Just my random thought of the day.
You'd think that as a lawyer I'd know this, but I wonder if the new anti-smoking legislation here in HK makes any distinction between smoking (as in putting a cigarette to your lips and puffing) and the simple act of lighting a cigarette indoors?
There is some relevance to my question. I saw some dailies from a photoshoot yesterday where the model was called upon to evoke a 1930s Shanghai look, and she was holding a cigarette rather rakishly in her hand. Problem was, of course, it wasn't lit as the shoot was taking place in a cafe. But the effect of the photo was lost, IMO. It's not quite the same when the model is holding what is basically a dead white stick. You need to ash and smoke for it to come alive.
Funny I'd say this since I don't smoke, but hey.
Smoking kills, kids!
And stay in school!
I think most pro photographers or even those who are broadly categorised as photo enthusiasts like myself will tell you that the photo they consider their most commercially successful or their standard "money shot" differs from the particular shot or type of photo they consider their personal fave.
This one is my personal fave of 2009 so far. It's not my most loved, judging from the critical response, but I do love it dearly. I'm an advocate of high black-and-white contrast, even though it's hardly flavour of the month. It's of the Japanese Jazz pianist Yuki Makita mid-performance at this year's FCC Jazz Festival. So I'm posting it here just for my own edification and ego massaging... ha ha.

I helped out with the event photography at a Private Shop viewing for VIP clients last week, at their Landmark store.
It's harder work than it looks, I can tell you!

NO SPOILERS HERE
I'm sure there is a particular AnD member at the top of the tree that everyone already knows is starring in this already, but yeah, it was good to see the first viewing of it at the HK Convention and Exhibition Centre last night. Some awesome nightscapes of Japan and a frantic plot.
Just make sure you're not too squeamish about blood.

All I can say is that there was some truly legendary ligging at the Adidas Originals party at Wong Chuk Hang last week, and yes I was guilty as charged. In the words of the cult UK comedy The Fast Show... "I was very, very drunk". Those blue drinks they were serving up by the gallon were deadly... far out.
Some black and white film pics here, plus crappy phone pics. And getting introduced to Stan Smith! My God! It's like meeting the mothership of all sneaker goodness!!!
Also, if there is anything cooler than the combination of a Mister Softee with Adidas Originals livery, I have yet to see it.
