“The work of art must seize upon you, wrap you up in itself and carry you away. It is the means by which the artist conveys his passion. It is the current which he puts forth, which sweeps you along in his passion. The pain passes, the beauty remains” said Renoir. There are multiple answers to the what, why, where, how, and when art occurs in our lives. However, the most simplistic way to understand art is to understand one word: reassurance.
We use art to reassure ourselves of our existents as human beings with the ability to change the world. We use art to provoke others to see the creativity within ourselves. We use art to reassure others that we have the power to change the world with our ideas applied to a medium. Whether that medium is paper or film, we use it to continue our existents. Without art, we are no better then the leaves on a tree.
On the other hand, we are the leaves in a tree swaying in the wind; the only difference being, we have the ability to ponder. If you comprise yourself in your thoughts, wrap yourself in them, and they will carry you away. The wind you create with your thoughts will sweep you away. No matter the pain, your thoughts will always continue to sore as long as there is someone else behind you. Art is life, living and continuing.
