The State of Sarawak, known for its mighty rivers, rainforest, multi ethnic
people and culture, will soon have another icon with the start of construction
of the 39 storey, Kuching Tower.
Set to be the tallest building in Sarawak, the Kuching Tower will house an
office building and luxury hotel. "The Kuching Tower would give a new identity
to the State capital as well as serve as a symbolic driving force to help
realize the city's full economic potential," said the Chief Minister of Sarawak,
Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, at the Ground breaking ceremony performed here
"As the tallest building in Sarawak, the Kuching Tower is a landmark for the
people of Kuching and Sarawak. It will be a reference point for our tourists and
visitors. If you are lost, you would only need to look for the Kuching Tower to
know where you are", added Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.
The Ground breaking ceremony of the RM300 million state of the art building
was performed by the Chief Minister of Sarawak at a site located on the Kuching
Isthmus, just east of Kuching City Centre.
Kuching Isthmus is part of the Kuching City Expansion Plan, which is in line

The Kuching Tower forms part of an integrated development plan by
conglomerate Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) Group for the 240 acre Kuching Isthmus.
Other developments include the new Sarawak Convention Exhibition Centre, a park
and yachting marina. In addition to current road access, river bus services will
shuttle the public and visitors to and from Kuching city centre.
According to CMS Group Deputy Chairman, Haji Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the
construction of Kuching Tower is to support the State Government's initiative to
build a fully integrated convention centre in Sarawak in order to tap on the
lucrative Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, or more popularly
known as MICE, industry.
The world class, fully integrated, state of the art, multi purpose and
flexible Sarawak Conventin Exhibition Centre will address the current "facility
gap" in Sarawak for suitable infrastructure and venues to hold events of various
capacity audiences and crowds. The purpose built convention centre will be large
enough to accommodate meetings of up to 1,500 delegates.
When complete, the new convention centre will provide international exposure
to showcase Sarawak as a choice destination for the MICE industry.
To be located within walking distance of the Sarawak Convention Exhibition
Centre is the office building and hotel of Kuching Tower which would support the
needs of delegates and visitors.
With its distinctive sails design, the Kuching Tower will soar 150 metres
high and provide commanding views of Kuching City, Sungai Sarawak, South China
Sea and surrounding areas.
The building's architectural design of sails reflects the importance of river
systems and the sea to the people of Sarawak. Designed to offer 4 star plus, 5
star plus, and Royal Suites, the hotel will provide discerning travelers with
rooms of exquisite dcor, exceptional dining facilities, and a high degree of

taking 360 degree views of the sea and surrounding areas.
Kuching Tower is owned by CMS Hotels Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Cahya Mata
Sarawak Berhad. Construction is expected to take three years.
The Chief Minister praised CMS Group for taking a bold move in development of
the Kuching Isthmus, a new area which would involve a huge capital outlay.
"The task to modernize should not

actual, along with through the actual fundamentalism expands as being a noxious
base. In case many of us take away fundamentalism along with preserve religion,
the other morning as well as yet another fundamentalism will certainly expand
yet again. I want to declare that will since a number of liberals often secure
Islam along with guilt fundamentalists pertaining to generating troubles.
Nevertheless Islam themselves oppresses girls.
