  • What was that... a SFIAAFF?

    Saturday, Apr 26, 2008 3:05PM / Members only

Hello I am back again! Since my entry, so much has been happening:

    1) The birth of my baby boy in February 2008!

    2) Working as the Marketing Coordinator for the 26th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (aka SFIAAFF)- March 13-23.

With the festival now over, I can look back and say that working for the film festival has been one of the most rewarding experiences ever. Of course, the reward was much more greater, especially since my son was born while preparing for the film festival.

I've been a longtime attendee and supporter of SFIAAFF since 2000 and to work for SFIAAFF was literally a dream come true. I've met great folks in the community, worked with a terrific staff, and met inspiring filmmakers. If you're a festival-goer yourself, I highly recommend working for the festival one time. Even as a volunteer! You won't regret it! Check out some of my photos here on my profile or go to the Center for Asian American Media website for photos and videos from the festival!

  • Komikero.com

    Thursday, Nov 8, 2007 12:35PM / Members only

Though I haven't been consistently my "Alive not Dead" page like most other users, I still frequent the site for up-to-date news on our indie artists domestic and abroad. Here's an indie site I'd love to share, especially for comic book fans and readers. Komikero.com is the official site for Filipino comic artist, writer, creator, and historian Gerry Alanguilan (Superman: Birthright). Gerry is an amazing talent. The picture above is from Gerry's current title, Elmer. Most of all, he has a passion for history... History of Filipino comics and artists. Filipinos have contributed to the world of comic books for over 75 years. Many of today's hot comic book artists are Filipinos- like Whilce Portacio, Leinil Francis Yu, Philip Tan, and Edgar Tadeo.

Drop by Komikero.com for some great trivia and visuals. Lots of links, especially Gerry's online journal which is updated frequently.

  • Had to step out for a minute...

    Friday, Sep 21, 2007 3:09AM / Members only

Yikes I feel bad for not updating my profile recently- I actually took some time off of the computer and all the digital media stress that's been happening in the past couple of months. Don't get me wrong... I really love this site!

If you're wondering why I lack a number of friends- it's because I'm only on here to keep posted on news and postings from favorite independent artists and filmmakers from HK and beyond, plus share some random stuff and events from here in the Bay Area. (Plus I'm too shy to ask you to be my friend). Regardless, I'm totally open to accepting Friend invites. And thank you all for the awesome comments (for my daughter... haha).
    =========

Speaking of "independent artists," here's one I'd like to pass on to you. From here in the Bay Area are a long time independent Hip-Hop duo (both of Asian descent) called Himalayan Project. Their 3rd album, Broken World has just been released. Now if you're totally into the political, social, and identity conscious vibe, I recommend HP. Beats are totally fresh and complimentary to HP's witty and rapid lyricism. But really... for any Hip-Hop fan who digs on lyrical content, HP is worth a listen.

  • Fiesta Filipina 2007

    Saturday, Jun 23, 2007 12:17PM / Members only

Last weekend from June 16-17, Fiesta Filipina took place at the Civic Center in San Francisco. Fiesta is an annual celebration of the Philippine Arts, Music, Culture, and Community. Oh yeah, Food also. haha. In addition, it is a celebration of Philippine Independence (from colonization), which is really June 12th. Tens of thousands attend this outdoor festivity every year. Local and even International acts grace the main stage.

I was real happy to see one of my favorite bands this year at Fiesta-- BAMBOO! Bamboo is considered by many as the number one rock band in the Philippines. Frontman Bamboo Manalac (former member of Rivermaya) has awesome vocals and the band knows how to rock a show!

To those of you who are new to Philippine artists, I recommend taking a look at Bamboo. Their current CD is titled "We Stand Alone Together." And if you're ever in the San Francisco area next June, please stop by Fiesta Filipina. Mabuhay!

    Bamboo Manalac of Bamboo!

  • I still believe... in next season!

    Thursday, May 17, 2007 1:46AM / Members only

Since March, I have never felt so proud to be a Golden State Warriors fan (since 1991). To see them back in the playoffs in over 13 years and beating the number one Dallas Mavs in round one is practically a dream come true. The Jazz in round two was tough and many expected that already. Overall, the better team won and I have no bitterness about losing to the Jazz.

Hey, who expected the Warriors to come back strong at the end of the regular season?! Many did. So for next year, I'm looking at a playoff bound team again. Enjoy the photo of Baron Davis' monster dunk over Kirilienko in Game 3.

    GO WARRIORS!

    I must break you!

Hey, lumpia is good. Is that your nickname for your daughter too ? If yes, very creative. My nephews names/nicknames is Anton, Angelo and Pio. I sometimes call Anton my Buko pie, but he does not like it so much anymore because he's already 6 years old. :)
