A Detox Night デトックスなご飯

We had a macrobiotic dinner party tonight..... 今夜はまた久々に仲間で集まってマクロビパーティやりました。
Luckily, I got fresh burdocks.... 何とラッキーにも、ロンドンで生のゴボウが手に入ったんです。
We were making Kinpira... 金平ゴボウに挑戦です。
This is a unique Soba rolling sushi.... Have you tasted this food? それは「そば寿司」って言うんですけど、皆さん、聞いたことありますか？
frying gulten cutlets..... 車麩のカツを揚げています。
Today's menu was brown rice, miso soup, soba buckwheat rolling sushi, kinpira burdock, big yellow beans and gluten cutlet... 今日のメニューは、玄米ご飯、味噌汁、そば寿司、キンピラゴボウ、大粒お豆に、車麩のカツでした。
mixed dried fruits with agar... デザートは、ドライフルーツ入りの寒天で〆
Happy night.....but it's pouring rain tonight in London..... Have a nice weekend in your city 今日は少しデトックスできたかなという感じで、みなさんはハッピー顔ですが、今日の夜のロンドン、外は大雨で嫌な天気でした。皆さんの所は如何ですか？よい週末お過ごしくださいね :-)

Hello from a dark forest, where wild mushrooms grow... Filming of a samurai film "Spiral" is ongoing... きのこも生えるロンドンの森の山奥から、こんにちわ。うっすらと肌寒い日に「螺旋」の撮影は続行中です・・・
I'd like to explain about our "samural shoes" called "Waraji sandals" today. These type of shoes are maybe only worn by traditional Buddhist monks nowadays, but in the past it was the standard footwear for Japanese and is supposed to be suitable for travelling. さて、今回はこの撮影でも一日中履いている草鞋（わらじ）についてのお話です。よく時代劇の撮影とかで、この草鞋にはいつもお世話になるのですが、今回もその例外ではありません。
These waraji sandals don't cover the whole sole, so they are so uncomfortable to walk around in.....
でも、この草鞋は足の裏はこんな感じで、足の裏を全部カバーしてないので、非常に履き心地が悪いんです！よく昔の人はこんなもの履いていたなぁーと感心します。
However, I had to wear this waraji sandals on several occasions in the past for shootings. I noticed that there are some differences between the warajis I've worn. This type of waraji (below) was fairly comforatable and easy to walk in because it covers the whole sole....でも、数年前にやった時の撮影では、その草鞋はご覧のように足全体を靴みたいにカバーしてくれています。だから非常に歩き易かったのです。
and also, as you can see , the front rope don't squeeze the toes so much better than the real one, I guess. BTW sorry that I picked up the pictures where I am sleeping. I'm not always sleeping on set though.... 草鞋の前側もご覧のように、指の間で締め付けるようにはなっていません。（いつも寝ている写真ですみません（笑）ロケ中にいつも寝ているわけではないのですが、待ち時間が長いもので・・・）
Here are some pictures from the 1980's when I was acting in Tokyo with Saburo Tokitoh... These type of waraji sandals have no ropes on the back. It's very similar to modern beach sandals. So they are definitely unsuitable for travelling.... これは、僕がまだ東京に居る時に、時任三郎さんの「柳生十兵衛」に出演した時ですが、これまた違った草鞋です。普通の町人ようでしょうね。後ろがくくり付ける形になっていません。
It's been more than 20 years on since I acted in a jidaigeki - Japanese period drama last time in Japan. Time really flies ....こういう時代劇に出演したのは、この「柳生十兵衛」と「江戸中町奉行所」以来、今から20年以上も前ですから、時が過ぎるのも早い・・・
My story gets back to our present day location - the waraji sandals which this film production provides are like this (below). さて、話は戻って、今回の草鞋はこんな風。正しく旅用の草鞋ですよね。後ろでぐるぐる巻きつけます。
There are ropes to turn around the ankle and squeeze between the toes...そして、指と指の間もギュッと締め付けます。
Unfortunately the assistant director made the brand new waraji dirty for the shooting....撮影に向けて、新品の草鞋もご覧のように汚されてしまいました・・・
I'm was very cold on location this time because my legs are always out and also once you wear this waraji sandals, you can't wear trousers again....今回の撮影では、上の写真でわかるように足がもろ出ているので、とにかく下半身が寒い！この草鞋わらじのせいで、一度履いたら脱げないので、ロケ用に持ってきた特製のパッチも穿けない！
When I played a monk in a TV series in China, as you can see the picture above, I was wearing the gaiters around my legs so I could wear 2 layers of trousers underneath...but unfortunately in China you'll get harsher filming conditions than here like a below zero temperature every day...でも、このお坊さんのドラマの時は、この上の写真でもわかるように、衣装でゲートルのようなものを足に巻いているので、中は見えません。だから、下にはパッチを二重にはいて着膨れできました。足が大根状態でしょ（笑）でも、中国の撮影では、零下との闘いでしたけどね・・・
This time the blanket helps to cover my legs and the fire keeps me warm.....今回は、毛布を足に被せて暖を取るか、焚き火ですね。これは足の裏がジワーッと暖かいのです。
Naturally everybody gathers around the fire....みんなで集まれば、より暖かい！
On the second day of shooting, Akira brought a BBQ fire set for us, it helps alot....次の日は、あきらさんがBBQセットを持って来てくれました。これは役立つ！
Unfortunately it was raining heavily, so it was soaking wet inside the waraji sandals and we couldn't take them off so we just put our soles to the fire to dry a little bit...あいにく、雨の中での撮影でしたので、足の中がずぶ濡れのグチョグョ状態。
Somebody even dries his pants on the fire......焚き火の上で、濡れたパンツを乾かしている人もいます・・・
I was just thinking about a new story while I was waiting between the scenes. If I have a chance to write a script, it would be very interesting to describe people's life in the lower society of the Japanese Edo period based on "53 Stations of the Tokaido". I guess we can find out more about waraji sandals stories there...... :-) こちら、待ち時間に濡れた衣装も乾かしています・・・それにしても、ふと思ったのですが、昔の人にとっても、草鞋と焚き火は切っても切れない関係だったのかもしれません。「旅の途中に脱げない草鞋を焚き火の上で乾かす、東海道五十三次の世界」。今度はそんな町人たちのお話を描いてもいいかもしれませんね・・・ :-)

