  • BE SOMEBODY! (ya heard me?)

i love how wiki and youtube can lead you on some strange paths to find some really amazingly fun bits of history.

like this one:  Mr. T's "Be Somebody (or Be Somebody's Fool)".  Mr. T made a motivational video for kids and here's the intro to it where he raps and even attempts some breakdancing.

you cannot deny the awesomeness that was the 80's.....

a few friends and i were walking through the Upper West Side, when my friend says, "Sweet!  Check out this tribute to MJ."

it took us a second to realize that this was a tribute to Justice Sotomayor.  in the full drawing, she's wearing a red robe, very MJ-esque, but there are law books behind her.....just to clarify things.

my buddy Google helped me pin down the actual tribute to MJ that the artist, Hani Shihada, had drawn a few blocks north of the Sotomayor one.  honestly, this one reminds me of Erik Estrada instead.
  • falcon!

    Friday, Aug 21, 2009 10:45AM / Members only

The other day, I was headed home and saw a few people huddled by the side of my work building.  When I got closer, I saw that there was a large bird (I'm guessing falcon) by our loading docks with some red guts hanging from its beak.

Oh...looky there!  It's feasted on a pigeon!  Thank you Mr. Falcon!

(I feel bad for the custodial staff who had to clean that up.)

The bird lingered around for a few more minutes because it had a broken leg (the one's that's tagged).  Eventually, it was able to fly off (though it flew fairly low) into an area with more trees.

I've heard of the famous Central Park falcons and now there's news of a nest of baby falcons in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.  I wonder where this one came from?

P&P&zombies. It was a little dry reading. The slightly funny bits were where the author injected the zombie episodes. It's safe to say you're not gonna read it, right? Spoiler ------> Elizabeth Bennet pulls out the heart of a ninja she's just killed and takes a bite out of it....in front of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. The ninjas belong to LCDB as bodyguards....but she's a mean zombie slayer herself. Crazy, huh? :P Want more details, lemme know.

I know what you mean. Some books where there's a character straddling 2 cultures really go into the Asian-outsider shtick rather heavily. haha. I guess it depends on your tolerance level - Free Food for Millionaires wasn't all about the Asian-not Asian/Amer-enough phenomenon too zestily.

I agree about frog legs - not enough meat on them bones! haha. I'm not that wild about the dish because of that.

Glee's girl is sick. Is that good? haha. I need to catch up on my Samantha Who online. Will peek in on Glee if I get the chance. Is tonight Glee night?

It's illegal to rent out rooms over there? I know landlords may not like you doing that to their units but....what can they do? There's airbnb.com and that's where the thought occurred to me that there may be a cheaper alternative when visiting nyc. I doubt hubby would go for it tho - who knows who to trust?

Glad to see you back. I was wondering what had happened to you. Well since I missed the fest last year I had to make an effort to go this year. I couldn't get over how crowded it was.

Hi Luna! Glad to know you're still around. I've been watching people drop away like flies these last few months. =\ Wondering if I'll be stranded here sooner or later. lol. Hope you have a great week!

Girl what you said is so true and I've been there too. As ladies, we really need to protect ourselves. I actually called a guy out on the train once cause he grabbed my friend's butt. He actually got pretty embarrassed. I don't see where people think they have a right. And I also HATE it when men sit with their legs open too. It's so rude.

I've tried the torso twist before and also standing to the side or sticking a foot out behind me. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

And I've already resigned myself to the fact that Asian peeps have absolutely no concept or regard for personal space or queuing so I don't really get bothered in Chinatown anymore.

Can you believe the last time I stepped foot into an American Apparel had to be like 2 years ago. I didn't even know they had hosiery. I saw some cute tights at Topshop last week but didn't feel like giving them my money. Have you been? Totally over hyped and way expensive for Forever 21 quality.
