  • going back to my childhood

    Wednesday, Oct 14, 2009 1:06PM / Members only

Discussion about Japanese anime/manga and manga arose quite a few time during the last 2 weeks and as a friend just posted a video that brought me back to my childhood on facebook I though I would do this entry. (as most of my stay is anyway related to dance it's not that interesting to blog about and I will probably just make one or 2 entries about the trip later)

So let's go through a few French themes for some well known anime (at least in France, as some like Saint Seiya seems kinda unknow to youngest Japanese).
If now most anime use the original Japanese songs that wasn't the case about 15 years ago when I was looking at those anime's on Wednesday afternoon/during the week-end.
Most of the times names were changed too

    Nicky Larson (City Hunter)

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlbEzMft6IY

    Some facts:
-Ryo Saeba is called Nicky Larson in French.
-All Host clubs, bars,... are referenced as vegetarian restaurants (so Shinjuku must be the place in the woirld with most vegetarian restaurants in the world )
-The bad guys only have 3 names: Robert, Roger and Raoul.

    Olive et Tom (Captain Tsubasa)

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcWzBiwsPy8&feature=related

Tsubasa is here called Olivier Aton
As for Tom it's actually the goalkeeper that actually  disappear quite fast and if I'm not mistaken doesn't appear that often.

Les chevaliers du Zodiaques (Saint Seiya) (1st theme)

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USiBtiqjM4o&feature=related

     Ranma 1/2

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAEh4bm-t94&feature=related

Ranma is the only one to keep is original name. Akane becomes Adeline,....

Bioman (super Sentai season whatever, if I'm not mistaken)
    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k42ZDTmu4oQ&feature=related

Theo ou la batte de la victoire (Touch)

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTnY8Dz3Aiw&feature=related

    Juliette, Je t'aime (Maison Ikkoku)

    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-98nh5Ejt4

And last (for this entry, but not least) Goldorak UFOロボ グレンダイザー

    first theme
    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOO3LgzXdYg&NR=1

    second theme

There are tons of others but I'm going to stop there

  • GAME☆ACTION Premiere

    Tuesday, Oct 6, 2009 12:10PM / Members only

As you may have noticed, I went to the premiere of GAME☆ACTION starring Sato Hiroko from AnD.

Thanks to JasmineT as well as Hiroko and her staff. I was able to join the press conference. Needless to say that it was a nice experience especially as we almost never have movie premiere with guests in Belgium

Then we went for a bite with JasmineT and one of her friends before going to see the movie itself.

I enjoyed the movie and hope it will make as many entrances as possible. I laughed a few time especially when the movie showed odd things you always see while playing video games :p.

As far as acting is concerned that was good too at least for the main cast.

Only part I didn't really enjoy were the short parts with the 2 dumb zombies that for me were breaking the rythm of the movie but except for that it was nice.

As far as Belgium is concerned, I would definitely see that movie at a movie festival like Brussels Fantastic Film Festival. It's not an American movie, nor a French movie so it would probably not work as a normal release (and even French movies are not that popular) but there is an audience for that kind of movie that usually goes to film festivals.

  • Tokyo - Day 2

    Thursday, Oct 1, 2009 11:23PM / Members only

Not much to say about today.

I went to Noa dance academy today too but the studio in Meguro-ku (not the one in Ikebukuro like yesterday).

Original plan was to go to Tatsuo's advanced class and then Hiro's beginner class.
Looking at the schedule I though it would be good to do one more class earlier (which I'm planning from next week anyway) so that I would start with a beginner class. But I was too late so I just walk around in Shibuya and then Meguro.

Tatsuo's class was a killer. It's been months since I've been to a house dance class and couldn't go further than the first few steps.
Class starts with some stretching followed by 10 dolphins (10 each leg, of course). For those who don't know (most of you I guess). The dolphin is a house move where you kinda do a (waved) pushup but with but with one leg up.

You can see Tatsuo, himself, doing it here.
    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNXSRJukRFI

Followed by crossing the studio with what I'll describe a bouncing duck walking :p
You can see what it is, here around 2:57
    Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQt5dxBXV0s

Then the class began. First exercise was ok. Then we start the real routine. And I'm quickly lost (unlike most other students). Same move with lots of variation first then some easy stuffs and end with lots of power moves.
That was an awesome class to get move to work on, ... but really difficult at the time as I was lost too quickly (unlike popping's advanced lesson which was OK most of the time, and I'm a house dancer not a popper).

Second class was Umeno's beginner class (as Hiro seems to be in Russia or something). That was a lot more easy and perfect to work on style (though it was a bit too crowded and I was more focusing on not hitting someone or the wall instead of looking at myself in the mirror)

  • Japan trip 2009 (I)

    Wednesday, Sep 30, 2009 11:44PM / Members only

So I left Belgium on last Monday September 29th.

First alert was actually on Friday as there was a Strike at he airport on Friday evening. Hopefully they didn't do it on Monday.

Second issue was that my plane to London had no electricity and the engineer that solved the issue had no right to sign the briefing sheet. Hopefully they sorted that in about 30 minutes so no big deals.

Flight from London to Tokyo went fine on the other hand.

As usual, I arrived around 6 pm at my hotel and just went for a bite and spent time looking at new CD releases.

Today, I went to my apartment.

Make all the needed stuff to be a student at the dance school I'm going to.
This required me to take 2 lessons today.

So I first took KITE's beginner class. KITE is at the moment probably the biggest name as far as popping goes (at least in France and probably in Japan).
Unfortunately, he was out of town, so the class was actually given by someone else.

Then I had to take a 2nd class. So I just took Fishboy's advanced popping class (with only 2 hour of popping before and some basis during hip hop lessons ). Still I really enjoyed and learned from it. Of course, I didn't had the level of the other guys but that wasn't worst than Wiggles' workshop in May.
For those of you who don't know Fishboy, he won the Juste Debout 2009 (popping) with KITE last March.

  • 嘘~!!! You're kidding right?

    Tuesday, Sep 1, 2009 7:26PM / Members only

I have contacted an agency to rent an apartment in Tokyo this October. This is the same agency as last year because it went pretty smoothly. I had already contacted them 2 months ago (saying that it was for holidays) and they said that it was too early. I again asked some question 2 weeks ago saying that I was not in Japan.
Then now they tell me that this time they need a certificate of residency. What?
Why didn't they said that earlier?

Now I've contacted the employee I had contact with last year, to see if he can help me and also contacted another agency.

Hope this will solve itself as quickly as possible. :(

certainly. Japanese enthusiastically celebrate Christmas, Valentine's Day, Halloween, and even Thanksgiving. Many enjoy these days as kinda festivals even though most of us are not Christians.
