films

Films I have recently watched:

Female Yakuza Tale starring Reiko Ike and directed by Tetsuo Ishii. Made in 1973, this film is described as a “landmark of Japanese pinky violence cinema.” I don’t know what this means and I will obviously have to look it up on wikipedia. I kept watching this film and wondering what I would make of it if I were a hot-blooded bloke. Maybe I would love it – it is full of naked woman having stuff inserted into their orifices and samurai violence. The final showdown is about 50 of the aforementioned ...Read more

Martial arts films

Martial Arts Films I have recently watched: The Bride with White Hair 2 starring Brigitte Lin and directed by David Wu and Ronnie Yu. By a weird coincidence I watched this film in much the same conditions as I watched the Bride with

White Hair about a year ago – reeling under the impact of some bad news which means that I watched these films at 2 am in the morning, slightly drunk and feeling so upset that I felt sick. As a result both these films passed before me in a sort of a...Read more

martial arts films

Martial Arts Films I have recently watched:

Duel to the Death (1993) starring Tsui Siu Keung, Lau Chong Yan, Flora Cheung and directed by Ching Siu Tung. To be completely honest, I sometimes find Ching Siu Tung’s choreography to be a little over dominated by wire fu (I am ambivalent about wire fu) but in this movie I thought that there was a nice balance between when (and why) folks were flying through the air and when they fought with their feet on the ground. This story features star crossed lovers and a couple of beetling browed...Read more

Happy Birthday

My nephew Shane turned 18 last week. My online friend Nicholas V blogs every day on various interesting topics (being an academic he is an avid gatherer and disseminator of all kinds of knowledge and culture). Nicholas’ blog on Shane’s birthday – April 23rd – was about St George because April 23rd is apparently Saint George’s day. If you would like to read this interesting blog it can be found here – http://nicholasjv.blogspot.com/

I mention this blog because various adject...Read more

About me: martial arts films

Martial Arts Films I have recently watched:

prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /

The Water Margin (Shaw Brothers) (1972) directed by Chang Cheh, starring (among many, many, many others) David Chiang and Tung Li.

This is a historic epic conceived on a scale that would have made Cecil B De Mille squeal with envy. Talk about a cast of 1000s – the credits for this film honestly keeps popping up until half way through the film.

Random thoughts while watching the film:Read more

Poetry Wednesday - 'Nefertiti rides me' from Dorothy Porter's 'Ahkenaten'.

Nefertiti rides me

Her cunt

slippery on

the hot skin

of my belly.

She’s sticky

with my glue –

that high stink

of seed!

My tongue

tastes her sap

a sweat-honey

shot with salt

still wild

in the corners of my

mouth.

I want to hold her

I want to lie still

but she’s not finished

her eyes are shut

her breath

word thursday - subvert

word thursday: subvertsubvert

I have chosen to blog about the word subvert today. I am brushing off an old performance piece called The Spencer Spanking Plan. With this piece I am taking an already existing manifesto and subverting it by delivering it through the mouthpiece of a character I play strictly for laughs.

The following info has been cut and pasted from the Merriam - Webster website:

rosemary

I bought some Rosemary to grow in a pot beside my door. I did this on the advice of my sister who told me that Rosemary growing beside the door keeps the fairies away.

Recently I have been sleep walking. I will 'come to' into full wakefulness in the middle of the night and realise that I am walking about my flat looking for something or someone. A few nights ago I surfaced into full conciousness and realised that I was standing at my open front door and inviting some figment of my imagination inside. Thank God I don't sleep naked...Read more

Song of Solomon Chapters 1 - 4

Chapter 1

The song of songs, which is Solomon's. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.

Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we wil...Read more
