    Help this girl!

Gao An-ni, an 8-year-old girl from the rural countryside in An Yuan county in East China's Jiangxi Province, suffers from a tumor in her underlip. An-ni was born with a tumor in her underlip, and she couldn't receive timely treatment for the poverty. On 2007, her father took her to see doctors at the Hospital affiliated with Gannan Medical College. But when doctors there told him that the operation to cure the tumor and the following cosmetic surgery might cost a lot for the family, the father decided to bring back his daughter to their hometown.

Where is this girl? Anyone know? We can do something to help her. The case is in the beginning. The cure must be cheap. This website could make a bank account to collect money to pay for the cure of this girl. I can donate, work the days that I can and make $ 50 per month to help. There are many artists here. It will be very difficult to create an account to help this girl?

People talk about AIDS, but people forget that these problems are common in poverty, but people do not want to look at the poor. Diseases related Poverty cause more pain, death and suffering.

that is very sad.  but, i would be wary of sending money anywhere ... there are a lot of scams on the internet and it's very possible that any money you send over won't actually ever go towards helping her.  hopefully people that actually know this girl will be able to gather support for her.

You said everything Marie Olaerts. You are very right.

There was a presenter in my country that put these people on television. The goal was to remove them from poverty and bring these people to "the house of people in town" and then find people to do a surgery. But a judge banned and now these people back into poverty, forgotten in a corner, away from the house of people.

Well, I think it is possible to find the girl. If it is bad, someone could create an account to raise money to pay the costs. (I think alivenotdead.com could do this because we trust in the directors of the website - and alivenotdead not need take a penny from the pocket =D ).

You are right. It is sad. I think people generally are discouraged... So many things in the world that would make our hearts cry if we stood to think about them. Really think. Like placing them next to your own door. It is confusing and they might feel they have to save the world... So people pretend not to see these things, shrugging it off as something they can not change or hoping someone else will do so in their stead. As long as they don't have to make a stand, people in general are filled to the brim with good intentions. When it comes down to actually doing something, changing someone's fate, you'll see the masses dwindle. Is it not said the road to hell is paved with good intentions of good people doing nothing?
We twist and reason and turn the facts against each other so many times that the only conclusion is that it is out of out hands. Let another take the stand. Let another change the world and they would cheer him on. from a distance. Of Course.

It is a sad truth. And I fear the alienation will get worse in years to come. People are getting detached from reality and as long they can stay at home and pity the world through the window of their TV screens, they will feel that their hollow empathy saves their soul and somehow eases the pain of the universe and they will leave the actual saving to others...

And yes, I have a dark outlook on people. There are exceptions, of course, but too few...

Maybe if it were an animal, a dog, many people have here. I'm ashamed to put this photo of the girl and people see, look and say "ohhh" and my blog looking like a window for people watching different things. Sad.

Good, Marie Jost. But I think that only we do something here. Where are others? They visit my profile. Why read and go away?

    Leandro,

In the case of Cuba, there was a war a civil war, and people had their property seized and were thrown in prison if they were not communists.  It was not a choice.  Cuba also hosted nuclear weapons, placed there by the old Soviet Union targeted at the US, which is only 90 miles away.  I still vaguely remember the Cuban Missal Crisis from when I was a small child and the world was very, very close to having a nuclear conflict.  The man behind the threat, Fidel Castro, is still the defacto military dictator of Cuba.  He and his brother still run a repressive police state that routinely jails dissidents who want more political and social freedom.  The dissident and criminal element that Cuba got tired of imprisoning at government expense, they put on boats and sent to the US in the early 1980s.  There are reasons that the US does not have friendly relations with Cuba.  You have to realize that all of the Cubans who fled Castro and came to the US are now American citizens, they vote and have strong political representation.  They don't want the US to have close ties with Cuba even more than the US government.

And, yes, Cuba has universal health coverage at a very basic level, but people are also hungry, living in poor conditions and have no hope that things will change while the Castros remain in power.  With the disappearance of the Soviet Union, Cuba lost its one great backer in the world.  Economically, the country is in terrible shape.  Chavez and Morales in way can replace the massive sums of money the former Soviet Union used to contribute to Cuba only because of its convenient location near the US.  We can only hope that the Cuban people will finally get a chance to decide for themselves their own political and economic fate once the Castros are gone.

I found it strange that the link (the worst tumors), many cases Chinese (well, if there are a billion people in china, so the majority of cases have to be there - because there are more people). But the worst case (Jose Mestre) is a person living in Portugal (a rich country). Of these cases, the Chinese government not only helped the girl (apparently I do not know, Francis Ko tries to find the girl). Then we go to another more serious case: a lack of resources in third world countries. There is wealth in the United States and England for a surgery. But rich countries do not allow poor countries grow (President Obama can do a protectionism that will end with many poor countries). I think that China is growing and in fifty years the country will have a strong structure of health. Now you think: If China does not have a good health system to grow 10% a year, then what happens to the countries of Africa? How long they will have a good health system that does not depend from abroad/foreigners?  In Africa the "noma" is terrible. But I do not see any government helping the African  government (only when there is war).

So people rely on people like you, me, Francis Ko. (in my country there are so many cases, but people live so far away that remain hidden).

    Noma photos: http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/content/image_galleries/yorkslincs_ethiopia_s12_w9_gallery.shtml?10

    Terrible, terrible.

Now you see it as a funny thing: In the Cuba health system is perfect! But people just do not like this. It is a strange thing that people prefer to be able to buy things than a good health system. I bet they traded the health system for the opportunity to have a new car. It is human nature.

Moreover, a question: Why has a blockade against Cuba? The country has never attacked anyone! Why do people respect this lock?

There are plastic surgeons from the US and Europe that take a portable operating theater with them into third world countries and operate on the children there.  But, of course, the need is much greater than their capacity.  Sadly, I seriously doubt the Chinese government would allow such charity work in China for the simple reason that it would demonstrate to the world what a poor underdeveloped country rural China is, and this is where the majority of Chinese still live.  China is very concerned with its image in the rest of the world these days and is not anxious for outsiders to know how hard life is for many Chinese.  They want us to see the middle-class who live in the cities, especially the young technocrats.  They don't want to showcase the rural poverty that is the reality for so many.
