Wow, sorry guys, I just saw the date of my last blog entry...14 months ago!  I'm afraid I just don't have the time or energy to devote to blogging/updating/etc. between all of the social networking sites I'm on...oh well...

Either way, not only am I working two jobs (still) and helping raise our two boys, I've finally embarked on recording my first studio album.  It will encompass about 26 or so never-before-heard (at least by modern ears) piano ragtime numbers published in the Greater Cincinnati area at the turn of the twentieth century.  All pieces are extremely rare, have never been recorded, and have been painstakingly culled from my humongous collection of over 400 ragtime pieces from Cincinnati that I've collected over the last eight years or so.  I've spent about 14 hours in the studio so far, and that's only for TWO pieces.  It's very tedious work, and my wrists and thumb tendons are paying a price.  But it's all for the greater good, preserving local and musical history (not to mention my playing).

I expect the recording to be done over the next few months and then the final disc, ready to be sold, in about a year or so.  Liner notes (which will require a lot of research), cover art, etc. all go into this project, something I've dreamed of doing for quite a while.  It's quite exciting, and very cool to hear pieces that haven't seen the light of day in over 100 years.  They sound as fresh and exciting today as they did when they were initially rolled off the press.

    More to come!

This sounds terrifically interesting. I like the sound of tunes from genres past, e.g. baroque and renaissance seem to capture my ears. Looking forward to hearing your music.

Wow...that's a lot of time in the studio for 2 songs!!!  If you ever get the time, I'd love to hear about your experiences in the studio (for those of us who'll probably never see what happens in a studio during recording).

I am so excited for you, Jeremy!  Plus, I'm excited for me because I would love to be able to purchase your new CD when it's available!  As I've mentioned before, ragtime has always been one of my first music loves, probably inspired by the movie, "The Sting," which came out about the time I turned 10 or so.  Rare ragtime recordings (how's that!) would be an excellent way to make sure that music history is never forgotten.

    =)
