  • 10 years and still here breathing Hong Kong...it's in our hearts and pumps through our veins. We are a Hong Kong band and proud to be from this city. Then why do we always talk about problems here? Because we want our beautiful home to be the best it can be...nothing wrong with that.

  • Goodbye Queen's Pier...last night's show

    Sunday, Jul 1, 2007 1:11PM / Standard Entry

Last night we played a show at Queen's Pier...it was organized as a last stand for the doomed pier. No matter what people do, even the people who have been camping out at the pier since April, it's doomed. If you go to Queen's Pier now you'll see that the construction of all the harbor reclamation is already deep into their plans. Huge gigantic pipes have been laid...the pier itself is surrounded by a huge construction sites. The government has made it look like the Queen's Pier is "in the way" with the way construction of the destruction has gone ahead.

It's weird...every time something like this happens it's weird. I totally understand that not everyone in Hong Kong is so emotionally attached to things like this like I am or we are. To me it's just like something is digging out a piece of your heart every time they tear something this historic. This is my home - this is where I've lived my whole life...I grew up skateboarding between the old Star Ferry, City Hall and Queen's Pier...we used to skate at the black box in front of City Hall and we used to call it "black acid"...then when we were exhausted we'd go to the little noodle shop at queen's pier for drinks and food and sit and relax and watch happenings on the harbor...

You go there now and Star Ferry is totally gone - there isn't even a hint that anything existed there...

The show last night was pretty cool...it was great to stand right under the Queen's Pier sign and play a farewell type of show...One day when I have kids I will tell them that my band played both at the Star Ferry and at Queen's Pier...I'll tell them that at least I tried to stand up for the destruction of our history, when they ask me "Why didn't you all do something about it?!?! Now all we can do is go to a museum to see these things!!" I can respond by saying I did try...my band tried...

But at the end of the day...the HK government is adamant at not listening to people's thoughts, emotions and concerns.