Samural film "Spiral" shooting in London 侍映画「螺旋」撮影の巻

Hi everyone! I had such a short trip to China and I'm still in a Beijing jet-lag. ...but I'm shooting a Samural flm "Spiral" in London right now....こちら、ロンドンに戻りました。また時差ぼけから治らぬまま、朝3時半起床の日々にて、侍映画「螺旋」の撮影に参加しています。この年になって、体を酷使しています（笑）

We are all up for the shooting!!
This unique shoe called a "Waraji sandal", is made from straw rope. I'll mention more about these shoes and our feet tomorrow... これはみなさんご存知の草鞋ですが、この靴のおかげで本当に大変な現場でした。これについては、明日またお伝えしますね・・・

Meanwhile, I'm practising the Japanese sword .... 僕はというと、野原で刀の抜き方を練習中。ああー、時代劇なんて随分前だったなあ・・・ちょっと後で、その当時の懐かしい写真でも発掘して、次回ご紹介しますね :-)

Alive not Dead in Beijing! 北京でAlive not Dead！

I met an Alive not Dead artist, Zhou Xiaofei in Beijing yesterday. I enjoyed conversation and yummy lunch with her very much. Her story from her new film was extremely intriguing!! 我去了"新光天地"一起吃点心了.
This area changes so dramatic, every time I come here, I found it's completely different.... now they built "Sanlitun Village".....然后, 我去了"三里屯Village"买东西了,

I met my actor friend, who acted the leading role in a Chinese TV series together, in the evening...晚上我跟一个好朋友石凉大哥见面了.
This restasurant bar is very interesting and unique. There are thousands of books here. It called Bookworm...我们去了非常有特色的"老书虫"酒吧餐厅.
Duck with caramelised balsamic sauce and chocolate crepes with Rum Raisin Ice Cream....very delicious!!
I`m waiting for a flight back to London at the Beijing airport now. The good wireless internet connection keeps me happy updating my blog here..... I have to board now. My next blog will be from London :-)
