  • Craft show

    Monday, Apr 21, 2008 1:27PM / Members only

It's been a long time but I've been working towards my first craft show...My last one doesn't count b/c it was last minute and a few friends and I made some hand puppets. I can't believe that we pulled that off...

This one will be in Vancouver, May 4th (Sunday)...gotcraft.ca

My friend applied for a spot and asked whether I wanted to share the table and I said yes. That was 2 months ago. Meanwhile, I've been planning for 2 weddings. Not mine.

I will have some fabric bags, small pieces and whatever I can put together in the last 2 weeks. I spent too much time figuring out the patterns and doing so much unnecessary hand sewing. I enjoying doing the little details but seems unreasonable to charge money for all that work. Kind of tricky how to price things for a craft show.

So I'll check in with you guys sometime later in the week! Miss ya!

It's been awhile. Just got caught up with the feeds...while my pictures download.

Jaine, glad to hear that your Dad is doing okay and congrats to your sister. I love how your hair is growing back. I wish that I have the courage to shave my hair off...it's sooo long now and I'm almost at target length.

It was hard to read Wendy's blog in red print. Ah, New York must have been nice during the holidays. Oh, I didn't quite reply to the proposal and that was a reply in itself, no? I talked with my ex and I'd thought we understood that we weren't meant for each other and later, he asked me to consider moving back to NYC. Wasn't he listening? So nothing exciting in that department.

I spent half the time in HK so that I could see my brother on the weekends and half the time in Singapore.

HK: Well, I think I did blog about that since my laptop was working in HK. It was great to hang out with him and during my last weekend, he wanted to go see this band but b/c of a cell phone switcheroo, Terrance couldn't get a hold of him regarding the tickets. But in the end, we got to go. There was a mix up with the tickets (wrong dates) but it was great b/c we ended up hanging out on the side lines. Then I guess we got in the way (not me - I was standing quietly by the back, enjoying the music) b/c soon we were asked to go back to the front. Afterwards, 5 of us rushed back over to HK b/c Pat's guests were arriving for his b-day party. Met a bunch of artists but I ended up dancing with some old friends for most of the night. It's so hard to talk in clubs, you know?

Before I left, I saw those lion puppets at a friend's house and decided that I must get a couple for Vancouver.

So...in Singapore, I looked for them. We decided to hit Chinatown before the CNY festivities officially started. Good thing too b/c it was already crowded.

Oh first, my sister, brother in law and I went on a cruise to Penang and Phuket. Asian cruises, unfortunately this one anyways, are that organized. We had fun though. Because of the disorganization of the Penang excursion, we decided to do our own thing in Phuket. We rented a tut-tut and drove around to see monkeys, waterfalls, elephants and beaches. I loved petting and feeding the elephants. While my brother in law was feeding his elephant, it peed. It was like a waterfall and we caught it on film.

In Singapore, we walked the dog in the morning and I confessed that I decided to sleep in a few times. I discovered Mustafa, a shopping complex in Little India that is open 24 hours! I loved Little India and checking out the intricate 24 K gold jewelry. I want to be decked out like an Indian bride!

My brother in law treated my sister to a spa day for her birthday. I got in on the action too. It was a couple's package. He didn't want to get a facial and asked me to accompany my sister. With pleasure. The Vichy shower was amazing. Funnily enough, my sister and I (pure Canadians) had the same thought: "It feels so good but what a waste of water...."

I think we were both snoring when we were getting our facials and pedicures. I was like putty, I tell you. PUTTY.

My sister took me to see this lady who does this biotenser thing. She uses a rod that reacts to my body's vibrations or something. Pretty interesting.

Also went to see another lady who realigned my energy. I could feel my body tingling all over.

I didn't listen to my sister regarding the weather. I'd thought, it can't be worst than a NYC summer. But I forgot. I melted a lot but it was nice. We stayed in a pretty central area so we could walk to the Botanical Garden, down Orchard, etc.

Maybe I should blog separately. It's like talking to someone except the other person never stops to breathe and you can't get a word in edgewise.

  • Vacationing in Hong Kong

Thanks to all who dropped me a line despite the fact that I haven't logged in for awhile. I've been in HK and hanging out with my brother has been great. Every time I attempt to go online or get around to AnD, my battery life of my laptop has drained to 10 minutes...So today I finally charged my battery before coming on.

Happy 2008! I think I must have gotten younger because I've been able to thrive on 5-hour sleep!
Honestly, I'd thought that I would have a lot of free (boring) time in HK allowing me to work on my thesis revisions. I've been here since Dec 29 and I have yet to open my Word document! And I'm not in a hurry to do so.

You can check my brother Bob Shi's page as he highlighted what we've been doing.

It's been great to meet all the artists and I can't even keep up with all the names. We went to the Fringe Club and Times Square...on Sunday to see the big band concert. I was zoning out but enjoying the music on the sidelines. Most of the artists do look like their pictures but I was surprised at how tiny most girls are in Hong Kong. Or I've forgotten that I was brought up on hearty foods in the West.

I played Wii for the first time and it was fun. I sucked at the optical stuff which Berton and my brother rubbed in my face a couple of times. Yes, I'm an artist but I suck at the optical trickery. Aha, I'm more analytical, okay!  I did enjoy the olympic games. Yes, the swimming event was SOOO hard. My player was so slow that for most of the time, he was out of the picture. I was so confused as to what to do. I was good at jumping only. My team mates abandoned me half way through the event so after my arms were sore from swimming, I had to fence with Steven, of all people. He's an expert, in case you don't know. I liked the ping pong but can't tell you how or what I did to get the ball over...I was clicking, moving and swinging all at once.

Wow, I dedicated 1 whole paragraph to Wii.

I really really enjoyed the jazz at Captain's Bar. Unfortunately, we arrived late. Gigi, from Toronto is way cute and I love bossa nova. It was so random but I ran into an ex-student from art school from more than 10 years ago. He was also visiting and lives in LA (where we met at school). We never took any classes together but he was around. We made plans to meet at a jazz place tomorrow night somewhere in Central. I don't know my way around but I'm not afraid to ask people.

Last night, an ex called an proposed. Funny how the new year can propel people to do things that they feel they need to do. It felt more like a business deal than something romantic. Being a female, I think we have more pressure to settle down as we get older. I've been told that I have a youngish looking face so I can "fool" people, according to my dad. But I'm not out there to fool people. My grey hair gives it away. And although I can live on 5 hours of sleep, my double eye bags remind me that I am aging like everyone else. I'm interested to know what your thoughts are regarding marriage and proposals, etc.

Yesterday, I went to see this "doctor" who can diagnose your problem by looking at your knees. I slipped a year ago and haven't recovered fully. Anyhoo, he was able to tell that I suffer from neck and lower back pain...he did something to my knee caps and the nerves around that area. It was very brief but intense pain. For 3 months, I cannot do any exercise, extend my legs on the sofa, kneel, rotate my hips, etc. I was really surprised at how often I "kick" as I put on/take off my jeans. And over the course of 2 days, I tried on 25 pairs of jeans. And surprisingly, I don't feel the usual strain on my lower back as I bend over to pull up the jeans. The guys in Yuen Long most of the week and the rest of the time, he's somewhere in China. I'll post his number some time later. I can't do yoga either. So when I go to the beach later, I can only float! Didn't foresee that!

Craft show sounds great, it must be happening now. I hope you have time to blog about it.

I arrived in Korea yesterday, having a few "oh shit what have I done" moments but it will all be good. Meet the School Board tomorrow - starting to get nervous about it.
