  • Missing in action

I have been bad with blogging.  I had an idea that I might not be able to embrace technology...something about old dogs unable to learn new tricks.

To be honest, I don't even text. I attempted to text twice this year so far but both attempts were unsuccessful.

Picking up where I left off.

    Oct/Nov 2008:
Trip to New York, Boston and Arlington was great. Got to see old friends, re-visit good old NYC and I was also a bridesmaid. Yay.

Imagine, I never went to Serendipity when I was living in NY. This was the frozen hot chocolate. I forgot to take a picture of it before I sucked it down. It was good but I think there was powdered chocolate or cream involved.

My friend in Boston is a great chef. These are homemade chocolate cupcakes for Halloween.

Didn't AnD also have a school theme for New Year's? I picked up the wig at Dressew for $12! I love Dressew in Vancouver.

Vancouver had a snow storm in December and since I'm on a hill, I didn't dare drive my car. I was able to break out my snow boots I got in NY awhile ago (for that 2004/5 snow storm). It was fantastic because it seemed as if the world stood still.

    Feb, 2009 - Vegas:

I needed this break. The last time I was in Vegas was 2005 with my brother, sister, brother-in-law and my girlfriend (bride in Arlington).

I've forgotten how trashy it could be from one block to the next.

BLT at the Mirage: GREAT burgers and milkshakes. We fueled up there after clubbing.

Didn't like Body English at Hard Rock. Jet was pretty good at the Mirage. Christian Audigier (?) at Treasure Island was nice and cozy. Got there too early at Moon, Palms 52nd floor had a great view of Vegas, scary robot-looking bunny dealers at Playboy, hated the DJ and performance "art" at Rain.

Pool at the Mirage was nice.

How much water is wasted for this?

Hope to see you soon in Hong Kong (June 2009)!

  • Recent vacation - places and friends

    Saturday, Nov 29, 2008 12:29PM / Members only

I went to the wedding in San Diego in June...or was it April? Then in Oct/Nov, I went to another wedding in the east coast. This time, I was a bridesmaid.

I've been looking forward to my east coast romp for awhile. Naturally, since there are no direct flights to WA, I decided to go to New York...and since I'm there, why not do Boston?

Revisiting my old neighbourhood of 77th and Lex was sort of depressing. Even though I was prepared for changes in the neighbourhood, it hit me hard. I guess change is good and signals  evolution or what have you. I've talked to my brother about this before as we both experienced living in different countries due to our schooling and/or work. I guess it's a sense of displacement or not knowing where home is. Until we can have parallel lives at the same time, it's something we have to accept. Home is wherever you are or make of it. This is more common than ever nowadays.

I stayed with my friends and they ultimately remained the same...as I remembered them. In Boston, I stayed with my high school friend. Although we don't keep in constant contact, she's the type that when you're there, it's like as if nothing's or no time has passed. In Arlington, I stayed in a hotel (I insisted on a newly renovated room) and thank goodness it was not haunted despite being so freaking close to a mass grave site.

For Hallowe'en, my friend wanted to dress up as a school girl so the original 3 grew into a group of 5 Catholic school girls with a priest/father with naughty thoughts. It was kind of ironic as the 3 of us did go to an all girls school and wore uniforms. Let me tell you that having male friends are great buffers in club situations. It was fantastic to have a protective circle so to speak even though one 'friend' did get so drunk that he did most of the attempted groping and grinding.

If I remember correctly, Wendy, you wanted to know what happened with the proposal? I was tempted to see my ex. He proposed a total of 3 times and I'm only blogging about this because there is no way in h-ll that he would ever chance upon this website. I knew in my gut that he wasn't the one. That was one of the reasons I left New York and went back to school. Seriously, school was just an excuse. Don't worry about him though. I heard that he's already engaged. Considering that it's only been 10 months, it must be true love, right?

  • First blog in...10 months? TRUE LOVE

    Saturday, Nov 29, 2008 11:53AM / Members only

I'll just dive right in. My back, after 2 years is better. Yay! For the last 2 years, since my 2 snow/ice mishaps, I was experiencing what it must be like to be an old old lady with severe back problem. Doing simple tasks such as pulling on pants had to be done with carefully planned (and in slow) motion. So I suppose I have been out celebrating. Your age is determined by the flexibility of your spine or so I've heard.

No, I didn't recently experience true love but I was witness to it in San Diego. I was there as a close friend of the family...almost adopted as one of the daughters and an inpromptu photographer. I truly believe that it has to do with fate. I can work hard at it but in the end, if it happens, it happens. I'm not one to just settle for the sake of going through one of "life's rites of passage." I think for women, it's totally different. You get married and child-rearing and the household usually fall into the female's domain. Of course, let's not get into the nitty gritty about how it's all dependent on the partner. I know that and only wish that I am that lucky.

My last two "dating" experiences both ended in a proposal and a quick detour to generating offsprings. One even offered to purchase my eggs. Hmm. Would you want someone running around with your genes and imagine coming face to face with your child one day?

Well, with the breeding bit, I guess that's what happens when you get older and are still searching for that significant partner in crime. There's a need to spread your genes or leave something of yourself in the world. According to a book I read (I think it's called Sex Wars?), men usually experience a desire to leave a bit of themselves in the world sort of a way to explain WHY they were there.  What do you think, Bob? Do you have that yearning yet?

Back to true love...I experienced it when I was on vacation in Greece in 1997. I was in Mykonos for 2 weeks. That gets boring if you don't drink and we were able to hit all the beaches in 3 days. Anyways, I met a boy and there was something old and familiar about him. He was the son of a store owner (Naf Naf to be exact). My friend later told me that neither of us were able to look at each other when I paid for my purchases. And I was older, too and my logical side, of course, denounced it and yelled, "Cradle robber!" But it was something deeper and more encompassing like some old silly poem that we can't admit we like but cling to in private.

I'm going to take Patrick's advice and not blog all at once like a stream of consciousness but break it up into a series of digestible bites. Next.

  • Craft show

    Monday, Apr 21, 2008 1:27PM / Members only

It's been a long time but I've been working towards my first craft show...My last one doesn't count b/c it was last minute and a few friends and I made some hand puppets. I can't believe that we pulled that off...

This one will be in Vancouver, May 4th (Sunday)...gotcraft.ca

My friend applied for a spot and asked whether I wanted to share the table and I said yes. That was 2 months ago. Meanwhile, I've been planning for 2 weddings. Not mine.

I will have some fabric bags, small pieces and whatever I can put together in the last 2 weeks. I spent too much time figuring out the patterns and doing so much unnecessary hand sewing. I enjoying doing the little details but seems unreasonable to charge money for all that work. Kind of tricky how to price things for a craft show.

So I'll check in with you guys sometime later in the week! Miss ya!

Craft show sounds great, it must be happening now. I hope you have time to blog about it.

I arrived in Korea yesterday, having a few "oh shit what have I done" moments but it will all be good. Meet the School Board tomorrow - starting to get nervous about it.
