  • Jackie Chan's new movie (Shinjuku Incident) deemed too violent for China

    Wednesday, Feb 18, 2009 3:04PM / Standard Entry

Jackie Chan's new movie has been deemed too violent for China.

The family-friendly kung fu superstar's latest action pic, Shinjuku Incident, is being kept out of theaters because the film's director Derek Yee didn't want to make the edits that were required to pass censors.

"We tried to cut the violent scenes to meet the requirements of the Chinese market, but producers I invited to watch that version thought it was incomplete," he told the Associated Press. China does not have a film ratings system, therefore every film released in the country is designated for all audiences.

Chan stars as a mob hitman; the film features scenes "that show characters getting a hand chopped off and pierced with knives."

The film will still be released in other parts of Asia later this spring.

  • Crazy Passenger at HK Airport

    Monday, Feb 16, 2009 10:24PM / Standard Entry

HONG KONG (AFP) - - A video of a hysterical passenger screaming at airline staff and writhing on the floor after missing a flight at Hong Kong airport has become a YouTube hit.

By Sunday, the three-minute clip of the furious woman had racked up close to 40,000 hits in three days on the video-sharing site.

The video starts with the screaming woman running towards the departure gate and bouncing off a female security guard, after she learned that her flight has been closed.

She then starts banging a desk before collapsing to the floor and rolling around, while maintaining a high-pitched wail.

A man unsuccessfully tries to comfort her and get her off the floor, but the shrill screaming continues.

The footage, entitled "A woman missed her flight at the boarding gate HKIA" appears to have been shot with a mobile phone from behind the staff desk.

The woman was travelling on a Cathay Pacific flight to San Francisco on February 4, a Cathay spokeswoman told AFP.

"All passenger doors had already been closed and the crew was preparing the flight for departure," she said.

"As the passengers had failed to show up on time, we had already offloaded their checked baggage to comply with the security requirements."

The spokeswoman said the woman had been able to take a flight a few hours later, adding passengers are always advised to arrive at the gate no later than 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

"We do not know who shot the video or who posted it on the web," she said.

  • Who is the father?

    Monday, Feb 16, 2009 10:40AM / Standard Entry

What a turn of event! Everyone seem to be fighting to be the baby's father. But do they know what are they getting themselves into???

    Baby-faced 13-year-old becomes father

A baby-faced 13-year-old British schoolboy has fathered a child with his 15-year-old girlfriend, making him one of the youngest parents ever in Britain, a report says.

Alfie Patten, whose voice has not yet broken, admitted he had not thought about how he and girlfriend Chantelle Steadman would support baby daughter Maisie Roxanne, as "I don't really get pocket money".

"When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble," said the teenager, pictured on the front page of The Sun tabloid with the baby, born in Eastbourne, southern England.

"We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react. I didn't know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it," he said.

But he admitted: "I didn't think about how we would afford it. I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me STG10 ($A21.91)."

Alfie's dad Dennis, 45, said his son - who looks younger than his age and is just 1.22 metres tall - was fully committed to his new paternal role.

"He could have shrugged his shoulders and sat at home on his Playstation. But he has been at the hospital every day," he said.

The baby, who weighed in at 3.27 kilograms (seven pounds, three ounces) when she was born on Monday, was conceived after just one night of unprotected sex, the paper said.

Alfie was 12 years old at the time.

In theory, police could have brought a prosecution for under-age sex, but they said they would not be pressing charges.

"Sussex Police child protection team were aware of a 14-year-old girl that had become pregnant as the result of a relationship with a 12-year-old boy," said a spokeswoman for Sussex Police.

"A joint agency investigation with East Sussex County Council Children's Services has taken place which has considered the needs of both individuals and there will be continued support for these two young people in the future."

I will take DNA test, says Alfie as two other teenagers claim they could be father

Alfie Patten has reportedly demanded a DNA test to prove he really is a father at age 13 after two other teenagers are said to have claimed they had slept with his girlfriend.

The schoolboy was described as another symbol of ‘broken Britain' after it emerged that he and Chantelle Steadman, 15, had parented baby Masie, born five days ago.

But today the scandal took another twist after it was claimed Richard Goodsell, 16, and Tyler Barker, 14, may have fathered the child.

And now baby-faced Alfie, who only looks eight years old, is understood to want a paternity test following advice from his father.

Dennis Patten, 45, who has eight children of his own and split with Alfie’s mother Nicola, 43, two years ago after being caught having an affair with a 19-year-old told The People: ‘A DNA test is the only way to settle this once and for all.

‘When Nicola told me he was going to be a dad, I said: “How do you know it’s his?”

‘I kept asking if he was sure because I thought a boy of his age wasn’t capable of conceiving.

And Alfie looks so much younger than 13. That’s the point of all this. He looks a little kid himself and it’s so shocking.’

Alfie has said he had sex with Chantelle just once.

But the News of the World reported that one of the boys named as a possible father, trainee chef Richard, told them: ‘I know I could be the father.

‘Only a DNA test is going to sort this out properly. If I am the father I have a right to know’

And schoolboy Tyler is also said to have told the same publication: ‘I slept with Chantelle in her bed about nine months ago and I’m really worried I could be the father.’

But Chantelle’s mother Penny, 38, dismissed the claims, saying: ‘It’s rubbish, Chantelle lost her virginity to Alfie.’

