went to the Nishiki market (錦市場) etc

I want to write about Shijo and Sanjo area and Kyoto station this time.

Shijo(四条) and Sanjo(三条) area are popular place for many of young people who lives in Kyoto. They are able to enjoy around here, for example watch some movies, buy things, and sing karaoke, and have a meal...because there are lots of shops including restaurants and department stores etc.

The Nishiki tenmangu (錦天満宮) is in Shin-kyogoku street (新京極通). nishiki tenmangu(錦天満宮)

torii gate of nishiki tenmangu (錦天満宮の鳥居)

This torii gate is quite famous in Kyoto, because a part of torii gate protrude into part of the wall of two buildings! The Nishiki market is in front of the torii gate of nishiki tenmangu.

Well,Nishiki market is one block north of Shijo Street (四条通) west of Gion (祇園),and the closest subway station is Shijo (四条).

the Nishiki market (錦市場)

The Nishiki market is known as a famous marketplace in Kyoto, and the market is called "Kyoto's Kitchen".This market is lined with many shops selling fish, meat, dried goods, side dishes, snacks, yuba (bean curd skin) and Kyoto vegetables, food choppers etc![](/attachments/2008/03/2578_200803292354142.thumb.jpg)They sell various kinds of fresh vegetables![](/attachments/2008/03/2578_200803292354144.thumb.jpg) (pickled vegetables / 漬物)I love pickled vegetables so much (except narazuke). The pickles  vegetables are segmented by how to produce, such as narazuke (cucumbers and eggplants seasoned in sake-lees),nukazuke (vegetables pickled in rice-bran paste) and others. You can sample various kinds of pickled vegetables at some dealer in pickles! So you will be able to buy it after you see how those pickles tastes.

I noticed there is a line in front of the shop...

I heard this shop selling some of soymilk products is especially popular now.

I got soymilk doughnuts though I don't like doughnut very much.It was so delicious!! I walked several blocks to Kyoto Station after I see some shops in the Nishiki market.

I passed the Higashi-hongwanji temple( 東本願寺).

I had never made my way on foot from Shijo to Kyoto Station. So I thought that there are so many places in Kyoto that I've never been.

When I looked up Kyoto tower,I felt like I had to take a picture because it was very beautiful sky color...hehe Oh...Sorry I wasn't able to take the clear picture!

In Kyoto Station, there is the facility called "Tezuka Osamu world (手塚治虫ワールド)".The shop sells many of character goods which are from Osamu Tezuka's comics.Admission fee is required to enter the theater etc,but admission to the shop is free.If you like the characters which are from Osamu Tezuka's comics, for example,Black Jack and Astro Boy (Mighty Atom) and Jungle Taitei (Jungle Emperor) etc, this shop is worth visiting(maybe).

To my surprise, I heard they sells also the operating gowns in this shop(that is the same type of operating gowns which Black Jack wears in comics)!!! Though of course I didn't buy it. After this I dropped by a couple of book stores, and then went home...

An interesting blog that makes me want to go back there once more. You walked from Shijo to Kyoto Station? that's already a pretty long walk, no? I did it once too but don't remember how long it took me.
