  • Comeback Kid in Hong Kong Apr 27! One of the greatest hardcore bands on this planet coming here!!!

    Sunday, Mar 30, 2008 11:28AM / Standard Entry

    Dude...

It's crazy to think about...I can't believe this band is coming to Hong Kong! I remember first hearing this band around 2003 when they put out their first album Turn it Around. I actually even remember showing this to the rest of the guys in KLC (when Kevin was in the band) right when we got off the plane in Taiwan where we were playing a couple shows. On the way from the airport to the venue we listened to the entire album like twice through.

To me, they're the ESSENCE of hardcore...fast, no-bullshit, straight to the point hardcore. And they've been touring the world non-stop for years now. This will be their first time in other Asian countries outside of Japan - so we're so excited that decided HK was going to be one of their stops (on this tour they're also playing in Malaysia and Indonesia).

It's going to be a great night at the ferry pier in Central. If you have time then please come on out for the show to hear some great hardcore, and the 3 opening local bands: King Ly Chee, Shepherds the Weak, and Embryo.

Presale tickets will be available soon!

Peace and thanks for reading this!

  • Awesome ass weekend...HK and GZ for King Ly Chee...

    Monday, Mar 24, 2008 10:06PM / Standard Entry

    Holy shit...

I needed an entire day and a half to recover from this crazy ass weekend full of the most awesome King Ly Chee shows possible...

It started with our Horse the Band show on Friday which went OFF INSANELY!!! Thanks to everyone that came out to it to make it such a fucking success. And when I mean success I mean S U C C E S S!!! We managed to pay off everyone, pay Horse the Band, and EVEN PAY THE OPENING BANDS!!! To us, as HK bands, we know how far a few hundred dollars can go so we are excited that we made enough to pay all our brothers in the opening bands something for coming out to support us and the show. It was great...

Then - as tired as hell as we were from not just playing the Horse the Band show, but actually organizing it and having to move all the equipment there and back, plus taking care of the nice dudes in the band...we had to get up early on Saturday morning to take a 2 hour train ride up to Guangzhou for a show.

We played in Guangzhou last August and it was one of the most passionate shows we had played in a long time. When we went up there last time the kids up there new all the words to songs that we hadn't even released. Just songs that were floating on our myspace or other music websites, they had them memorized and were singing them back. So even though we were exhausted beyond belief, we knew the show was going to be worth going up to rock out with the GZ posse of kids...

When we arrived there...we weren't disappointed...there were already tons of people there ready for us. Of course, we had just released our free EP so we couldn't wait to see how they were going to react to all those songs. Sure enough, as soon as we started playing, mics were everywhere, bodies were everywhere, kids literally were losing their shit...shoes, keys, clothes! hahahahahaha...

It was an incredible weekend...the perseverance of this band and the love and support that we get is what pushes this band and keeps us going no matter what...

Our next show is GOING TO BE ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS WE HAVE EVER PLAYED AND ORGANIZED!!! MARK MY WORDS!!!

APR 27 - the biggest hardcore band to ever come to Hong Kong: COMEBACK KID is going to come and destroy our shores...

Keep a look out for more information about this show...it's going to be the best thing to ever happen for punk/hardcore in HK. THAT'S FOR SURE!!!

    SEE YOU ALL AGAIN SOON!!!

Thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement...we take them all to heart!!!

    Peace,
    Riz

  • A few more days to the Nintendo-show! :-)

    Wednesday, Mar 19, 2008 1:38PM / Standard Entry

I'm sick as hell right now and it sucks being sick...it must've been something I ate man!!! I puked it all out totally undigested...hehehehehe...didn't expect to read that when you clicked on this message did ya!?

Anyway...the show of all shows is taking place this Friday at the Lamma Island Ferry Pier!!! It's going to be awesome...nintendo-core?!?!? WHAT THE HELL!?!! Can't wait to see this LIVE...I've heard from people all over the world that Horse the Band put on a CRAZY show...they have keyboards and samplers so I can't wait to see what types of sounds are going to be mixed into a metal/rock/hardcore background...

See you all at the show!!!

    Peace,
    Riz

PS: Since our singer quit, I have to learn all the Cantonese parts for a bunch of our songs...pretty damn nervous!! But I'm going to do it to show the world that this band ain't quitting EVER... :-) We will still have some friends who will help us sing a few of the other songs...

  • Another day...another year...another member...

    Thursday, Mar 13, 2008 6:01PM / Standard Entry

    How's it going?

Been awhile since I've updated this page and realized that I probably should type a little something here. The good thing about this site is that I don't have to worry about typing in two languages. I always have to do that on our website...the good thing about doing that is that I get to practice my Chinese writing skills. I always get my grammar wrong and plus I don't use Cantonese writing but Mandarin writing so my grammar is even more messed up. We get more hits from Mainland China then Hong Kong so it is definitely worth the extra effort I put in to writing and rewriting my blogs on our main website.

Anyway, as is the curse of the Ly Chee, another band member has bit the dust. It seemed about right. The 2 year mark was coming up and so, as history has proven over and over, it was about time for the stars to align again and give someone in this band some sort of feeling that the best thing for them to do with their lives is to quit KLC. This time, as shocking as it is for us in the band, and even more so for people who aren't in it, our sister G decided last Friday to leave the band.

So we're right back where we are right before she joined the band when our singer at the time decided to leave KLC after being with us for 6 years.

I'm almost tired of taking band photos. What's the point really? I think that's it for band photos.

Anyway...we have no idea when we'll start the recruiting process for a new singer. We have no idea where to start. There's been talk that maybe I should stop playing guitar and just sing. That would suck big time for a number of reasons:

    1. I've been playing guitar since I was 9...that thing is as much a part of me as the hands/fingers that I use to strum that thing...
    2. I'm too nuts on stage as it is with a guitar, imagine me without it? Fuck - I wouldn't last more than like 2 songs

We'll get through this...I know we will...it just blows that there never seems to be a consistent line-up, and I'm way to stubborn of a Scorpio to ever end this band. It won't end that's for sure.

We have 2 shows coming up...that's just the way we roll. Someone leaves the band? That ain't stopping us or holding us back from things that we've promised to do. We promised to play these shows and so we're going to uphold our promises to these organizers and play. Even if it means just one of us is going to get on stage and sing Karaoke versions of King Ly Chee songs - that's what's going to happen. Yes, it would suck.

Anyway, at these shows brothers from fellow Hong Kong bands have stepped up and volunteered their hearts and time.

    On Mar 21:
We're playing at the Lamma Island Ferry Pier #4 with HORSE THE BAND (from the US) and at this show our brothers Terence (Shepherds the Weak) and Tai (Embryo) will step up to help sing some of our songs. We will still play some songs just the 4 of us...old songs.

    On Mar 22:
We're going up to Guangzhou. The organizer for this show is so scared that we're going to cancel and I told her, no matter what happens, we WILL be there to play. So our good friend Benny (Mensheng) is going to take the time out of his life to actually come with us up to Guangzhou and play this show! That's crazy that he's willing to do that...

    So there you have it...

Another day, another year in the life of King Ly Chee with all it's troubles...

    Peace
    Riz
