asprin is a form of salicylic acid, which is in many cosmedic products (i'm allergic to benzoyl peroxide).
so far, i've only used it as a spot treatment on my zits.  dissolve some asprin in a tad of water to make a paste.  apply to skin and let sit for 15min.  rinse.  there's no stinging or tightening of the skin afterwards.  i tried it for two days on some up-and-coming zits and "ripe" ones.  by day three, all were reduced to nothing.  there was no breakage of skin, no crusting.  i'm happy.

    and....

    the songs du jour:
Ellie Goulding - The Wolves (Bon Iver cover).

somehow, I'm reminded of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work", a truly beautiful song that's affective because of its sheer simplicity.