Yesterday Alfie, who is at the centre of a furious battle for interviews with five-figure sums reportedly being paid, arrived home at his mother’s £395,000 home in Hailsham, East Sussex, after spending the night at Chantelle’s parents’ council house in nearby Eastbourne.

Once indoors he gave a series of clipped answers to a long list of questions by an eager reporter from The People.

When asked if he loved Chantelle he said: ‘Dunno.

Did you get her a Valentine's card? ‘No!’

Did you know how babies were made before you had sex with Chantelle? ‘Course’.

Do you like changing the baby's nappies? ‘It's OK but getting it back in the clothes is hard - the arms are the worst bit.’

Are you looking forward to getting back to school soon? ‘No, school's dead boring.’

What are your favourite subjects? ‘Dunno. Haven't got any. Not maths.’

What would you like to do when you grow up? ‘Go in the Army, but Mum says she won't let me.’

The shocking case, which emerged five days ago with the birth of Masie Roxanne, weighing 7lb 3oz, has made headlines across the world.

It has sparked a tawdry battle by Alfie’s parents to share in the spoils after the story was revealed by his father Dennis, who yesterday wore a devil mask outside in a bid to avoid his face being seen.

It has also prompted a political row about Britain’s moral collapse.

Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith said: 'It exemplifies the point we have been making about broken Britain.

‘It's not being accusative, it's about pointing out the collapse in some parts of society of any sense of what's right and wrong.'

I love Alfie and he took my virginity. There has been nobody else

THE girlfriend of Alfie Patten yesterday rubbished claims the 13-year-old did not father her baby, insisting: “There has been no one else.”

Tearful schoolgirl Chantelle Steadman hit out as TWO other youngsters bragged THEY could be the dads of newborn Maisie.

Chantelle, 15, said as she was comforted by the pint-size schoolboy: “I love Alfie. I lost my virginity to him.

“We decided to start a physical relationship because we love each other. There has been no one else.

“He gets very jealous when I talk to other boys and I don’t like him talking to other girls.”

Alfie, who looks only eight and was just 12 when Chantelle told him she was pregnant, insisted about the claims: “Other stupid boys are lying.”

The teeny parents — whose story shocked Britain when it was exclusively revealed in The Sun — spoke out after Richard Goodsell, 16, and Tyler Barker, 14, each claimed they bedded Chantelle.

Both the lads live on the Old Town estate in Eastbourne, East Sussex, where Maisie was conceived.

Chantelle, who still wears school uniform, said: “Cruel things have been said but I am just trying to look after my baby and ignore them.”

    Besotted

She told how she was besotted with 4ft Alfie, declaring: “We share looking after Maisie and do everything together like husband and wife.

“He has looked after me so well. He has held my hand and rubbed my back.

“We can’t stand being away from each other. He gets upset when he is away from Maisie and me.”

Her mum Penny, 38, blasted the claims her daughter slept around as “horrible”.

She said: “I have never seen her so upset.

“To know that people are saying things like that about her is destroying her.”

She told how Chantelle’s room was tiny with a “very small bed that you wouldn’t really call a single”.

Penny said: “No one stayed over in it.”

She claimed the family had no idea Chantelle was even having sex with Alfie.

The mum said: “I spoke to them both one night and asked, ‘Are you sleeping together?’

“Their reply was, ‘No’. We had no reason not to believe them.

“I didn’t even know Chantelle was on the Pill.

“When I found out I was furious with our family doctor that he had not told me.”

A back room of the three-bed council house has now been converted into a bedroom for Chantelle and Maisie — who was yesterday surrounded by pink balloons and cuddly toys including a pink teddy.

A total of six children plus the baby live in the house — also home to two dogs, a cat and budgerigars.

Alfie lives with his family in nearby Hailsham — where his estranged dad Dennis, 45, yesterday turned up hiding his face behind a devil mask.

Alfie insisted: “I am the only boyfriend Chantelle’s had — and we’ve been together for two years.

    “I must be the dad.”

Vowing to take a DNA test to prove it, he declared: “When she found out she was having a baby, I asked her, ‘Am I the dad?’ She went, ‘Yeah’. So I believe her.

    Concern

“I didn’t know about DNA tests before — but mum explained it’s when they do a swab in your mouth and it tells you if you’re the dad.

“So, if I have that, they can all shut up. But I don’t really care what people say.”

Tyler Barker — the 14-year-old who claims Maisie is his — said: “It was routine for boys to stay over with Chantelle in her bed. But I only slept with her the once.”

Locals heard his gleeful brother Jake, 17, running up and down the street outside their council house after Maisie was born.

He was yelling: “My brother’s sh***** Chantelle. He could be the dad.”

Meanwhile trainee chef Richard Goodsell, 16, said he and Chantelle had sex at least three times.

The teenager, whose 35-year-old mother Barbie Jayne claims to have twice bared her soul on TV’s Trisha, insisted: “My friends tell me the baby has my eyes — even my mum thinks so.”

The boys said other teenagers on the estate could also be the father.

Eastbourne District Council, whose social workers are monitoring the under-age family, said: “Any birth to parents this young is a cause of great concern to us.”

But Chantelle’s mum scoffed: “No one has been to see Chantelle or Maisie since the birth.”

Close family friend Rob Burns, 27 — whose wife Olivia was Chantelle’s birthing partner — accused officials of not doing enough for the couple.

He said: “There is a baby stuck in the middle of all of this.

“The family are pulling together for Chantelle. But social services have offered no support.”
