Chinese Melody 1st September, 2009: Karen Mok’s Beat the Tambourine, Sing the Song Description:

Over the past few years, piracy within the music industry has become widespread, impacting album sales for artist. Recently, an artist thought of a new way to distribute her album in the fight against piracy by giving up the usual distribution method of selling CDs and using a digitalized way of distributing music such as selling music downloads through the internet or on mobile phones. The distribution of Karen Mok’s new album, Hui Wei, is planning to use this method. Today we’re going to introduce one of the songs on her new album, Beat the Tambourine, Sing the Song》.

  • Enjoying Beijing in the Refreshing Autumn Weather

I just completed my part in the film <Du La La Sheng Zhi Ji>. And to make the most of my spare time in Beijing, of course I can't let such beautiful, clear and bright days go to waste, so I made a trip to the Great Wall and Temple of Heaven, to thoroughly enjoy such a glorious location and weather.

The Great Wall is a magnificent structure that truly amazes me. Even though I have already come here a couple of times, however I really enjoy it each time! The most interesting thing is that each time there will be a different weather. I have been here during the very cold winter season, where the mountain tops were all covered with white misty snow. Although it was freezing but the scenery was really too beautiful ~ there was also one time where it was raining, and I had to be cautious walking on the stone steps! This time it was refreshing autumn weather. Walking on top of this great historical structure, it really made my mood become even more cheerful!

Of course I must bring along my Billy doll here to take photos as souvenir

On the second day I also made a trip to the Temple of Heaven. The weather that day was also extremely comfortable. Standing there looking up at the vast sky, the bustling and busy streets suddenly became very distant. It was really a breaking away from the racket kind of happy feeling! In the park I also saw many people dancing and flying kites, allowing me to personally experience the relaxing life of Beijing residents. There is a real warm feeling! If I have the chance I will definitely come back to visit other places in Beijing, then I will share with everyone again!

  • Holding Fan Meetings North and South of the Yangtze River Warming Up for the End of Year Concert
     |  )

    Monday, Aug 31, 2009 11:01AM / Standard Entry

Collaboration with China Mobile is already in full swing. The songs in <Hui Wei> have already hit a million downloads. I really am grateful for everyone's support.

In addition, it has been a while now that I have launched my fan meetings in various mainland cities. Following the Tianjin and Fuzhou stops, I also just went to Yulin city (Guangxi), Shenzhen and Guangzhou to meet more fans face to face. Sorry for making you guys wait so long.

Arriving in Guangxi to hold a fan meeting is also very meaningful. I was a guest at the 2002 Nanning Folksong Festival, and did an interpretation of the well known household song <Sing a Song While Beating a Hand-drum>. The reaction of the audience was extremely enthusiastic, and so gave me the idea to make a folk song cover album! Therefore, fans in Guangxi have a lot of credit for the birth of <Hui Wei>!

Do you also know? The MV for my classic song <Midsummer's Fruit> was also shot in Beihai, Guangxi.

Actually for more than ten years, my family and I have continuously donated to Longkou primary school in Yulin, Guangxi, to support students to study. Nine years ago I even went alone to visit the students. The students in primary school at that time are already grown up now, some are even preparing to enter university!

On the day of the fan meeting even the students were arranged to come and enjoy my performance.

I feel a particular warmth upon returning to Yulin. This time is even like seeing my own "children" grow up, I feel really comforted. I deeply wish that they will become capable individuals to give back to their hometown and country, then I will be extremely satisfied!

Also "Mok" is originally a very big surname in Guangxi. Seeing so many people with the Mok surname I feel a special closeness.

In September there are still two more fan meetings that will be held at Changsha and Zhuhai, just in time to start warming up for my concert at the end of the year. Afterwards I will devote my whole into preparing for my concert tour in December. The first two stops have already been decided to be held at Beijing and Shanghai. This time I will present to everyone my own well known songs all at once.
